Yes the Whitecaps are 'my' MLS team.

Anyways, I lived in Langley for a year, and went to a number of matches at BC Place, and absolutely loved the team and the atmosphere.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching the Fury when their on, and going to matches at Lansdowne, but aside from BPL on Saturday and Sunday mornings, and the occasional Bayern Munich match...there's no other soccer team I make a concerted effort to go out of the way and watch other then the Whitecaps.

My hope is one day(in the somewhat near future) after steady growth, and popularity with the Fury....that OSEG lands an MLS team.

Meh the MLS is pretty opn par with the NASL in the talent department.

I also hope Ottawa beats Edmonton. Would be funny to watch all the wannabes get upset when the Fury beat the Whitecaps ;)

Uh, no, it's not.

MLS teams have a $3.6M base salary cap, along with three 'Designated Players' who only count for $50k against that cap.

I know for a fact that the majority of NASL teams' salary budgets are below $1.5M. Excluding the Cosmos, who overpay and function in a totally different transfer market than any other team in the league, I'd say the average is probably between $800k and $1M.

The calibre of play isn't even close; in US Open Cup and Can. Championship 'cross-over' events, MLS teams wipe the floor with NASL teams. Hell, MLS's minor-league affiliate USL went undefeated against NASL teams last season.

I don't mean to NASL bash, because I love the league's unique approach to N.A. soccer, but the NASL is so far removed from MLS in every way. Off-field structure, attendance, on-field calibre...night and day.

As for Fury this year: I don't think anybody is surprised to see this team where it is. Lots of new faces, almost an 'expansion 2.0' season for them. The team's budget is in the lower-third, even lower-quarter of the league, and Dalglish would do well to have them playing .500 soccer and on the outer fringe of the playoff picture.

With the way the Whitecaps are going this year, could be a cakewalk for us to the Canadian Championship.

Today's game is important in more ways then one. Seems that Peiser thinks the Fury need to play with more urgency.

http://ottawacitizen.com/sports/loc...o-survive-position-keeper-romuald-peiser-says

It’s early in the season, but we are getting close to do or die,†Peiser said following a workout in preparation for Sunday’s road game against equally scuffling FC Edmonton. “The train is gone and, if we want to get it, we are going to have to do something strong. If we don’t win quickly some games, we are going to be in big trouble for the playoffs. We need to start this weekend, at least get a point in Edmonton. We need to realize that.

“It’s like an animal. When he is injured, he has to fight to survive. We’re in that position already.â

Most would not agree with that the Nasl is closer to the Mls then you seem to think.

Fury are down one and the unfortunate thing is that this year the Fury don't seem to have anyone who can score a goal.

Lost 2-0, i think they had one shot on goal the whole game. Why do theykeep passing the ball backwards and nearly always to Alves, he does'nt have the skill to dribble out of trouble. Alves is great with the head and tackling but his foot skill is lacking.

Brutal game to watch. Nothing going for the Reds last night. FCE just seems to roll through us year after year as well which sucks. Hopefully we can turn things around in the Amway Cup.

Not sure why anybody is surprised Fury are a last place squad. Tons of roster turnover (3 of the 4 defenders that made the team the best defensive unit in the league in 2015), new coach with a checkered track record (two losing seasons in minor-pro soccer), and lots of internal shakeup. Factor in the crap CAD, and it's really not a surprise.

One goal through four games, and the worst goal differential in the league. Very curious to see how this will affect the team's attendance, especially considering league attendance is down almost 40% this year.

I've accepted having lower expectations this year, I'd just like to beat Edmonton in the Cdn Championship and get a game against an MLS side. If we could do that, I'd consider this season somewhat of a success. Kind of unfortunate that they only turned things on last year after losing out to the Eddies.

Yeah, attended a couple matches last year but definitely going to pay more attention to the Fury this season now that King Kenny's son is in charge and Grobbelaar being on the coaching staff for a couple seasons now. LFC connection fully established. Just need our own Aldridge, Carragher or dare I say it Steve G ;)

Gorgeous goal by Chin seconds after I badmouthed him for being a USL washout.. oh well I eat crow.

Incredible crowd today. The place was packed and the fans were rabid. Noticing a ton more Fury jerseys and apparel around. Feeling like the team is picking up some steam!

Both again home and away, winner to play Montreal Impact or Toronto Fc

The 2016 Amway Canadian Championship again features Canada's five professional clubs, with the winner earning a spot in the 2017-18 CONCACAF Champions League. FC Edmonton will face Ottawa Fury FC in the preliminary round, with the home-and-away series set for Wednesday nights 11 and 18 May. The winner will advance to the semi-final phase, to be played Wednesdays 1 and 8 June against last year's Canadian champion Vancouver Whitecaps FC. In the other semi-final series, Toronto FC will face Impact Montréal FC. The two semi-final winners will then meet in the national final, to be played in the weeks of June 21 or 22 and June 28 or 29 (dates to be confirmed).

ON TO VANCOUVER!

Incredible game by the boys, one of the most complete games I've seen in the club's history. De Bellis looked very composed in net too despite so little previous playing time.

Can't wait. I firmly believe the Whitecaps are beatable.

Very exciting to hear that we'll be able to see the Vancouver Whitecaps live here in Ottawa next month in all likelihood. That match will likely be the first 20000+ attended soccer game at TD Place since the women's World Cup last year. :)

Biggest question for the Fury's, will they ever have enough players, currently they have 23 players on their roster, unfortunately 2 of those are out for the season, Venter and Dyego both suffered knee injuries in pre-season. Also currently out Porter, De Guzman, Bruna and Chin these 4 have missed the last 2 - 3 games or more.
Last night Ottawa only had 5 on the bench, this has happened a few times already this season. In the last 2 home games the Fury dressed 3 goalies with one of them listed as a defender.
Hopefully the 4 injured will be back soon, and it's good that the Fury dont play this weekend.
Also there is a very good chance that De Jong will be gone at the end of the spring season as he only has a 4 month contract and Dalglish has already said he does'nt think he can afford him. I also read somewhere that Vered only has a contract until the end of the spring season.

I think De Jong will be resigned where he might get loess then value for the rest of 2016 he will get more then value next year.
