Ovie ties Luc Robitaille for 22nd all time in points scored with 1394.

Ovie is also tied with Robitaille for most points all time among LWs.

Ovie also now has 100 more goals than any other LW. (Robitaille had 668)

Not to mention that Ovie adds to his PP goal record with his 280th career PPG.

Ovie just keeps chugging along. 😁
I have zero issue admitting I'm a spoiled CAPS fan in this regard

Ovechkin is now potentially as little as one game away from becoming the NHL's all-time leader in powerplay ice time (going back to 1997-98, when it was first tracked):

(EDIT - he's also up to 5,997 shots. So, next game, he could also become only the 2nd player in NHL history to reach 6,000 shots on goal).

If Ovechkin eventually will break Gretzky's goal scoring record, he can have a shot at top 5 all-time.

Orr, Gretzky, Lemieux, Howe, Fetisov are in my current top five (skaters only).

What's interesting, it seems that the majority now agreed that Ovechkin should be ranked above Crosby.

You could make a case for Ovechkin being top five right now.

I don’t think that last part is true. Some segment of hockey fans will always have preference for centers over wingers, some will point to team and international accomplishments, some prefer Crosby’s cerebral style of play, some people don’t actually watch Ovechkin and still think he doesn’t play defense or only scores goals by standing in one spot on the PP, etc.

I honestly don’t care about the comparisons any more. Both of them came into the NHL with unrealistic expectations and both somehow surpassed them. I’m just enjoying the ride at this point.

That argument will never be settled either way and I'm ok with that.

What I do think will happen is as the years pass and people who weren't here to see them play discuss the topic the majority of them will choose Ovechkin due to hardware and records. Crosby should still end up with more points overall but Ovechkin has currently more than 50% more goals than any other player since entering the league. That has a bit of a wow factor to it.

Alex Ovechkin has some interesting stats. He is already the all time power play goal scorer, will probably will be the all time leader in shots, goal scorer and maybe in hits. Alex has won a Stanley Cup as well.

However, I will take Sidney Crosby for me personally. A multiple Stanley Cup Winner, he has a better career average points per game, better shooting percentage and being a center has more responsibilities defensively and on the face offs where he is over 50% for this career. I would be interested to see who is better in terms of gaining zone entry and on the rush as I think Crosby is better than Ovechkin in both departments. I just think Crosby does more things to win games than Ovechkin

Interestingly both are terrible that they both have more giveaways than takeaways.

Really? A play making center leads in these categories? Who would have guessed. :)
All of these things you're citing will fall into the very point I was making. The stat hounds may see all of those things but the average fan will not. They'll only see shot record, hits, PPG record, at least top 3 in goals and myriad of other goal scoring records and at least at the moment more personal trophies. I'm not saying it's fair. I'm saying that's the way it will be.

Watch Ovi closely for an entire game. Then watch Crosby for an entire game. It's not even close. 11 out of 10 people will prefer Crosby.

I admire both players a lot and I am pro Ovechkin the one timer shot on the power play is like a Kareem Abdul Jabaar sky hook shot it's legendary. However, I just prefer Sidney Crosby all around game more than Ovechkin.

Ovechkin scores more goals but Crosby all around playmaking/puck carrying ability and the ability to convert over 50% of his face offs leads to more scoring chances. I think Crosby is a better defensive player as well. I just admire Crosby's game more.
