Ovechkin Milestone Thread - Countdown to 894

Does he really generate more SOG by himself or is it in part because of his high number of offensive zone starts and PP TOI?

What you say was true in his peak years but less so since then but we are going to agree to disagree here.

Ovechkin ties Bure for most ENGs in a season. Now of course in 2014 when people were still trying to argue Bure >>> Ovechkin using that 1999-2000 season as ammo, it was fine to get to 59 goals with 9 empty nets.

Doubt the narrative will be the same here.

Regardless, Ovechkin now has the 2nd most goals ever by a player 36 or older. 4 more goals in 9 games to beat Selanne for most ever at his age.

Jesus dude. Look at a heat map and figure it out for yourself, stop being the “I’m just asking questions” guy.

It is clear that for all the ways you try to dress it up and act like you aren’t, you’re “only asking questions” that devalue the accomplishment. Never once seen you like “yeah shots drive offense and getting dangerous shots off is a talent you need, nobody makes their shot more dangerous than he does”

121 goals the way he's going will be accomplished in 3, maximum 4 seasons and this is assuming he declines to ~30 ish goals.

He's going to break it and have a chance to end up with 900-925+ goals. Far away that no player can realistically reach it unless there are major rule changes to increase goal scoring.

So @Big Phil are you ready to admit that Ovechkin will break Gretzky's goal record yet? Only 120 goals to go with at least 4 years of Ovechkin hockey left. That's only 30 goals per season to break the record, minus what Ovechkin will score in the remaining games this season...

You might want to keep an eye on Mattthews, he has a higher goal scoring floor than Ovechkin and he's scoring at a level right now that Ovechkin never reached...

I love Matthews and I think his "peak goal scoring output" will be higher than Ovechkin's. He will probably score 60+ goals again. I just don't think he's going to be doing what Ovechkin is doing at ages 34,35,36 etc. It's going to be incredibly tough and Matthews doesn't have the same ability to score PP goals either.

I see Matthews topping out at around 750 goals. Which is still ridiculous.

The one Gretzky record he can break is #1 in even strength goals which is like ~600 goals. He's already got 200. If he plays another 15 years, he'll have that.

Dude, don't sell Matthews short. I was one of the few saying that Ovechkin would break Gretzky's goal record here back in 2013 and even had a few threads about it taken down. And look were we are at now... Matthews has a very special way of scoring goals. It's like the puck just comes to him. He hardly ever has to work in order to score. It looks so effortless when Matthews scores. That will most likely mean that Matthews ages much better than your average hockey player. Plus he spends a lot of time in Sedona Arizona with all those meditating health freaks, so I wouldn't be shocked if Matthews plays hockey well into his 40s just like Ovechkin might do...

Yeah I threw the remote when he scored that goal though. I know the record is important to him and the organization though so I knew he'd get at least one shot at the empty net. When the net was empty I knew he'd be the only Cap to take the shot. No other Capital would get a chance at a freebie, those are all going to Ovi at this point. There is one goal and one goal in mind lol.

Why do you care if he scores an ENG? Gretzky is No.1 all time.
