Huby situation keeps getting worse. I read he was benched in the 3rd period last game

He's used to it. iirc Q didn't let him play in a 3rd period once or twice.
Huby wanted to be the man driving the offense and now he's living the dream I'd reckon.

I know already what Hubs fans out there want to tout... "Huby's a totally misunderstood artist, he's not used to this kind of treatment, he deserves top line minutes and linesmates no matter what the situation..."

Calgary has major league problems but he honestly looks like a 4th liner (or worse) now. I watched last night's game and the Heritage Classic and he was noticeably bad in both of them.

They have no leadership on or off the ice. Heck even Gudbranson would've been a smart choice to bring back from 2 years ago just to keep in that role and have some grit in the lineup, despite his numerous faults. At least he thrived there for a bit.

Calgary should have gone the Dale Tallon route and shot one of the hostages instead of firing Sutter. That's my opinion, looking in from the outside. Sutter seemed a good coach who squeezed a lot out of his players, the issue there I think is personnel. Kadri + Huberdeau genuinely look like they got paid and don't care anymore.

Last season they really weren't a bad team, just that Markstrom was legitimately pretty awful in net.

Flames fan in peace, from people who watched Huberdeau for the past decade, can I get an honest opinion of the player, because he looks completely lost these days out there. In my opinion he is in his own head and that's why he is struggling so much, I don't feel like his effort levels are low. At the end of last year he was probably our best player, but I can't really remember it now since this season has been so tragic.

The entire Flames fanbase is just becoming miserable (not HF necessarily, just in general) about him and we have him for the next 8 years (Flames muppets want him bought out after 10 games into his contract, to get an idea of how miserable Flames fans are).

He was never really a puck carrier, a defensive effort guy or a board battler or even a shooter.

What he always excelled at was setting up scoring plays. You put him with guys who can make space for him and shoot the puck, and he'll figure out how to get the puck in a dangerous position. Great vision, great at cycling the puck, very patient and creative.

But what I really think the problem is is that Calgary plays a more structured and, uh, balanced game than we saw under the Panthers with Boughner and then Quenneville/Brunette. I know that sounds stupid, but it's just how I see it. IMO, Huberdeau can still produce a lot of points in a more free-wheeling environment where he can concentrate on creating offensive plays with strong linemates.

From that, to tell you the truth, I think he would be having similar struggles here in Florida with Paul Maurice, even if he was still lined up with Barkov or Bennett.

In all honesty, I don't really have anything optimistic for you. That's just an awful contract. I'm happy to see that Weegar is doing well, though. I think the change of scenery and move to a less aggressive scheme was a huge benefit to him. Wish we had that Weegar back.

Huby was great for us overall and even though some don’t have high opinions of him here, I still have high admiration and respect for him and his time here. With that said, there were many times where he appeared disengaged to me. Obviously the reasons for that would be unknown to us fans but you could tell that his intensity had disappeared and his production would suffer because of it. Very rarely did I think he was unlucky when he wasn’t producing. He was either on or he wasn’t.

I haven’t paid much attention to his play in Calgary but if I were to hazard a guess he could be having a hard time adjusting to things. But I do think if he had his passion reignited he could be that star winger again. Just my two cents. I hope he’s able to turn things around.

Huberdeau was never a line driver. Just a very skilled complimentary winger. Think Taylor Hall/Phil Kessel - someone who could play at a high level with good players. But these guys are never the engine of the line. Huberdeau always needed Barkov or Bennett to do the hard work.

Calgary signed Huberdeau not only to drive a line, but to drive an entire offence. It just was meant to fail from day one.

He also is a terrible fit for the Calgary style of game that is happening, but that is another issue.

The guy just isn't that good. And that isn't to say he's bad. He just isn't "him" as the kids would say.

McDavid missed some games, still clearly isn't 100%. Bad goaltending, and their blue line is real suspect, IMO.

Dallas has just collapsed in the third period. Think Edmonton can definitely win this, the Stars have absolutely nothing in the tank. Can't skate or do anything, being caved in as hard as you'll see.
