2nd round...minimum bid to be taken seriously seems to be $900m, some initial bids came in below that. One bid rumored to be $925m.

man, that seems high relative to the Pitt and Nas sales over the past year and a bit which came in at $800 mill and $750 mill. And in neither of those 2 was an arena needed to be funded as well.

Zero chance. It was reported earlier two conditions of the sale was (1.) no relocation and (2.) having some sort of plan involving LeBreton flats.
Random "conspiracy theory speculation" question...

Given that there are multiple bids...if the league ever did expand again and wanted to consider a Toronto2 bid- whereever in the GTA that would land- could this Senators process inadvertently lead to someone who could front that bid in the future? (In other words, they pick a Sens buyer and that's all well & great....but they also make a note of other bidder(s) they like and say "well....in the unlikely event that we were looking for someone to get another NHL related real estate program going on in Ontario in the future, would you be interested?.......")

I ask this conspiracy theory question knowing full well Roustan has been tied to TO2 interest in the past but I actually expect his group to be the Ottawa frontrunner. My memory is highly unreliable but I seem to remember the scuttlebutt of the time was that the league was really surprised no expansion bid for TO2 was formally placed when LV & QC did.

Even if expansion bid is ~$1B, may need double that for territory indemnity to TML plus new arena or upgrades to existing.

Oh, I don't doubt that it would be challenging (as discussed in numerous threads on this board, I'm sure), I just wonder with that many bidders if the league ever (collectively) says itself "keep these names in mind in case of future projects..."

League tracks all interested parties.

Next issue to solve may be Coyotes relocation if voters reject referendum in May.

The price tag of that would be in the $2B range when all is said and done. I doubt any of the current groups bidding for the Senators could front that when adding on the unrelated cost of a brand new arena in the Toronto metro area.

Nashville was valued at $900 million in their sale, so was Pitt
Sale hasn’t completed yet. Valued at 775 last year at start of sale , climbing to 900 by the time the sale is completed in 2 years from now, 4 payments to made over that time.

This addendum adds little, in my opinion

For the purposes of the deal in place with that former governor, the full purchase price at the time of the deal's completion is $900 million.

Yes and the deal won’t be finalized for 2 years, that’s why at start of sale value is 775, but increase in teams value over 3 years until deal is finalized grows to 900 million. So yes in July 2025 dollars it’s 900 million.

So Nashville was still valued at $900 million in their sale, as I said originally.

Did we really need 4 extra posts to say what I already did

Yes in July 2025.

775 at start of sale, and they have it increasing at about 40 million a year , up until deal is finalized. The sale is not finalized yet , since money hasn’t been paid in full.

So in 2023 it’s around 815 value. It’s not hard to follow.

Public money for an NHL arena is an absolutely disgusting abuse of public funds, no matter where it happens. The city, like many others, is in a state of atrophy. There's a housing crisis, resources are such that it takes days to clear sidewalks after a storm, and the biggest infrastructure project in a generation remains a mess of epic proportions. Sutcliffe opening the door on this is appalling, as was Garrioch's typical bootlicking praise of anything that could benefit Senators ownership.

This is a bit wild. According to Brent Wallace, the highest bidder so far (Neko Sparks' group) includes The Rock and is backed by the Reuben family out if the UK (part-owners of Newcastle). He also speculates that Reynolds could join that group if Remington doesn't get the team.

Also the Kimel bid has Sundin as their hockey advisor.

Believed to be 6 groups in 2nd phase of sale. Could.be touring facilities this coming week.

Bettman and Daly in town Monday on annual tour, will be talking with Mayor, perhaps laying groundwork for development around/for new arena.

Wow. Of all the teams the sens are attracting a lot of glitz and glamour.

Just a face. Combined they aren’t able to afford but a fraction of the team.

But it’s wild how much they are going for. Pens have their arena and so do the Preds (great lease). Sens, likey have to put up the entire $600 mill plus for a new arena on top of the price tag.

Sens buyer will get the arena and land. If they demo the arena in a few years, it still Sits on over 60 acres of land. There is value out there to commercial or residential developers, maybe a business park.

We will see what is included in the final sale. I imagine the daughters want to sell everything off in one shot. But, They can always keep the arena until the new owners build the new one. But cleaner for them to unload it all as it can take a few years before the Sens build a new arena downtown. Only reason to still have the arena as a sports venue would be for the Sens.

So Bettman says LeBreton Flats is not big enough for his NHL needs.

Typical Gary.

He's pretty well said the following to Ottawa...

Gary: 'Sorry, Senators, but when it comes to where the team plays next, the site is picked by me and ONLY me, and the arena design is ONLY drawn up and built by MY people. I don't involve local design firms in any step of the project, because the project is ONLY going to be built to the standards I like for ME. And those at Ottawa's City Council are not free to reject my business plan. They vote for my plan with no dissents and no meetings among themselves. So, you either build MY project where I tell you to build it and how, or the Senators are relocated to the U.S. city of MY choosing. End of discussion.'

I'm pretty sure that's the height of arrogance, and a sign that Gary's stayed at the party for WAY too damn long.

I'd be raising hell on Bettman for this, if I was a proper Sens fan.

Get in his face about it, and shove it down his throat. o.o
