2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

So now with 5 games remaining I ran my 6th attempt on Tanjathon NHL Draft Simulator of the Final 10 game stretch just before posting this result :

Hawks Again 3rd...

The first 5 went this way:

3 tines 3rd
1 tiine 4th
1 tine (the 5th attempt) was #1..

So so far it looks like Hawks likely droppingv1 spit to 3rd pick overall as the Most probable resukt to expect.

So far staying in place at #2 is least likely result.

Unless we get luck No Scaefervor Misa for us seems in the cards...so again we Really must determine that #3or worst case #4 target.

O woukd bet on the certainty but lower celing of Desnoyers or the runway and even greater upside of Jake O'Brien ..

I have a feeling KD goes smallish again with Hagebs who I see as tge wrong fit and a guy who may already have plateued.

My view: #3 O'Brien #4Desnoyers

The scout rankings not having O'Brien this hogh are going to look silly as gecwill dominate in a higher 1C role next season in Brantford....the skating has improved to at least nhl average speed but not ekiteclikecMisa is...Though his edgewood is good..hisxpace is not there Except when he firechecks which is very good..2 way pkayer..leadership..h gh % shooter though a low volume shooter...hands terrific, playmaking elite ekite, vision ekite, faveoffs 50%+ but coukd get better as hecadds strength to 6'2+ frame..speed coukdvimorove as he gets more powerful by adding mass and maturing into his body once he gets to pro weight...Hevis not goibgvto be a rush scorer..Will slow the pace down and deceive like Kane did..but hevis a better 2 way pkayer..A comp was Robert Thomas but hevis bigger and will get heavier to max pro wight with more time and development..bestvoassr I tge draft..you want hom to shoot more..but Joe Thornton made a great career of pass first mentality and hecwas not a speed merchant eitger..He too had great hands.. great pkaymaking/passing skills..

I just think O'Brien is too under-rated especially given his younger status abd long runway to fill out his 6'2+ frame mid-June birth date and , his only 2C role at 5x5 this season (he dis not cebter Lardis at 5x5.most of thevtine this season.. but only played with Lrdis on the Pp ...which he helped make it a lethal PP.
Despite his lanky frame at this point hecis very goidcforeckibg wining board battles and making scoring chance plays off that foregoing dmen on the backend side boards..

a 98 point seasonin his draft year is good ..but thisvis nit even the filled out pkayer he will getvto..So more upside is is there.whereas sinevof the older guys in the draft lije Hagens and Martone may have plateued..

O think the scouts rank O'Brien to lowe..yes you want higher volunecshoitibg.....but ciubteribgvthiscisciscgoalbscoring efficiency on lower shot totals..

I repeat ...so many of the scouting reports alk agree hevis the best most creative playmaker i the draft..I think the Hawks coukd use that type of elite skill.

If you only emphasize ekitecsoeed but tge athletic speed is matched with only average vision or average hockey IQ...you only hit a great athlete but maybe an average or kinitedvpoibtscproducer..If you take an average skater with eklte vision,ekitevoasdibg/pkaynakibgvskill and a 2 way game you get a very good hockey pkayer you want to help your team score.

I think O'Brien is too under-rankex on too many scoutibg lists ..cannot ubderstand why.

Plus he already has chemistry with Vanacker..

If Vanacker has been healthy to start the season then I woukd bet O'Brien woukdchave put up 20-39 more points this season and be up near Misa...but as a 2C.
I woukdvbetvon that ru way and upside for this kid.

Yes ..you want to see hom shoot more because he does have a great shot but often passes up hiscown shot opportunities to attemptcset-ups ...But when you are such a great passer itvis what it is..

You wonder if a Vanacker OBrien Lardis line coukd do i the pros...Or you wibder what he coukd do setting up Bedard so tgat Bedard actualky gets off more Geberational shot chances in better scoribg position.

