It's coming. He looks like a cooked lobster standing back there and he has voiced his displeasure with the way he has to conduct himself when communicating with his players. You just know he wants to kick the shit out of somebody lol.
Yeah probably Lou. :sarcasm:
One of the reasons we passed on Patrick is his larger than life personality will clash sooner or later.
He'd be a great coach to bring in the back half of a season for a poor performing contender.

I wonder what Anders Lee would cost as a 2C place holder for next season I think he's going UFA in 26/27.
That is one team that has to retool at the very least they hit their apogee in the Covid 2 season.

Wouldn’t mind to hot swap for St Patrick once MSL has been fully ran through.

I don’t think Lou and Roy are at loggerheads either, Lou knows the team he’s assembled is less than stellar.

Aside from his first season in Colorado, has Roy ever really had success coaching in this league?

The way he exited that organization was odd too and he left the avs with their tail between their legs. I don't recall other instances where a coach packs his bags just before camp.

Nope
His recent hype came from his work with the Quebec Remparts which was stellar in his Mem Cup season.

Yeah, I would be cautious in thinking that is translatable to the pros. There's a list of guys in other sports who are legends at the collegiate level who couldn't make a dent in the pros.

In hockey, an example thay immediately comes to mind is Don hay. He has legendary status in whl. His nhl tenure was nothing like that.

MSL's coaching experience was entirely contained to coaching pubescent children. He claimed at the time of his hiring with Montreal that coaching the concepts is the same at every level. He had some grounding for thinking this -- if I'm not mistaken he's super well-regarded in US HS-level hockey.

MSL hasn't earned much more leeway and faith imo, the Habs haven't gotten more serious as a hockey team. I don't watch much other hockey though so I'm not sure what is the malaise of the Isles.

Well, this was specifically about Roy and his established lack of success in the nhl (although perception seems to say otherwise).

Lou has publicly said that he built his organizations with the Habs being his blueprint, and the coaching hires in his history have reflected that (Roy, Robinson lemaire, burns, Julien). I would guess this hiring is just lou going back to his playbook as opposed to his junior track record, regardless.

If you ignore all the other coaches Lou hired, like with the Leafs, sure there’s a pattern.

MSL’s track record is worse than Roy’s, not sure why you won’t make an apples to apples comparison.

On the topic of lou, I'm not even talking about a pattern. I'm talking about what he's publicly stated and it's supported by the amount of hires from one organization. Of course, there's a right place, right time aspect to it, but if we go through all his external hires, I would bet that the greatest amount of them had significant experience from the Habs organization either as a player, coach, or both

Regarding St. Louis, the question I posed was whether Roy had any success whatsoever outside of his rookie season. I also added that I didn't like the way he quit on that organization just before camp.

I think you're trying to steer this into a msl/Roy debate which is a whole other can of worms.

When was this statement made, can you cite it? Feels like a meaningless point.

MSL has even less success than Roy. No point to compare them, one is clearly beneath the other.

It’s hard to compare coaches success the way you’re doing it. MSL would likely find a way to have success behind a better team like Roy did. Right now, I think it’s hard to find someone whose coaching more poor then Roy right now. MSL is beneath a lot of coaches but definitely not him.

MSL and Roy are not apples to apples because MSL has only coached in a rebuilding NHL organization that was almost stripped down to the studs. Roy has gone to organizations that wanted immediate success and he seems to wear out his welcome quickly while having less than stellar results other than his first season in Colorado.

Roy had all the advantages in the Q with a team with tons of resources and ability to draw high end international imports.

I'm not saying MSL is a model NHL coach but Roy wouldn't be able to handle the mandate MSL was given. He'd blow his top and would probably be in hot water again for more domestic disturbances.

MSL's doing a terrible job. I don't see any cause to think one is worse than the other. What I do know is one has some modicum of success and the other has had zero success as an NHL coach.

It's not as if the current Isles or Roy's Aves were particularly well-built or competitive teams either.

Both teams were still a lot better than what MSL has had. Not deep but not as many worthless plugs and not the youngest team in the NHL.

But they went ahead and recreated the Lundqvist error with Shesterkin and now are blowing up the team and will be rebuilding with an 11 million dollar goalie.
It’s like what happened with Price.

I’m actually okay with big money on an elite goalie. Especially now because there are so few.

But what’s the point in doing this if you sign him and blow up the team?

Unless Roy is coming here as a goalie I don’t know why people are so fixated on bringing him back. He’s a hothead who creates drama everywhere.
