So is Laine a 40 goal guy or a 30G and 50 point player?

And what does he want 9 Mill?

Could be the steal of the century, or you could be paying a guy like Drouin 9 Mill a year.

If habs could do it I would offer 2 1st(loto protected), a combo of Phoeling/Suziki/Brook/Claufield and Drouin and Byron.

Not sure if that would be enough and if there would be enough cap to sign Laine to the contract he wants.
Wait, you'd give up:
2 firsts (lottery protected)
Drouin and Byron
And one of Brook/Suzuki/Poehling/Caufield?

Way too much man, imo

Omg I'm not giving anything close to that combination.

lol

Pretty sure they’d rather accomodate themselves with Domi than take on garbage like Drouin, unless he’s like the 4th or 5th asset in value of habs trade package.

You think? The only problem to keep Laine is the same problem they'll face next year for Domi. Sure Domi is the better player but will be paid a lot morr than Drouin starting next year and there lies the problem for them

Byron is more of a cap dump, for Lanies contract we would need salary room.

2 1st is based on hearing a rumor that NJ was going to offer 3 1sts. Also Drouin isn't a huge compared to Laine potential and I like the 4 prospects but do any of them ever score 30-40 goals?

You have to make it attractive to WPG and be better than other offers. I also read Svenchico was maybe on the block for Laine if CAR gets in on it. SoI don't want to give up KK so had to offer a lot.

WPG getting back 50 point Drouin and a 1st I don't think thats enough to get Laine.

33 years old is what Subban will be at the end of his deal. I'm not really worried. Domi is a tough sob and he's fast so even if he gets slower he'll just be average. He'll still have hockey IQ, hands and a good wrister. 8 million is nothing now for a first-liner, but ideally he accepts around 7M*8 years.
right now, I wouldnt even bet on him wanting to stay a Hab.

We always have Jet fans that visit throughout the season. I wish we could get a few to weigh in on Laine.

That's way too much. Remember, the Jets don't have a ton of leverage considering the attitude baggage that may come with Laine.

I'm not the one to rave on "character" like our beloved GM but the reports we got on this guy plus the eye-test... And when he had his disappearing acts...

He's still young and could eventually figure it out. That's why it's a "gamble". I mean, you 100% get a top scoring player with size and skill. But what if you gave a lot for him and he still pouts and wants to go to more south or whatever. You have to sell low on him. It's a delicate decision.

You have to give to get and if CAR is going to give up Svenchekov and NJD 3 1st round picks then the offer needs to be competative. The leverage Jets have is they can trade Laine to any other team thats not Montreal.

Now I do admit I don't know if Laine is worth that and his salary. Will he score 40 for the next 8 years, or be a 30G 50 Pt guy? Thats the risk. Was his 44 goals an anamoly or not? Thats probably why Jets haven't jumped to pay him right away.

But Jets aren't going to do Drouin and a 2nd for Laine. And I don't want to move Domi or KK.

Good thing we locked up Weal for 2 years @ 500K more than the 1-year deal Sheehan just signed for

Sheehan is better/more proven than Weal & Thompson... Yet we signed both of those guys for more 3 1/2 months ago...
Predictably, equal/better talent easy to find and sign late in the summer, but our genius GM just can't help himself with overpaying for replaceable depth players.

Bergevin is clueless.

When you're complaining about an extra year and an extra $500K, you're scraping the bottom of the barrel. Not to mention when Weal came in, he had chemistry with his teammates. I would rather sign Weal to his deal knowing that he clicked with the team.

He played 16 games... Let's not exaggerate the "chemistry" angle...

When you constantly defend a GM despite clear incompetence, you're bowing to an emperor with no clothes.

The simple point is that it was poor roster management to lock up those 2 players when he did at the price he did...

I'm not complaining so much as pointing out the obvious, you'd be more on point to attack my post for that.
