empty net goal for passing Howe ugh...

tying goal was a great shot but not the way I'd want to pass for sure

great tribute though love Mark Howe

I mean he passed up a clear chance at it to give it to Kuzy who proceeded to say “forget that” and give it right back to him. And then he scored a no-look facing his own net from 40 feet. As ENGs goal, that was a beaut.

District of Champions
Passing legend Gordie Howe with goal #802, Alex Ovechkin is Evgeny Kuznetsov goals away from Wayne Gretzky.

for sure he looked like he didnt want it that way and not a celebration initially

it’s really annoying that people are complaining about it being an ENG. OV just did something nobody thought we’d ever see and people wanna cry about how it happened. Just enjoy being able to see history.
Especially because OV had an easy EN chance and passed to Kuzy instead who passed up a wide open goal to drop it back to OV

I personally would rather score on a goalie for a record goal.

Of course. So he's normally more active? Reminds me of a 45 yr old Teemu in this game.
He picks his spots. When the energy is needed, he still has it. Top speed is gone, acceleration too, but he’s capable of moves and physicality when he has to do it. Late on a back to back with travel? Likely not the most in the tank. But he works his ass off to get in the shape he is in now.

The consistency and longevity. I don't care that he's got two less cups than Sid.

This guy's legacy is a tier higher.
I don't like using championships as a significant argument when comparing players in team sports. Sid has other arguments for all around game and I can see both sides but I agree with you. Ovi is the best of his generation and up there in the all time conversation. I really hope he decides to play long enough to go for 1000 career goals. Definitely within reach if he wants to try for it, though I suspect he goes back to Russia sometime between breaking the record and 1000.

Yeah, on the breakaway he looked sloooow, was hoping he'd score 802 there. Definitely still has the power aspect of his game though.
