I was responding to the post.
Try keep up

You as well, there was no question in my post. I was responding to another comment about Gretzky being very productive until late in his career. Both he and Ovechkin are.

My original point being, the idea that Ovechkin is just hanging around for the record is ludicrous. Hes still a very good NHL player.

Why all the negativity and downplaying of Ovechkin achievements? I swear, Ovi closing in on Gretzky is too much for some people to handle.

I think its difficult to see your idol growing up get passed by the newer generation. My dad is the same, if I bring up the topic the immediate answer is "but Ovechkin isnt half the player Gretzky was".

Yeah, I can imagine. But hes gonna beat an insane record everyone thought was near impossible to beat. 10-15 years ago you looked at Ovechkin's stats and you knew he had to keep winning rockets and have 50 goals seasons his whole career to have a chance at it.

To be this close in this few games is already stuff of legends.

I'm serious. You never seen Gretzky play did you?
I have. Or I seen, using your grammatical structure. :) In fact, I strongly believe that Gretsky’s record should have an asterisk — his 894 should be counted as 1000 goals since he never got a chance to play in 3 on 3 or 4 on 4 OTs.

Use to set up in his office. At 3 on 3 he would have pumped in many more. But sounds like you strong on 1000. However, I would go 943.

943 won’t cut it. 1000 is a beautiful number. I’ll write a petition to Bettman to include the asterisk at once.

Then why wasn't Gretzky taken out? B/c he had the luxury of bodyguards.

What if Gretz wasn't protected? What if he had to fight his own battles like Ovechkin?

Is this not an advantage Gretzky had that most others didn't?

That's the elephant in the room. The biggest asterisk ever, it's so big that everyone thinking it's a backdrop.
