Why would you assume that a guy playing 12 mins a night, out of position, that requires a 6mm QO will sign a long term contract at a reasonable rate? If he was playing those minutes here would you be so sure he was a lock to sign long term? I can see neither party being interested in that.

And thats not how the math works on this.
He needs to be better then the first, the third AND the opportunity cost represented by 6mm in cap space. Only 4 games in but they are struggling to find minutes for him. They have 10 better forwards.

Because he is still a baby and will now have to EARN his way on a WINNING team. Do you know what their long term plans are for him? They also aren’t struggling to find minutes for him he is getting the minutes he deserves on a strong team.

You are missing the point. If he struggles this year, you think the Canes are going to make a long term commitment? Why would they go 4x4 on their 10th best forward. And that’s being generous, he may only be better today then Stepan.

Dundon is on record saying it’s a one year gamble and he was way down their list of options. I mean what is a 30 point LW that doesn’t kill penalties and struggles in his own end worth? 2.5x4 maybe?

Anyway time will tell but he better find a way to outplay Martinook if he wants a decent long term deal.

if you're gonna play low minutes, better do it behind actually great players and with quality linemates while making millions. it's not exactly a bad situation for him :dunno:

12 minutes building confidence on a winning team. Imagine if KK was with us now sure he’d be getting 16 - 17 minutes but at what cost. We probably wouldn’t have Dvac and it would be very ugly.
Watching Suzuki struggle in his current role does anyone think KK would be any better as our 2nd C. How would that benefit the player long term.

Yup I’ll give Rod the Bod the season and the benefit of the doubt. If anyone can help this player grow as a professional he can. Also keep in mind Staal and Stepan are getting old KK wouldn’t be the first C moved to the wing to learn his trade in the NHL.