There is vmorevuoside yet with O'Brien ...If we get luckyandvget #1or#2 tgen of course KD takesxScaefer at #1or Misa at #2..OnlyvMisa might be in thecHawjsckibeup nextcseadon...Schaefer too young to rush eve though he is that special franchise #1D..
O'Brien is not pro ready just turning 18 mid-June ...needs tinevto fill out and add mass to frame (sane for Drsnoyers)...

So no immediate help in sight from this draft to make the roster next season..unless we land Misa who coukd be bored with 4th seadoni the OHL..of he goes back to Jr.,I think Saginaw might trade him..since they lokeky lose Parekh who I expect will be with CGY next season..

legitimately one of the dumbest guys to ever do it

50, 50, 50 you do realize I hope that the results of these simulations are potentially effected by the mindset of the person using them. You being one of let's say a more sceptical demeanour will get the results you're expecting. Good thing you're not the one setting the balls in motion!
Krishnamurti used to say ... " the observer is the observed " " The teacher is the taught "
or ... the simulator is the simulated! :DD

Maybe add Reichel :D
Exactly an answer that legit…not just negativity…what else would it take?

Three years is Crosby and Bedard? I’ve been saying I hope the Hawks get John Tavares, but Crosby would be awesome…Hawks have the assets…
Okay so how about this?

Crosby and NYRs 1st 2025

for

Reichel, Kurashev, Korchinski CHIs 1st 2025, TORs 1st 2025, FLAs 1st 2026

Well?

crosby would have to play to 50 to make this worth it

I dont know how to post Twitter. byron bader had frondell as 89% star 99% NHL and closet comp was barkov. hagens is to small and we have way to much of that and martone is wing. We need a center that is 6-1 and 200 lbs. I think its pretty clear that Bedard is more likely at 80-90 pt winger then center. which is ok. he is more Kane then Teows and your # 1 center needs to play D. it feels like a conbo of his size and skating and Def effort is not a true #1 d on a team that wants to go deep.

Bader sucks and so does his model.

If Frondell was Barkov he’d go 1st overall.

Barkov is a cornerstone. We could use one or two of those. The only one of those
that is being touted as such at this point is Schaefer. I hope we could get Misa and he
becomes one, as I think the Hawks should draft a forward this time out.

Barkov himself didn't even go 1st overall...that said has Doneghey even tapped into the european leagues for any picks? He seems to like the CHL and current/future college players thus far

Had to go back and check that draft out... Yes...big Mac at one was a great choice.

I bet he listens Hawks scouting staff and Niklas Blomgren from Sweden is their European head amateur scout .

Last year was the first time CHI didn't pick multiple players out of Europe/Russia in a draft since Doneghey took over.

They've taken Svensson, Kantserov, Felcman, Oscarsson, Peltonen, Juntorp and Tohila out of European/Russian leagues and Levshunov, Misiak, Gajan and Marcel as Europeans playing in North America.

There's no reason to think they have an aversion to Europeans.

San Jose lost in OT. We’re up 3 points on them and we each have 4 games left. Not likely we pass them

My view: #3 O'Brien #4Desnoyers

Fiddy, I like O'Brien a lot. Saw him play 30-40 times this season. He still plays young making mistakes that should be effectively cleaned up with another season in a prominent role with Brantford.

But - #4 in the draft is, in my opinion, a little too high for him. Top-10? Definitely. But #4 - no.

I think there is a clear cut 1/2 - Schaefer and Misa. Then a clear cut #3 - Hagens. Then a clear cut #4 - Martone. Then a group that contains Desnoyers, Frondell, Eklund, O'Brien, and then the rest.

I would take Martone over Hagens because the Hawks shouldn't take another sub-6' guy, even though Hagens is the superior player. Therefore if the Hawks end up with #4 and Schaefer, Misa and Martone are gone - I try to trade the pick back into the 5-10 group and take one of the players in the next tier. The thought process is Hagens will be coveted by other teams liking his skill but not concerned with his size.
