Not sure about that. What would be the cost of a Smith, Smyth, or Smith? The Battalion may have filled that void with an ‘04 jrA D. The middle six spot imo would be Veccia ideally.

Well, I wasn’t thinking you were looking for those types of players. I’m not sure that moves the needle enough to be considered top of the Conference, especially once a couple of the other teams start bulking up.

Was it Missy was off today or our boys were really on? Likely both. Nevertheless, a solid performance, after Friday's stingy but lackluster performance.

Pinneli is pure gold. If only for his own sake he were 2 inches taller.
Brady is fiesty and always shows up for a fight, even if he shouldn't.
Korbler has some speed and may get a chance to use it.
Who is Matthew Saari?

Stonehouse always seems to get under opponents' skin; how does he do it, and get away with it? What is he saying on the ice and why do people respond? And lastly, why isn't he in a fight every night? Maybe that's why Edmononton signed him.

Donoso was solid tonight. He was really good last night too except for one instance - and in a 2-1 game that's enough to cost you. But maybe for the team's sake this year we're better off keeping him.

One thing was VERY evident today. Mississauga is much bigger and very willing to use their size. Ottawa played a very small game. 67’s prevailed but Missy made them pay a price for it.

If Ottawa chooses to add a couple players, they need to consider some bigger bodies.

Maybe it doesn’t seem like much, but it fills the holes. The Battalion already have battle tested all-stars.

It's about time the OHL start to recognize Luca Pinelli a bit more. 17 goals in 18 games (so far) and it feels like it's just being overlooked. Time to put some respect beside #20's name
Actually, I hope the OHL does not show him any respect. Past teams have flourished because they felt they did not get the res[ect they were due and some of them have tanked reading the glowing headlines.

Not getting respected will make Pinelli work harder if he can.

He’s definitely had a good season So far. Does he get a little attention from team Canada? Maybe not this year but probably a decent chance next year.
I doubt it he was not invited to the summer camp only 67 invited was Stonehouse.

With injuries & now the flu moving through the team. We need to make some kind of transaction this week . We played with 17 skaters yesterday & Hilton only played 3 shifts & Brady only played a handful more. Basically ran with 15 skaters yesterday with a 3 in 3 coming up there won’t be enough legs to do it.

Rub some dirt on it and wrap it with duct tape!

This is one screwy year. I know we have another month to go but right now I wonder if we will have any sellers in the conference.
Petes are not quitting, and I am sure their fan base wants them to stay competitive.
NB seems to be holding on and playing competitively.
Sudbury who should be competitive re languishing with what has to be a bad dressing room and coach.

If NB and the Petes go for it then I think retoolling and staying status quo for us may be the right thing.

I know that OMG wants a center to replace Barlas but I think more and more that he might finish the year at that position.

I know we won that game against Mississauga but what I saw in that game I didn’t like very much. It brought back a lot of memories of last season. The 67’s can get pushed around quite heavily. Guys like Leskovar easily punish our smaller club.

Missy returns 21 players next year. What we played this weekend Is pretty much what we play next year. Keep in mind, they will add to that squad next season and are armed quite favourably to do so.

The 67’s get pushed around a little too easily. I know it is just one game but we saw the Petes do it last year too.

I really think we need to read the market, wait as long as possible and make a run this year if most teams remain somewhat status quo. I am not sure we are properly equipped to go into next season like we seem to think we are. If Kingston and Missy hold back this season, they will both be poised next season to push forward in a better way than Ottawa.

This is all assuming the goal is to win a championship, not just compete at a high level. If the goal is to simply compete at a high level then we can tinker a bit this year and next and be competitive.

Ottawa is currently 4th in the eastern conference, and I could see them being overtaken in the standings by Sudbury or maybe even Brantford or Kingston as the season progresses. I project them finishing 5th or 6th in the conference, assuming no significant moves are made between now and the deadline. That projection would hold even if we deal Stonehouse. That's more or less where I had them entering the season...so they've been disappointing in some respects, but tracking in line with my personal expectations for them.

MacKenzie returning (he's DTD) will certainly help, but as we've discussed ad nauseum on here the team lacks depth behind Gardiner/Pinelli and Lawrence/Stonehouse at forward, and behind Mayich/Marrelli/Mews at defense. I think Boyd should go out and get an OA centre on the cheap to help with the depth this season and help guide guys like Gerrior, Hilton, and Kelly along, but I'm starting to really feel this is a retooling sort of year and we'll ride it out with Barlas at 3C.

MacKenzie could very well steal a playoff series for us though. Would a 2nd round exit be a successful season for the 67s? I think it would, though my confidence in that statement would depend on what, if anything, is done to set the team up for a bigger push next year (i.e., dealing away Stonehouse or Donoso). The core next year (the three OAs, plus Gardiner, Pinelli, Uronen, Hank & Frank, Foster is fairly strong, but the challenges with quality of depth would remain. And the point made above regarding team size is a good one, and a continuing challenge. Despite not doing anything really wrong, Ottawa will find itself in a tough position this year and next imho.

