They're going to fall pretty hard before Vas comes back. They really tried to "min-max" the cap and find the cheapest backups possible and ended up without any NHL experience. Between that and their bottom pairing and fourth line there is an exploitable weakness 10-15+ minutes a game. They're 3 lines and 2 d pairings right now.

Even if vas was healthy, there are just so many miles on the team odometer that eventually, it can't be ignored. Three straight years of short summers, and playing more games than everyone else is going to catch up. It bit them last year already.

I really don't believe a team in their shoes can go hard for close to 82 games. They will need to rely on experience and try to be as efficient as possible while going about clinching their playoff spot.... Then the real marathon starts.

One of the first thing Sportnets said on the home opener broadcast was how the Leafs wanted a 100+ points season instead of just saying making the playoffs and going deep into them.

It feels like copium, they set the bar low for the Leafs's end of season "victory".

Yeah, either they have a low bar or they have no insight whatsoever.

Who in their right mind as a supporter cares about their regular season results anymore? That ship sailed around 5 years ago.

DeSmith was very good against Edmonton Saturday night. Too bad we have to keep Allen instead of him.

It looks like signing Allen to that contract will turn out to be a bad move. Hughes couldn't know he would be able to get a DeSmith for nothing though.

Simon Nemec took an awful hit the other day in the AHL. Seems like he's okay but it could've been much worse.

I hate seeing players suffer these disproportionate blows -- I understand it is a high-speed game but rubbing a player out near the stanchions should be firmly and universally discouraged. The Chara-Pacioretty hit was really infuriating to witness live, a totally inappropriate play.

True.

IDK how Chara got away scott-free tbh.

I wonder how that hit would be viewed if it happened in 2023...

No one cares
Somebody's gotta explain to me this 3 days between all 3 first habs games of the season nonsense its giving me massive blue balls and its awful
Think of it as the NHL doing us a solid. The Wild gets an extra day in Montreal and get a chance to enjoy some extracurricular activities. If they come out flat on Tuesday night, remember this post.

The Reaves signing seems pretty good so far. Leafs needed a player like that. And it will make our rivalry more intense. As much as I hated the Bruins about 10 years ago, those games were absolutely amazing. I probably got more satisfaction in beating them in that classic 7 game series than going to the cup final.

Starting Saturday the season starts ramping up but what a slow start!!

Much prefer being the team with games in hand.

Agreed, with the amount of attention he's received over the last few years. It's quite surprising that he doesn't have a swollen head. The kid comes across as being mature beyond his years.
It was the one thing that se him apart from prospects like Michkov. The dedication is evident in everything the kid does. We didn't see or hear about anything even remotely close to his demeanor with the Russian Kid. It gives Bedard a huge leg up in terms of readiness and is a trend we see with the NA elite vs just about anyone else.

Are we better than the lightning?
I laughed when Joseph dumped Hedman after Victor tried to get tough. One thing became very evident with Hedman in the last post season. He doesn't like to get hit or stood up to. The word may be getting out and Mathieu would surely know.

Ottawa will make the dance before Buffalo IMO. I think they have more depth in goal.
They will lose Tarasenko next season probably though. Tarasenko might be the best signing of the summer. He had an off season last year but he did 34 goals and 82 points the previous year. He's 31 which is not that old. He might be done but there's a fair chance he comes back to his usual 30 goals and 70 points. Giroux and Tarasenko is the kind of medium risk high reward signing/acquisition i wish MB did instead of Hemsky and company. He did it with Radulov but the windows was slowly ending when he did.

I'm still not sold on Dorion he made some bonehead moves in the past but Ottawa will be a fun team to watch and Dorion has been doing much better lately. Man i wish we had BT. I did not say on draft day that we should have drafted him but i remember defending him saying he had the same potential as his brother. There was so many bad takes on him on draft day with people calling him a bottom 6 guy. I still think he has the potential to be just as good as his brother.
