There is absolutely no reason whatsoever for the Senators to leave Ottawa.

However, I keep hearing QC as a relocation option and I keep wondering how the heck you get the Habs to agree to split their market share. QC is not a vacant market, it's part of Montreal's "territory" (whether the fans there agree or not, that's how the contracts with the league see things!) and that territorial concession is worth millions per year to them.
I am from Quebec City and it would make no sense to move a team from Ottawa here.

Ottawa is the capital of Canada and has 75% more people in its metro area than Quebec City. There is more money in Ottawa as well and it is already a well established team.

I am all for a return of the NHL in Quebec City but it won’t happen to Ottawa’s expense.

QC is part of Montreal’s TV territory but they are not part of the protected territory where Montreal has any say over another team playing there. That’s limited to a 50 mile radius. Or at least that‘s my understanding.
It's a 50 mile radius around each arena location's city limits I believe. (It's about 150 miles between the two cities).

The owner of the Sacremento Kings came to Ottawa to see the rink and meet people.

It is crazy how much interest they are drawing. This bidder wasn’t even on the radar a week ago.

Interesting. The man is Vivek Ranadivé. Originally from India, now seems based in California. Obviously owns the Kings, but also put in a bid for Chelsea FC last year.

Seems more like he would just want to own the Senators in Ottawa - can't see it as a relocation play. But there are no non-Canadian owners of Canadian NHL franchises, so it would certainly be an interesting move.

What a disaster this would be. Thankfully I don't really see it happening.
Why not? It depends how big a cheque he (or anyone else) wants to write.

Holding pattern. NCC BOD meets today (the folks who control the land talked about for new arena/development).

No deadline announced for final bids.

On the plus side, due to a few factors (namely a competitive team and a clear path ot ownership that was not despised in the city), attendance in Ottawa was very strong this year. Sentiment would indicate its likely to keep trending up. Very good news for a new buyer especially as it puts more pressure on the NCC to allocate more land and a better offer if they wish to entice a new downtown building.

There are only so many sports teams to go around in NA and there more than enough billionaires who want to be sports owners. With giant media contracts and revenue sharing it’s also often a profitable toy (or at least not one that will bleed you money).

Totally expect Senators to get $1 bil+, although not sure an American owner can get it done.

Wow. Over a billion from the Remington/Reynolds camp. Melnyk paid what again? Like $67M? Quite the profit for the daughters.
He got the team and arena for around 90 million or so. He complained about losing year-to-year income while the value of the franchise was skyrocketing, as almost every franchise does. The issue was that he used an NHL team as a primary revenue source after his othet ventures failed. His claims were pretty misleading.

Reynolds/Remington are really playing this right as suitors. They’re willing to include other partners, have met with the mayor, and are the only bidder so far that have met with the First Nations group regarding Lebreton. Considering Reynolds’ clout and his marketing appeal, it’s hard to see them not getting the team at this point, but who knows?

At end of podcast, Friedman mentioned there had been some discussions of groups merging, but that fell apart recently.

Thought this was interesting from the article, sounds like this whole idea is about way more than just the Sens and they're trying to turn Ottawa into a premier entertainment spot in Canada

"Snoop certainly checks those boxes and could help the Sparks group generate revenue in a downtown arena by attracting concerts, festivals and other events using Snoop’s connections in the entertainment industry. One of the goals of the Sparks group is to figure out ways to monetize the arena as an entertainment venue on the 300 nights when the Senators aren’t playing an NHL game."
