No they won't.
When there are multiple parties bidding on the same sought after commodity the price always gets out of line. In this instance what do the Devils need more an elite goalie like Marky or the prospect 10OA will bring? Get Marky and get back to the playoffs.

Markstrom has a full NMC. We've heard he was willing to waive for NJ, but have no idea if that would be the case for Ottawa or Toronto. I doubt he'll just waive to go anywhere just to get out of Calgary. That alone will bring down the acquisition cost as Calgary's options will likely be limited.

Fitzgerald has been building this team for the long-run. He received an extension this past season and his job is not remotely in jeopardy. The #10 pick brings a very good cost controlled player into the fray that could be valuable on a contending team. More important to build for a Cup run versus just getting back to the playoffs.

Under no circumstance does including the #10 overall pick for 2 years of a 34-36 year old goalie make any sense. The value is just not there for that pick. If NJ can't get a deal done with other assets then they should just move on.

Markstrom is an above average starting goalie capable of excellent years. He certainly isn't an elite one. That word gets tossed around far too easily

Marky gets the Devils back to the playoffs. The 10OA doesn’t. Devils need to have a good season. They are competing with a lot of entertainment options for people in that area.

Nobody’s doubting that the Devils need to have a good season and to do that they need a more reliable goalie than they’ve got.

What’s in question is whether Markstrom is the guy. To me he’s the backup plan to the backup plan. If they bust on attempts to get Saros and Ullmark and maybe even Binnington, then they circle back to the older guys like Markstrom and (not technically old but a lot of miles and well past his best-by date) Gibson. It’s not a foregone conclusion yet that the only options right now are Markstrom or Status Quo. There are other possibilities.

Sorry Flames fans but Markstrom isn’t getting a 1st at full salary.

There needs to be significant retention or a bad contract coming back.

NJ might be able to do a top 15 protected 2025 1st with 50% retention.

Toronto could do 23OA with 50% retention.

Ottawa could do 25OA with 50% retention

Ottawa could also do 7OA + 25OA + Korpisalo for Markstrom no retention + 9OA.

I’d think Toronto is the best deal for the Flames.
You have no idea what you're talking about.

Especially when it comes to Korpisalo. But you might want to look in on the trade that was stopped by Flames management at the deadline before you start with this ridiculous lack of knowledge.

Markstrom seems to be plan A for the devils, which is fine.

Frank did say yesterday though that devils don't really have a preference and they are mostly just good with whichever guy on their list they can get at their price though. I'm not sure how much I believe that though. They clearly are very interested in markstrom

Why exactly do the Devils "need" to have a good season?

The goal has always been to build a Cup contender. It would be extremely poor asset management to include the #10 overall pick in any deal for Markstrom. Not gonna happen. Zero chance.

As a sens fan the only goalie I want the Sens to give up resources for is Ullmark, I don't want a 35 year old Markstrom and the Sens have way too many holes.

I want Green fired like this franchise makes bad decision after bad decision and Markstrom would just be another one.

Depends on which markstrom shows up. 2 of the last 4 yes, 2 of the last 4 no
Huh did you watch him? He's clearly better than Allen lol, unless you are going strictly off numbers. Not many workhorses better than marky, I have him and oettinger in a similar tier right now

Yeah, the Flames and Devils just need to get the trade done lol. Unless Markstrom has 3-4 teams he will waive for and the bidding gets dumb then he will get a late 1st.

I mean weren't devil fans impressed by jake allen? Marky will be elite compared to him
I don’t even know what this is supposed to mean? No one was calling Allen anything resembling “elite”.

Allen is a backup goaltender. If that’s your point of comparison, no wonder you’re throwing around crazy adjectives like “elite”.

I seen how excited devils fans got after 2 or 3 good allen games lol, markstrom is on a different level is all I'm saying, not sure how it's debatable. Markstrom is elite compared to Allen and you were happy with Allen. Still hard to follow along?
