yep ive said it before signing tavares was a mistake.....but i got shot down like you wouldn't believe.....i stick to my guns though and still say they had a great core without tavares.....shouldve signed or traded for a D
Getting Tavares was an awesome move. Marner problems have nothing to do with that one way or another. And it's still an awesome move if they have to deal Marner or not.

Tavares is a tier one player. They gave up zero assets for him. You do that all day long if you can.

Will Toronto's GM be offering Marner a two year deal paying 2.5 million a year? Are half the fans defending the GM for doing so?

Not the MB thread dude.

Hope we extend Domi now. this RFA situation looks stressful as hell.

Who cares where he was traded. What counts is what he was traded for. There were probably 20 GMs interested in trading a top veteran straight up for Pacioretty. But he didn't take those deals. Instead, we got a deal that included a 19-year old highly touted prospect. Who gives a damn if it was LA, Vegas, or any other team? Bergevin prioritized correctly and got what was needed.
It's one of the few proactive trades he's made. He deserves full credit for it.

Even if Suzuki doesn't pan out I at least like the fact that we went after a prospect.

Stop with this meaningless argument. A team could win a Cup without both of them ; It won't be the end of this franchise the day they are less effective . They will only play secondary role like Chara , and the Primeau , Brook, Romanov will be there instead
No, but it will be the biggest waste of talent this franchise has seen.

Oh is that so....why is he not playing in NY than?......how could a team that drafted a tier one player let him walk for free or not sign him to a franchise contract......Toronto f***ed up lol

NYI didn't "let" him walk. He had the right to do so.

Considering that neither have ever won a cup... Thank you for pointing out the obvious.

Next time perhaps try to respond to the post your quoting with something other than trivial nonsense.

FYI, the odds on Primeau, Romanov & Brook not becoming NHL regulars is greater than the odds of them becoming cup winners, let alone impact nhlers... Terrible take.

Exactly. There are no elite type franchise players in there, no Dahlin or Jack Hughes.

I disagree here, Morrissey is WIN number one defenceman, he's worth at least that. I would for myself pay him 7.5M whitout any problem.

Byfuglien is still their #1, but yeah I agree that Morrissey will probably be more than worth this money over the contract

Bottom feeder trading with a contender and getting a prospect for a vet.

Basic hockey management 101.

But yes , it is surprising that MB with his donkey IQ would get that right.

Not when your D needs way more attention than your top 6.

The Wild is a mess. Worst situation for a GM in the whole league imo.

If they're only going to play a secondary role they might as well be traded while they still have value.
Of course they might . Imagine the return that Price could get . But i think they will wait for the young guns 2-3 years to be more ready ( if ever they trade one or both of them )

and Holmgren was an idiot to hire the guy who made the mess in Minny to run the Flyers.

Fletcher has already started out in Philly the the way he f***ed up in Minny. That Hayes contract was just ridiculous.

Holmgren and his old boys club attitude hired another yes man.

Werenski signs a deal, all of a sudden so are the defenceman. Marner and his bull**** are holding things up and honestly, it makes me chuckle a bit only because we don’t have a player involved in this.

LOL...that's what every generation says about the one that comes after them. It's more that they know better than to think that the parent corporation has their best interests at heart. MLSE, like every other org that pays salaries, is only interested in paying the minimum required to retain services.
He refused 88M USD over 7 years...Not exactly proving me wrong suggesting this doesn't even qualify as a minimum required to retain his services...
You're right though, greed is in every generation.

Of course it was obvious , but it seems that some people don't realize that a hockey tea, isn't something static
