That would be awesome to get Laine , hard to find a scenario where we overpay grossly. If we get it done it would be for a quantity of assets many still unproven.

Except KK and Domi everyone is on the table including Caufield. Suzuki could become one of the rare prospects to be traded twice before even reaching the show.

Assets wich would hurt the most to lose :
Caufield
Suzuki
Poehling
1st rounder 2020
Brook
Romanov
Primeau

Drouin would have to be included in the trade.

A way the price could be lowered is if there's someone else Winnipeg wants to move out. Having Laine as part of the deal will still be costly. But if Jets want to shed (as an example) Perreault and his two years at $4.15M cap hit, then that may bring the price down.

Only issue with the way MB has spent his cap so far, would there still be room for the Habs to eat salary, plus would there be enough left over in order to sign both Laine and to Domi?

I'd be super surprised if MB is even entertaining moving either of these two.

and equally surprised if the Jets are able to find a trade partner with an asset of that caliber they are willing to send the other way...

at this time of year, finding a 1-for-1 (or ish...) quality for quality partner will be extremmely challenging... can almost cross off the other RFA holdouts, even though a Prokorov or Werenski might be a great fit, assuming the catalyst for moving Laine is recognizing they can make it work to pay two RFA's 7-8M+ and fit it into their cap structure... and seriously doubt Cheveldayoff is as foolish as MB to trade a prime mid-20's star for an 30+ vet on a long term deal like the PK/Weber move.

beyond that, what team has an ELC/RFA player as highly touted as Domi or JKO that has any reason to move said player?

Not a huge fan of Laine since last year but he's obviously really special. It's an occasion that doesn't come often, now let's see the ask. What if it's Kotkaniemi+ ?

I can't see us getting Laine without giving up Domi or Kotkaniemi
Agreed. No way we get him without giving up one of those guys.

As much as I'd hate to part with Domi, he'd be the guy I'd give up. KK looks like he could become a true star in this league.

Of course, I'd offer up Drouin first...
Realistically I think it would make sense to trade Gallagher for Laine. We would obviously need to add but I think it would be a good startup.
Would do that in a second. Jets would not though.

No. I’m already throwing stuff at my tv thinking of just the prospect of Laine and Drouin being in the same top 6 on opposite sides.

I don't think they would want Domi….makes no senses at all.
They are set down the middle with Scheifele and Little.

The reason they would let go of Laine is because he's a winger who's going to ask too much money and they already got Wheeler, Ehlers and eventually Connor who's going to be on big contract as wingers. Domi would be a winger on this team and he's going to ask too much next year too.

I think Drouin is more of a fit for them cause he's under contract for 4 more years at a salary they can deal with.
Of course, would need to give more than just Drouin.

Having said that, i would target Connor more than Laine if i was Bergevin.

So is Laine a 40 goal guy or a 30G and 50 point player?

And what does he want 9 Mill?

Could be the steal of the century, or you could be paying a guy like Drouin 9 Mill a year.

If habs could do it I would offer 2 1st(loto protected), a combo of Phoeling/Suziki/Brook/Claufield and Drouin and Byron.

Not sure if that would be enough and if there would be enough cap to sign Laine to the contract he wants.

lol

Pretty sure they’d rather accomodate themselves with Domi than take on garbage like Drouin, unless he’s like the 4th or 5th asset in value of habs trade package.

At one point you need to take some risks. I think Laine is skilled and young enough to take that risk. I would never blame a GM to go all in on a player like Laine if it doesn't work. As long as it doesn't involve JK+ do it and deal with the consequences later. The guy scored 36 at 18 and 44 at 19. You don't see that kind of production from a teenager very often. His production in playoffs is not bad at all too. There was absolutely no read flag on this guy before last season.

That's what I'm worried about. Domi could've had way more than 72 points if we had a good PP. He was top 15 in the league in ES point scoring with 61 points. If we had a better PP, he would have easily been a PPG guy. Domi hitting 85 points next year is extremely realistic.

Domi had as many issues as the bulk of our forward group on the PP and is as much to blame for the lackluster results as anyone else. If he's a center he absolutely has to control the face offs period. I understand it's a group thing but he wasn't that much better on the wing either. Yes he needs to be better in those situations as does everyone else. That alone will boost his production.
