Scored three points, closing on 17th all-time in career points, one point behind now.
Target is moving though, that pesky kid. :sarcasm:
The Finnish Flash is six points away anyway. :)

So many assmad people in here* about 802 being an empty-netter.

If 801 was an empty-netter, and 802 was on a goalie, I guarantee at least 70% of the complaints in here wouldn't exist.

"Yeah he's scored 800 goals but #802 was a freebie!!!"

*By here, I'm referring moreso to the GDT, not so much this thread.

I apologize for bringing my comment to this thread, I'm an idiot on that one for sure. Will never like empty netters but I get the reactions, this thread has had people crapping on OV for a while, and it isn't the right place for that, I certainly don't wanna be another one of those guys lol

Remarkable to watch but sad to think he'll be gone in a few seasons. These new stars just aren't the same.
As long as they're alive, that's good enough for me.

The game has unfortunately lost many stars (Bossy, Lafleur, Hawerchuk, Salming) in recent years at a young age, and those are definitely painful losses to the game.

I'd love for guys like Crosby and OV to stick around post-NHL in management/coaching/ambassador positions. But yeah, they'll be missed once retired. Luckily though we have footage of all their games, so we can always look back and marvel at their incredible careers.

A Toronto Maple Leafs fan in a bar recently told me that "Auston Matthews is coming for Ovechkin's throne".
As a Caps fan, I hope so. I would love to see someone eventually pass OV. Records are made to be broken not preserved. If that happens then it will mean I’ve witnessed the entire career of two of the best goal scorers of all time.

Can't even be mad at that empty netter. It was a shot few could have made.

Already lost too much time to injury. Plus most goal scorers slow down near 30 years old, Ovechkin is just a freak.

Scoring will likely to continue to climb though so who knows?

that he clearly didn't want. kuznetsov denied his assist.

Its pretty easy to be an accountant with OV, the answer is always 50.

How many goals did OV score last year? 50
How many goals in his last 82 games? 50
Whats the pace of current season? 22/36*82 = 50
Whats the pace over last 3 seasons? 96/158*82 = 50
Whats the pace over last 10 seasons? 431/709*82 = 50
Whats the career pace? 802/1310*82 = 50

I can easily see the Rocket being renamed for Ovi but it would probably be several decades after he retired. Maybe even not until after he dies.

This would make absolutely no sense. Whatsoever. They just created the trophy less than 30 years back, it was named after one of the most iconic (and greatest) goal-scorers ever and it was donated by the team the player played his entire career with.

It would absolutely shock me if they rename the trophy after Ovechkin.

plus which Rocket sounds too cool.
Ovechkin is not the best sounding name in both languages.

PS. did you know Wayne has a Lou Kaplan Trophy (from WHA)?
