And President of Hockey Ops Jonesy has been a TV personality since his playing days ended nearly 20 years ago. His primary focus has been to entertain.

I found it strange too that Briere didn't have a clear answer for why Cutter Gauthier wasn't at development camp.

In a few years, I think they'll get regret not taking Leonard at #7.
Flyers are owned by a TV company so makes sense that they value TV experience haha.

Yeah but he was BPA and BPA can literally never ever go wrong. I'm told.
Nobody has ever claimed that.

Here's something else to think about. Whether it's Chuck or JK.....those kids didn't have the mentality to be up in the NHl at 18. CLEARLY either we couldn't care less about hte psychological aspect of it all or we had stupid guys in charge....those kids felt entitled...weren't ready psycholigically and physically and maybe that those BPA's could have transformed into something better.

But nobody has ever claimed that BPA is perfect. I'm a big advocate of it and yet I keep saying that I prefer being wrong with BPA than needs. Pretty sure that doesn't mean that BPA is without fault.

Chucky is not well

Whoever on the habs roster came-up with the nickname Chucky (Prust?), like holy f***ing shitballz, that's some major foreshadowing

the Galchenyuk arrest notes are wild. It's too bad, he had a great skill set but a questionable IQ. Bergevin was never the kind of GM who knew how to develop prospects, let alone off the ice and this kid was in all kinds of trouble from the beginning. Right inside Montreal's party scene, alcohol and drugs, puck bunnies and a meddling father who contradicted the coaches. He never had the stability on or off the ice and here we are. Of course, most of this is of his own making. Very sad

1. You’re entitled to your opinion but it’s a stretch to call him a locker-room distraction after calling him a twice quitter. There isn’t anything to support either claim, especially in WPG. He wasn’t disliked by WPG’s management or lockerroom or media.

2. The timing isn’t right to pay that sorta price to acquire that sorta player. I agree.

3. PLD is in the same age profile as Suzuki. Picks from 2024 onward are not going to matter to the real Suzuki-Cole competitive window and other than Hutson and Reinbacher none of our prospects are particularly good or interesting or irreplaceable (imo).

A roster upgrade would’ve been a productive move — maybe that’s Newhook but it’s awfully confident of them imo.
I highly doubt Newhook will be as productive as PLD. But he cost far less to acquire.

I’m not going to say PLD is a cancer. But the fact that he’s on his third team at 24 (by his choice) doesn’t give me confidence.

Glad we passed on him.

In the end there is no such thing as BPA.

More like Bergevin didn't check into this guy's reputation enough before taking him at 3OA.

I really hope they are integrating young players better than they were back then. The party atmosphere didn't help in the '80s and '90s when the team was good and it certainly hasn't helped the weaker teams since.
What more can they do? 2012 had the worst top 4 in the last 20 years. The guy drafted before or after are not better. Toronto got lucky at #5. It has a bad year to draft a forward. 2012 had great goalies.

Man....Galchenyuk has basically just flushed whatever career he had left down the toilet.....definitely has some shit he needs to deal with.

Honestly that's probably the least concerning part of his profile to me. He wants to live in a real city that has culture and things to do and he got drafted by Columbus and then traded to an even smaller city, and then his final 2 choices were Montreal and LA. If it was a thing where he was always having issues with his coaches/teammates and stuff that would be one thing, but I'm not going to hold it against the guy if he asked Columbus to trade him to a real city and then didn't want to stay in Winnipeg.

Ultimately the price paid just made no sense for us, or even for LA in my opinion.

Well the guy rated in the top-5 who was considered the "safe" pick but questionable top line offence was Forsberg and turns out he did actually have 1st line offence.

And yeah looking at that draft class is pretty bleak, Galchenyuk is still 5th in total points, and 7th for games played from that draft so all things considered probably wasn't even that big of mistake for a pick.

Galchenyuk came in as a character player who was compared to Jonathan Toews due to his two way play. In his first season he produced at an incredible pace at 5on5, comparable to Tavares, Stamkos, etc in their rookie seasons.

I don't know if it would have helped, but the Habs were profoundly idiotic to rush him to the NHL, which a lot of this forum knew at the time. He simply wasn't ready athletically as one of the most rushed players in the history of the sport, and clearly he needed more time to mature and develop fortitude in isolation of the celebrity status.

Instead there was something about Galchenyuk, Leblanc, and Eugenie Bouchard.

Note: The Habs didn't even have a sports psychologist on staff for the longest time.
Yeah…no!

Mental midget from the get go. Beaulieu’s old man in juniors (Sarnia) started him on W at faceoffs due to poor faceoff ability and lack of Dzone positioning. At WJC he started as 1C in game 1 but kept dropping down the lineup till he became W on 4th line by game 3 of the tourney, again complaint was complete lack of defensive awareness.

Never improved at NHL, moreover opposition started focusing on the glaring Defensive weakness, combined w avg game pace did him in…

Can’t fix stupid

Go off the board, I guess. It would have been a good move that year, or at least there were options.

Forsberg heading into draft season was expected to be a top-3 pick, then had a miserable WJC in 2012, which dropped his value. Ironically he was probably the best hand for the buck 1st rounder

I wanted Michkov or Leonard at 5, I didn't get what I wanted. I just f***ing can't stand the fallout since the draft, all these people whining and crying because we didn't take him. If you ask me THAT is the strange behavior.

While I agree. Let's be honest man, you were on the other side of the table last year with Slafkovsky.
