Huberdeau has been benched for the first 15 minutes of the 3rd period.

Was benched the entire period. They had a close up of him and the guy looked miserable, hanging his head. Totally defeated. But the Flames looked much better without him and took it to Nashville the entire period. Wouldn't be surprised to see him scratched the next game.

I watched the entire Sharks game (I have a problem). They're terrible. Like Philly is bad and Blackwood had to stand on his head. I don't see how they win 10 games.

Same. Blackwood was absolutely stellar in that game. You put that kid on the Oilers and that team probably has a winning record right now.

Sharks are really, really, REALLY bad. Worst defense I can remember seeing in the NHL. Maybe I've seen worse? But if I have, I can't remember it. It's not an effort problem, either, those guys actually play hard. It's like 20% coaching and 80% just not having any talent whatsoever on the blue line or in the bottom six.

Man, Huberdeau does not want to be in Calgary.

Look there was some of us that crapped on Huberdeau, @Jean Luc Discard leading the charge there.

But holy shit he was never this bad, even at his worst or rookie season he was better. Guy is in his prime years too. Yes he made dumb passes sometime when he played for us but this??? Guy is Timbits level out there.

You only take a dive like that if it’s a complete systems mismatch, a injury, or psychological. I’m thinking it’s the latter.

Can’t really move him either with that contract. Yeesh.

Yeah, have watched most calgary games and he's a flat out liability. Can't win puck battles, can't pass, never shoots. Basically can't do anything atm. Even worse than last year so far. I've never seen him play worse, and that's including his last playoff run with us.

Combination of mismatch and psychological imo.

Ofc Huby wants to be in Calgary because why else he signed an eight year deal with them?

I tried to tell you about why Huby is a major liability but you guys wouldn't have none of that because to you he was God's gift to playmaking who had some minor flaws to his game but were largely exacerbated since they had no effect to whether the Panthers lost or won games because of those flaws.

All these excuses for his play just makes him look even worse because they are attacking his professionalism. First it was Sutter and Tre not giving him the best possible circumstances to succeed, now it's still X's and O's, psychological issues, injury related, etc. If this dude with no track record showed up on the Panthers, or any other team's, training camp on a PTO, he'd be released on the first day.

Huberdeau has to be a lot more defensively responsible and mindful with the puck in Calgary, much like he'd have to be much more defensively responsible and mindful under Paul Maurice.

Realistically, he's never gonna put up 115 points again, not even if he somehow gets traded to Nashville to play under Brunette and given a green light to just go try to score points. The Panthers scored 340 goals in 2021-22. Nobody had done that since like the '96 Penguins, and I don't think anyone's gonna do it this year... or the next... or the one after.

I think he could be a PPG player again under ideal circumstances with power play time, but that's assuming limited defensive responsibilities and again, the key phrase 'ideal circumstances,' which will not exist in Calgary.

His confidence is shattered, it's so obvious when you watch him. I never was the biggest fan but one thing you could always say was that he is an elite playmaker and passer, now he can't even do that. It's so far removed from what he used to be. And if you take those parts away from his game, what's left? Nothing really.

Agreed, but that's not going to happen during this season because he's a superstar making superstar money. Why would he need to make changes? The coaching staff isn't going to tell because even Quenneville mentioned that Huberdeau needed to become better defensively and he didn't improve in that category at all. I'd reckon that Walsh is going to tweet something about the CGY org not proving Huby something and they'll proceed into the next season with the same setup like Huby's just had some bad luck. Inertia is a real thing and it's going to take three years and a buyout before Huby finds his happy place.

Well the coach said “Huby had an off night so we went with who looked to be going”.

That sets it up for Huby to come back and prove he can at least pick up some non-primary assist points like Barkov… :sarcasm:

Smart move. Why should he let the media know
