:sensOttawa acquires: LD Ivan Provorov and RW Trey Fix-Wolansky

:cbjColumbus acquires: LD Jakob Chychrun and RW Egor Sokolov

The Senators get a durable defender that plays over 22 minutes a night in Provorov who is capable of suppressing shots that can be placed on the PK and smallish energetic competitive scoring AHL winger Fix-Wolansky.

The Blue Jackets get a good all around defender in Chychrun that can also eat minutes while also suppressing shots that could be an asset to the PP and big AHL winger Sokolov with decent hands in close and good shot.

Chychrun’s and Provorov’s contracts expire after the season as UFA’s.

Fix-Wolansky and Sokolov are no longer waiver exempt.

Make it Tarasov and your next two 2nds for Chychrun and Forsberg and we can call it a day.

Can even swap prospects or throw Sokolov in for free, too.

I would think Columbus does that pretty easily. I don't think Sokolov needs to be in the deal either. Seems more like shifting deck chairs on the titanic than a deal that helps one team or the other. Either way I would think both defensemen are moved by the deadline. Certainly Provolov as I don't see any way he is re-signed in Columbus

While I’m not opposed to the OP deal, definitely no deal to you. Columbus doesn’t need Chychrun longterm but does need Tarasov (and its picks). OP isn’t coming from a Columbus POV, either.

This makes little sense for either team. Chychrun is a guy you add to use his shot running your PP, which Columbus already has in Werenski.

Ottawa needs RD, which Provorov is not

Columbus doesn't need anymore PP defensemen, we need shutdown guys. We already have entirely too many players that should be on the point helping running the PP(and Zach isn't even the best one)

This is making a move for the sake of making a move.

Value is too much in Columbus's favor.

Also, given all their injuries the last 2 years, the Jackets need Provorov's durability.

We need a tough defensive d-man. Chychrun is very good, but we have Werenski, there are Mateychuk and Jiříček in the AHL, one of Severson/Boqvist. But defensive only Gudbranson.
Also Provorov is health, no injuries, no illnesses. It is very important.

Just out of curiosity, who is running the Blue Jackets power-play from the defense besides Werenski.

Reason I’m asking is due to the Jackets placement in the league last season at 31st out of 32 teams on the power-play with an abysmal 15.09%.

Chychrun could help with the PP considering he scored 14 goals last season.

Provorov is not a PP specialist when NHL coaches realize this the better off they’ll be.

Ivan just does not work on the power-play never has, he is better suited to be a penalty killer which is what Ottawa needs as they placed 29th out of 32 teams on the penalty kill.

Boqvist took over when Zach got hurt and our PP dramatically improved.

Jiricek is a PP specialist

Mateychuk could likely make the NHL and his play will demand PP time if he's on the NHL squad.

Chinakov will more than likely be one of the point options on one of the two powerplays

If Laine is still here, he'll demand a point spot.

First Chychrun >> Provorov. Not close

Second this does nothing for Ottawa, the idea of moving Chychrun is because they have too many LD already
If I want a defender in the offensive zone I pick Chychrun, if I want a defender in a defensive zone I pick Provorov.

It could be closer for team needs (see OTT & CBJ, PP & PK.

7 defensemen Kleven tips it in the LD favor Ottawa could always recall Guenette or Matinpalo if they need a RD in a pinch.

LD Sanderson RD Zub
LD Chychrun RD Bernard-Docker
LD Chabot RD Brannstrom
LD Kleven

RD Hamonic < buyout

Jiricek should be given more of a chance next season at the NHL level on PP2 i understand they wanted him to get more ice time in Cleveland last season but he should have gotten more looks at the NHL level then he did.

Mateychuk may go through the kind of season Jiricek just went though as Don Waddell is usually patient when it comes to developing young talent even though Mateychuk is a highly touted defender coming out of the WHL.

China is a good option for a shot sneaking down the boards probably better on PP1.

A one two punch of Werenski Chychrun could give defending Pkers fits.

Columbus has Severson and Gudbranson for defensive zone not sure how Bean fits in as a RFA in need of a new deal.

Our needs are actually the other way around. We need a shutdown guy, not more offensive defensemen.
Columbus allowed 298 goals against so it’s understandable why Columbus would be looking for a defensive defenseman, only the Sharks allowed more goals against.

Chychrun isn’t the best defensively either as he gave away the puck 73 times more than any other season in his career.

Some might point to Jakob’s corsi at even strength which kinda makes up for Chychrun’s lack of possessing the puck but Columbus can ill afford to have a defender turn over the puck that much in a season.

Provorov might not be what the Blue Jackets are looking for long term either as he’s not considered a shutdown player but more of an all around defender that should focus on being more of a shutdown guy, if that makes sense.

I guarantee you Provorov isn't the long term answer we want. He's basically there to keep the seat warm for Mateychuk and that's it. We don't expect him to stay past the end of this upcoming season. Possibly not even past the end of this calendar year.

Sens need a right D.

Either they're trading CHychrun for futures or they're trading him for an RD.

Deal makes no sense for ottawa based on value or need.

Columbus wants to swap Provorov for a pure shutdown D.

Ottawa wants to swap Chychrun for a right-side D.

Not really a fit.
