On salary increase alone I think its starting to concern the league and it would not be shocking if we start to see a salary cap come in very soon.

The NASL's entire selling point to new owners is that, unlike MLS, it is modelled on the rest of the world's soccer leagues...aka little to no league interference in club business. There is no way in hell we see a salary cap in this league. The Cosmos alone would walk out if it was brought up.

Outside of N. American pro sports leagues it is a very dog eat dog world unfortunately. We want to win, we have to spend. Will be interesting to see if OSEG takes into that philosophy or leaves us out to dry.

The Cosmos while does pay big money to some players what they don't do is pay players well over value what Miami and to a lesser Tampa is doing should and likely is concerning the league as a whole.

So who is pumped for Wednesday?

Hopefully we don't mess this up. Would be great to see how we compare to the Whitecaps. Would be great for the team's visibility too.

Likely wouldn't be the full-strength Caps. Look at the teams they fielded against Edmonton last year -- practically their U-21 team. None of the MLS teams take the competition seriously until the final

Their loss. CONCACAF carries much more prestige internationally than an MLS or NASL title. Even just getting into the group stage would be incredible.

Edmonton was a goal away from beating Vancouver a year ago. I bet we could do some damage.

If Ottawa sells say 15,000 tickets before the game I think there will be some pressure on Vancouver to send a decent team.

Ottawa has to win first before we can think of Vancouver. I'm surprised i have'nt seen or heard anything about wednesday's game.

Fury have 3 games at home in the next 9 days.

May 18 Edmonton Amway Cup 7:30pm
May 22 Jacksonville NASL 2PM
May 27 Fort Lauderdale NASL 7PM

More injury woes for the Fury, add Rich Balchen to those injured most likely out until end of spring season,Julian de Guzman is “touch and go” whether he will be ready before the end of the spring season. Gerardo Bruna also out until end of spring season.
So Fury are missing, Balchan, Porter, Venter, de Guzman, Bruna, Dyego. Venter and Dyego are out for the whole season.
Also De Jong and Vered only signed for spring season.
So out of 23 players, only 17 are considered fit and 3 of those are goalies, and 3 games in the next 9 days at least they are all at home.

Isn't that the reason we have a Fury Support Club in Ottawa Footy Sevens? The Fury can just grab a couple of our players haha.

But really, we could just use some of our Fury DPL players, no?

Might carry more prestige internationally but MLS teams have yet to make past the first stage.

Also these games aren't nearly as big revenue drivers as MLS league play and ultimately that's the difference maker

CONCACAF Champions League? Montreal made the final last year.

Montreal also made a miracle run to the quarter finals back in 2008-2009 while playing in USL First Division (a league that eventually split to become both the NASL and USL of today).

Would be crazy. But after Leicester's run, anything is possible. ;)

Hey just FYI since moving to Columbus I've been watching the Columbus Crew SC games and really enjoying it! If your get anything even close to that up in Ottawa it must be really fun to watch. What's the report attendance like?

Main glad to hear you are enjoying the soccer, Re. the attendance here in Ottawa, we have only had 3 home games so far, the opener we had 7,023 in attendance, next game 4,317 and the last game which was not a NASL game but a Amway Canadian Championship game against Edmonton and the att. was 3,946. The Fury won the 2 game on aggregate 3-2 and will now play Vancouver Whitecaps of the MLS, i would hope we get a crowd of at least 10,000.

Might have been better if the game was against Montreal or Toronto in attracting the casual fans (even though Drogba wouldn't play on the carpet) but hopefully there will be a big marketing push for this game. It's a good thing we got the first leg here though.

Tickets on sale now.

not too impressed with the attendance at games. where are all these so called soccer fans?

If we can't muster up more than 10,000 for probably the 1st or 2nd best team we've ever faced (other being the Rangers in the first season), i'm concerned.

7000 is pretty good considering the quality of soccer we are watching. Considering the skill level is comparable to the 3rd division "League One" in England, attendance is fairly comparable to 70% of their league.

When the Toronto Lynx played in the predecessor of the NASL, their attendance was abysmal. Even in Montreal, the Impact were around for 10 years before they broke 7000 in average attendance. If we could average 7000, that would be great
