I totally hear and get this. o_O
All in a tongue in cheek kind of way.

Wouldn’t mind a Canadian team winning it but in this particular case, would be totally surprising as they did nothing to shore up their goalie situation over many years. They’d prove that relying on offensive superstars can help mask many a flaw.

I know how you usually roll, tongue in cheek until someone pushes you into bitch slapping them. :D

But I wasn't kidding, I hate generalizing but Gen Z Oilers fans seems to be a special breed, I do know a few lovely Oilers fans too.

And no, no Canadian team but the Habs please. I am coming around to respecting the Oilers a little more, as I pointed out before, I think their coach is doing a bang-up job and might be the best coach they've had in the McDavid era. I like to watch good hockey as I always say. However, insufferable Albertans will make an Oilers win soooooooooooo extra annoying, there I said it, and I love Alberta and lots of Albertans myself. I love Canada, I love the differences from province to province, and hate all the division that's happening among us, but that's for another thread. I am going off topic. Hockey!

Ever? no. But it is what 30 years since a Canadian team won the stanley cup. Beside Edmonton, do you see any real contender to bring the stanley cup back home?
Yes, easily. Most of the Canadian teams are in good spots and there's bound to be playoff contenders from somewhere north of the border. There's been enough finalists for the last of averages to kick in.

Meh
Relative to the revenue growth of the other major leagues, including MLS, the NHL lags.

90's through today is a golden age of NA pro sports, NHL has fared poorly in the context of the sector growth. Both NBA & NHL revenue around 2000 were about 2B$, NBA sits at 10.6B in 2023 with 30 teams vs NHL at 6.4B @ 32 teams.

Bettman is a fraud riding a wave of industry growth that has covered his numerous missteps, rather than a saavy leader delivering sector leading execution.

Even worse when you consider that the base hockey consumer is a far higher net worth consumer than the average nbs or NFL fan.
Higher net worth isn’t always what leagues chase. A million gullible suckers can contribute more than millions of richer customers with better judgement.

Or you can say it took a generation 20-25 years to establish a foothold and many of those non-traditional markets are starting to spit out NHL talent.

Celebrini played Sharks youth hockey, Matthews Yotes youth hockey, Robertson brothers Kings youth hockey till they moved to Detroit for Wings sponsored youth program. The tidal wave of 1st rounders coming from US system is growing year over year.

I can only speak of how popular & ultra competitive hockey is here in the Northeast - the MidFairfield program is the #1 program in the country and are defending Quebec Pee Wee champs and likely to win again next Feb.

Hockey will never match popularity of NFL, NBA, MLB in the US but it’s made significant strides

I want the Oilers to win the Cup even if it’s seems that’s lots of Albertans hate our ass for real.

I was on a trip on the west coast of Mexico where lots of western Canadians were also taking their vacations.

Lot’s of them were hard on us. Took for granted all Quebecois voted for Trudeau lol.

They We’re saying that we hated their oil but like the perequation. I felt the animosity everytime people were talking politics.

I'm I the only one rooting for the Oilers to win?

Nope, me as well. I know a few here don’t want them to be the next Canadian team to win, but IDGAF about the Canada stuff. McDavid and Draisaitl deserve it.

It’s no secret I hate the Bruins, and at the peak of my hatred, I did always feel Bourque deserved a cup. I just love great players cementing their legacy, especially given how hard it is to win the cup.
