Gretzky had his own advantages in the era he playedHow many Ovechkin score in 3on3 or 4on4 overtime though? I imagine it's significant number. Gretzky never had that advantage.

Also, goals overturned by replay is something Gretzky never dealt with.Gretzky had his own advantages in the era he played
It would make a huge difference. Ovechkin has lost a lot of his legs, that’s no secret, but he’s a natural goal scorer, and natural goal scorers find spaces to set up a shot. Ovechkin doesn’t have that anymore. I love Dylan Strome and think he’s a very good player, but I think he excels at shooting over passing. Ovechkin used to be able to do it all himself, he was an absolute freak to watch every night. But now he’s almost 40, he can’t do that anymore, but if the Caps can find a great playmaker to pair with him I think it would make a huge difference. The problem is giving up assets to get one.I don't care if Ovi limps into getting the record. I just want to see him do it. They need to find him a playmaker. Not having Backstrom has hurt him a lot this season.
Each generation of hockey has its advantages and disadvantages. Also, goals overturned by replay is something Gretzky never dealt with.
Didnt Gretz lead his team in points during his very last season?Yep not to diminish Gretzky end of career or anything. Ovechkin isn't in the Art Ross race, but he's first on his team for pts still, and he's had career lows before. Bounced right back every time.
Now, I dont expect a 39 years old to bounce back to being a Rocket threat, but I can definitely see him bounce back to a 30-40 goals area.
Fwiw, I dont think Ovechkin hangs around too many years if he can do his usual bounce back. Just doesnt seem in character for him to hang around ala Joe Thornton. No offense intended to Thornton, but he was definitely way more toast by the end than Ovechkin is showing even in this disapointing season
No, it is 3.How many have Ovechkin's goals have been empty net this season? 5?6?
Edit: Checked and it's 4 now.
Crosby scores plenty of goals with a goalie in net. Ovechkin, not so much. No, it is 3.
You probably checked Crosby stats by mistake

Yeah, Edmonton pretty much created the incidental minors are played 5-on-5 rule.Gretzky had his own advantages in the era he played

Strome has always had a great shot. Wish he used it a lot more when he was in Chicago. He hasn’t had Backstrom for a while, they haven’t extensive playing time together in years.
The problem is that the only playmaking center left on the team is Strome, who is also asked to do a lot of the goal scoring himself.
Ovechkin should have asterisk when he breaks the record. Advantage of playing in overtime.Have you watched a game from the 1980s? It might as well have been 3x3 or 4x4.
The time and space players had in the 80s was insane.
You saying this in the Ovi “800 goals and beyond” thread is hilariousCrosby scores plenty of goals with a goalie in net. Ovechkin, not so much.
Ovechkin should have asterisk when he breaks the record. Advantage of playing in overtime.
Tack another 50 on Gretzky record if he had 3 on 3
I was responding to the post.Whats your point? Ovechkin is leading his team in pts right now
At first I thought that you were serious, but now it’s obvious that you are trollingOvechkin should have asterisk when he breaks the record. Advantage of playing in overtime.

can't tell if serious.
Meh, if we’re handing out asterisks, how about one for goalies that never went down on their knees?Ovechkin should have asterisk when he breaks the record. Advantage of playing in overtime.
