Of course they might . Imagine the return that Price could get . But i think they will wait for the young guns 2-3 years to be more ready ( if ever they trade one or both of them )
And honestly that doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Once again, it's a lack of direction. By waiting two or three years and doing nothing you waste valuable assets.

Price is still great now. If we added to what we have we could actually improve tremendously. On the flipside if we traded him at least we're maximiing his value.

By doing nothing we waste Price, remain a bubble team and get mid round picks. It just doesn't make sense.

He refused 88M USD over 7 years...Not exactly proving me wrong suggesting this doesn't even qualify as a minimum required to retain his services...
You're right though, greed is in every generation.
I don't think it's greed. For Marner it's pride.

He feels slighted by the team. His father has ingrained in him a sense of being underestimated his whole life. He sees others getting big bucks and feels like he's not being recognized.

I posted it in another thread... somebody needs to pull him aside and provide him with some perspective. 88 mil is insane money, he's in his hometown where he could help lead his team to their first cup in 50 years, the team has given him as much as it can...

I used to think it would be impossible to wind up in a situation where Marner would be dealt but now it's almost looking like the right thing to do. His head isn't screwed on right.

I don't think anyone has claimed he turned down that deal.

It was 7 or 8 years at 11m. 77m over 7 years or 88 over 8.

Seems nit-picky but it changes the AAV quite a bit.

Your scenario would make him the highest paid player in the league @ 12.6m

Most make it to the NHL by pure competitiveness.
That one track mind that make them do the same exercice 10x more then the other guy because that's what will get them above the other guy.
NHL players always compare themselves and always want to be the best.
Since they can't all compare ***** they compare contracts.
It's all about status

........

Bob Mckenzie did NOT report this.

KrissE claimed Marner rejected 88m usd over seven years. AKA 12.6 AAV.

That is not what Bob Mckenzie said. Mckenzie said 7 and 8 year deals ~11m.

77m over 7 years
88m over 8 years

Nobody can math anymore?

Wow, Peg is really going nowhere with offers like these:

Apparently, the term of the deal was 2 or 3 years. The offer was evidently turned down by the Laine camp.

For **** sakes you'd think if you make the effort to post to correct me you'd read what you are correcting.

You are correct it was 11x8 that they offered.

I think the disconnect comes from when the every guys on TSN factored in the exchange and it came out to be something absurd like 115 million Canadian.

It's still an astronomical amount to nearly anyone in the world, but I'm pretty sure if they offered him the deal of 88m(USD) over 7 years he takes it.

Would he really say no to making more than McDavid?

Nothing nit-picky, just reporting what they've been saying on TSN. 7 or 8...who cares. Point is 11M per.

Pride? About what? He was offered this in June apparently. Leafs didn't jerk him around or make him wait, offer him a garbage deal.
Apparently they had three deals on the table for him, each of them structured differently with short-long terms.
I'm loving this, great to see the Leafs struggle to sign him, but the kid is coming out of this looking like some greedy bitch. Leafs released this info to turn public opinion and putting the pressure on his side, no doubt about it.

He may end up captain of The Toronto Maple Regular Seasoners

Still have not won a play off round since Ed Belfour was their goalie.

Of course it was obvious , but it seems that some people don't realize that a hockey tea, isn't something static

I don't think I've ever come accross any post or poster that your comment applies to... Maybe I haven't been here long enough.

Pride about not getting as good a deal as Matthews. It's an ego thing.

But can MB sign a RFA player? Does he have to budget? I'm not as sure as everyone here. After all those years of being under the cap i think Molson asked him to reduce the payroll. I don't think it's a choice MB made personally. He knew all along Aho would be matched and he would not have to pay him. Everyone knew the offer would be matched including my mother who know nothing about hockey.

If he can't understand a center with slightly better stats in career will be paid more than him then it's a problem. Nothing to do with pride i would call this delusion.

Well, it wouldn't be the first time somebody has been deluded by their own ego now would it?