I am torn this year because of the status of the league. I fear we may be giving up an opportunity that won’t be there the next two seasons after this. That said, if Sudbury blows their brains out at the deadline and another Eastern team decides to push in, then I don’t think this year would matter either.

I like the makeup of next year’s team. That is not the issue. I jsut don’t like the competitive landscape shaping up next year, at all. This is such a soft year around the league. Next year will be much more difficult, more like last season.

We still need to add a centre next season and won’t have an OA spot open to do it cheaply. That leaves a door open for an Import but we all know how flakey that option can be.

We are relatively small up front which is worrisome the deeper we go into the playoffs.

Keep in mind we also get the comp 1st next year as well.

If the 67’s were to trade Stonehouse and get two 2nds and two 3rds which may be tough in this market, the 67’s would be in a pretty good situation. With three 3rds in the 2024 draft, we could use one to acquire the OA centre. Effectively, we could flip the two Flint picks in 2024 to NB for Zito and then Niagara gets the two picks in 2025 as the conditions with NB. Effectively NB doesn’t get anything other than two picks this next draft instead of the 2025 draft but picks sooner are better than picks later.

Stonehouse out and Zito in. We benefit with more picks and positionally we have the centre we need. Guys like Dever, Gerrior and Kelly get quality ice to prepare for next season. 67’s maintain a solid level of competitiveness while continuing to restock the draft pick cabinet.

Kai Schwindt for a 9th round pick would have been a great pick up.

What’s up with that?
ok, I still do not see Sudbury as a power this year unless they get a new coach. They have the talent presently that they should be one of the top teams and have a pretty stellar PP. They don't even the Wolf fans are getting upset.
You can bring in any players you want and they can be as good as you want but if the coach is not respected and the team lacks chemistry you are just adding to the problem. Look at the fronts as my proof.

SO ENDETH THE SUDBURY RANT

Mississauga is going to be a powerhouse this year as well as next year and they really do not have to do any tinkering this year. Kingston loses 2 important pieces at forward next year Ludwinski and Hemstrom and Holme on defence.

The question though that I can't get my mind around is what are the Petes going to do. They are a powerful team right now.

See to me the challenge in our conference is that all but Niagara and Oshawa have the parts right now to be competitive in the conference. BUT I am not sure if they will be competitive in the finals.

As has been said on the Petes board they are getting good crowds with new fans at the games. do you blow up the team and lose them?

I think we are going to see just a little tinkering in the conference and only big deals from Oshawa and North Bay unless someone gets an Offer they can not refuse.
Ottawa to my thinking is building for a couple of years down the road s there is no way anyone is gong to be more powerful that Mississauga next year

Not sure we need another winger but I like his size and overall game.
how does another winger resolve our issues?

Beast, Kingston has something like 13-‘05 born.
The Steelheads had a hot start to the season with Sharpe scoring 7-8 goals over 8-9 games and Leenders with a 0.945 SV%. Since then the team is ~0.500. They are not a powerhouse.

For 3-5 picks, Miss could add Mayer and Kingston add Punnett. That could possibly get both home ice in round one, and meet in round two. With some luck, one could be in the conference final.
Ottawa could add Mayer …

Beast, regarding the Petes and their attendance from new fans….

If they choose to make a compete now decision in an effort to keep fans, they will lose them next year when they bottom out. They will continue to lose them for multiple years when the team battles Niagara for last place in the conference every year for the next 3-4 years. They have no picks, they’ve traded all of their ‘05 born draft picks of any value and would be unable to recoup picks starting next year because they won’t have much int he way of returning players other than a few OA’s. It is integral for the competitiveness of that franchise to sell now to avoid being a doormat for many years.

Kitchener went on a buying spree last year when they were in 8th place because it was their window to do it. Sudbury is in the same situation. If they don’t buy now, they will waste their cycle opportunity.

The rest of the conference is a “who knows?” What they will do. It is likely Kingston and Missy tinker on the fringes and each add a player. Same with Ottawa. NB may be added to that same mix But I am not as confident they will not sell a couple players and recoup some additional assets.

OMG67, you are probably right about the situation the Petes are in, but they won't be able to help themselves. They see themselves right now leading the Conference, lowest number of regulation losses in the league and with no one else looking all that scary. Peterborough has been starved for this kind of success since the end of the Dick Todd era. I just can't see a first place team selling even if the long term plan suggests that they should...

As hard as it is to imagine the Petes, even if they are in first place at the TDL, will be selling. I'm hoping the fact that the Petes are a top team will give Oke leverage when he does make deals.
