HF Habs: Out Of Town Thread: 2023-2024 season

I feel bad for the Coyotes fans but the team had no home and none on the horizon, an owner who has come across as utterly incompetent the instant he acquired the team, no fanbase to speak of in terms of tangible numbers, players who hate Mullett and Salt Lake City ready to go with an owner willing to splurge, the certainty of a top-notch arena coming through and who can take them on immediately.

Of course this happened.

It sounds like it's really going to happen this time.

SLC is getting a young team with some high level talent (Keller, Cooley & Guenther), $41m in cap space and 20 draft pick in the first 3 rounds over the next 3 drafts.

They could get good fast just by spending some money and giving up some picks.

I hope it sets off a chain reaction that results in a 12 team contraction but maybe that’s just me….

Would never, ever happen, unless the NHL has twelve billion in cash on hand to payoff the buyouts. The NHL is an entertainment business first, above anything else, and cutting teams cuts revenues. The NHL would have to payoff the owners equity in the teams while having a much lower revenue.

To be fair the NBA team is still called the Jazz from their original days in New Orleans. So maybe it’s an Utah thing to just steal shit because they have nothing of their own.

Nah, others do it as well, i.e. Los Angeles Lakers originally from Minnesota Lakers, Philadelphia Warriors went to Golden State (San Francisco), St Louis Hawks went to Atlanta, San Diego Rockets went to Houston, just to name a few.

Remember the Balsillie fiasco? Maybe Bettman and the board should've just shut the f*** up and approve the move. They would've saved dozens and dozens of millions. But at the same time, I realuze that they would've set a precedent of an owner just forcing their way into the league.

Yeah that might almost be as good as the modern day cheat code new owners can purchase with their expansion franchises.

TSN 1200 ripping into Chabot about how he's been in the league for 7 years and hasn't taken that next step, mainly referring to his horrendous defensive play.

Now they're going after Chychrun
Said it more than once the Sens will never win with Chabot as their supposed #1 Dman.
I hope this lesson is learned by us with a player I won't name because I'm turning over a new leaf.

TBH I think DJ Smith ran Chabot into the ground as he was way overused in the last couple of years due to shallow D. He looked so good before

if you mean Matheson then yeah, that's a foregone conclusion. if you mean Guhle, then i think he can be the guy as part of a defense by committee
