Am I crazy or should we have kept Kovacevic and dumped Barron?
I always thought he was pretty solid but MSL didn't really like him.

Jonathan Kovacevic lead the Devils in icetime tonight with 21:20 and Nathan Légaré made his NHL debut.

Habs spent two seasons developing him only to see him become a good Dman after he leaves.
He was a good dmen here. He was the best Habs +/- player the last 2 years and good on the PK.
You just don’t throw away an improving 6’5” 225 lbs right handed dmen that can do a little bit of everything and making less than 900K for a 4th round pick.

Yeah if NJ calls from now on Hughes shouldn't answer the phone so he doesn't get fleeced again. I am starting to think Hughes is not very good at trading.

I also liked him and thought throwing him away for nothing was a mistake. He wasn't flashy and therefore wasn't valued as much as some players on the current roster. It's a case of not knowing what you got until it's gone.

Dach and Newhook aren't anything special that's for sure.

So the poster believes Reinbacher was a mistake - it's an opinion and a prediction. He might be right...
It has nothing to do with Reinbacher.

I think you pick the BPA despite your roster make-up because anything can happen (busts, injuries, contract issues) and if you missed on a potential PPG+ winger with so much talent you’d better make changes to your process so it doesn’t happen again.

Maybe they over-valued “character” like Bergevin did — we still have Lapointe here, don’t forget. Maybe they were too arrogant about the roster’s existing look and felt that Michkov didn’t fit on an already small top6 — a dumb conclusion but I wouldn’t put it past NHL guys. Maybe they felt he wouldn’t want to come to Montreal — then the scout who talked to him should be fired and a better more charming scout should be sent to talk to players.

Whatever the reason, missing on a player so talented should not happen again. I don’t care if the entire top6 is under 5’9”, you can always make roster changes but you can’t acquire PPG+ cost-controlled players so easily.

I don’t want to even talk about Reinbacher because it isn’t fair to the guy to have to stack up against Michkov. What would Reinbacher even have to do in order to get the same aura and league-wide praise as Michkov? It’s asking for too much. I hope he has a good and productive career with us, that’s all I’ll expect from him.

Kovacevic is looking worse moreso because Reinbacher tore his knee ten minutes into preseason. Likely the plan was him to be with the big club by the trade deadline.

Obviously they didn't see kovacevic signing another short term low money deal and didn't plan on giving him 4x4.

Not sure it would have been a good idea to start the season with 2 rookie dmen, 5 dmen with less than 100 NHL games played and 6 at 23 years old and under.

Kovacevic and Xhekaj was a good physical 3rd pairing dmen.

I would have no problem with Kovacevic getting Savard type money to play on the 2nd pairing.

If you realize you won’t resign, the. You trade him at the deadline for a higher value.

Matheson was the guy to trade, but I guess he’s Hughes ex client.

Lombard didn't have to fight. It's not like he was jumped. He fully agreed to the tilt. Takes balls to do that. I'm sure his teammates appreciate the effort. Wasn't it xhekaj who fought him? Held his own too. Goes to show.
They are both idiots imho. Lombard for getting into it with a heavyweight champ and Olivier for engaging with one of the seven dwarfs and celebrating as if he just slayed Godzilla. Whats he do for an encore? push an old lady down the stairs or kick a couple of puppies. Sure, Lombard has balls but no brain and disappointed with Olivier for not having principals.
