Not gonna go into a lot of details how I know this, just that it's someone in the family who was involved and had to meet the Habs over this, including Patty Burns (I have a signed Pat Burns Top Set card out of it). Shane and Lile got into a lot of drunken bar fights at the tail end of the 80's and in the early 90's and authorities often had to meet officials at the forum to deal with the matters without alerting the press. The last one my relative went to was mere weeks before Shane got traded, so I guess that was the last straw that broke the camel's back.

Not to state the obvious, but Dubois isn't either.

I would not be obsessed with keeping an internal cap if we want a new player coming in. That seems like limiting the landscape of players coming in. This is not the middle age.

I don’t think the Habs have an internal cap but I also don’t think PLD is worth more than Suzuki or Caufield. If he was UFA sure but in a RFA sign and trade and 8 year deal, 7.8m is good compensation for him.

Sad to watch the demise of Alex Galchenyuk who had a promising start to an NHL career. At 21 he scored 30 goals and it was pretty much all downhill from there.

What went wrong?
Attitude? Family? Night life?

He could've at least developed into an offensive top-6 role. He had glaring flaws but he could put it in the net.
That's what he was with us but hasn't done anywhere else. It shows how it was clearly him that's the problem.

I think most of the time it's on the player. The team can only do so much to help these guys. It's unfortunate but it's true.

I can't believe there are people blaming Galchenyuk's career trajectory on Bergevin, that is too funny. Some people are so stubborn they just cannot change their mind once it's been set.

Bergy is a monster for ruining this guys life, what a jerk haha.
More like Bergevin didn't check into this guy's reputation enough before taking him at 3OA.

I really hope they are integrating young players better than they were back then. The party atmosphere didn't help in the '80s and '90s when the team was good and it certainly hasn't helped the weaker teams since.

You are right but 6'4 players don't grow on trees! LA paid for the size premium.

Or *the Habs are also on this* premium aka The Lecavalier special.

Dubois vs Debrincat comp is interesting. Debrincat beats him in every category over 3 years. He's 5'8 tho so he gets 45M less

would be hilarious if Canes signed TDA after holding up the supposed trade.
It would be especially hilarious after the Mickey Mouse Philadelphia Flyers organization leaked out that they were moving Hayes and DeAngelo in separate trades to St Louis and Carolina a couple of weeks ago.

Hayes was supposed to go in a big trade with Travis Sanheim that was returning Krug and futures. Krug then vetoed the trade. I'm sure Sanheim really appreciates that his name got leaked out as part of it.

This seems to have blown up in the Flyers faces. All they're getting collectively now for Hayes and DeAngelo is a 6th round pick from St Louis.

Looks good on them. Gritty could run a better organization.

The amazing Briere:

1) has a major trade that falls apart (not the first time a GM has that happen to them), but the trade ends up Hayes @ 50% retained for 3 years for only a 6th R'd pick.

2) has Cutter Gauthier turn down development camp invite and Briere says he "assumes (meaning doesnt know for sure)" it's because he played a lot of hockey this year.

3) has a DeAngelo trade with Canes. But has to wait a full year before trading him back to Carolina. That date passes. No trade. And now going to buy him out.

But hey, he took Michkov, so Habs should have hired him. 🤣

His NHL career is over. Is kinda ironic. He started his career in the 2012-2013 season and is going to end his NHL career in the 2022-2023 (10 years after his draft).

Shame.... He had the talent to be a good top 6 forward.
He can still walk away as a young millionaire, maybe get another run in a lesser league in Europe and hopefully find a way to quell his demons and not end up penniless.

We should be calling Danny to inquire about Konecy....

Flyers will draft in the top 3 next year.

Preaching to the choir. I was against letting PLD to hit UFA because I knew he would command a premium. I wished we acquired him via trade and sign but evidentially, the prices were too high. LA really wanted him.

And President of Hockey Ops Jonesy has been a TV personality since his playing days ended nearly 20 years ago. His primary focus has been to entertain.

I found it strange too that Briere didn't have a clear answer for why Cutter Gauthier wasn't at development camp.

In a few years, I think they'll get regret not taking Leonard at #7.
