Gerrior's goal was one of those times when persistence and effort produce a highlight. Ottawa will have that clip in its season highlight package. Oshawa will be looking at it just as often, for a different reason.

It is unfortunate we are in that situation with Barlas. He is far more effective on the wing. This is another area we need to look at for OA…centre. If we free up Donoso’s OA spot, we could add a centre and a D-Man and round out the roster nicely. Gerrior can drive his own stat line off that line but Kelly is ineffective without a capable centre. I really want to see Kelly get the proper support with a capable centre. I think it is integral for his development.

Jsut a side note, Matier gets paid the same whether he is in the ECHL or the AHL. He has the two way contract NHL-AHL so he gets the AHL contract $$$ which is around $85k.
I agree Barlas may nt be the answer but I am not convinced that an OA is the answer. Yes, it fills a slot this year but then leaves us in the same position we were in to start this year with only 2 centers.

85 k american is still alot better than coming back here

Are you suggesting we acquire an 18 year old? If so, what is that cost? That won’t be cheap. Unless you are suggesting we simply eat the year with someone like Barlas and wreck Kelly’s development for a full year.

We can potentially fill that slot next year with one of Whitehead as a more mature 17 year old or an Import. Two options that don’t cost anything.

The OA this year is a potential low cost option to help the development of Kelly and Gerrior or whomever ends up on that wing. Next year is a problem for next year. We can’t solve next year’s problem by doing nothing this year. That problem still exists without adding a player. It is not like you are hurting next year adding an OA.

Additionally, if that player adds the depth necessary for them to get through an extra round in the playoffs, that is a net benefit for the whole team from an experience perspective.

As an OA, his contract can't slide. He gets paid even in the OHL

Interesting. I wasn’t aware of that one! If that is the case then Boucher is unlikely to come back to the OHL. I can’t see the Sens paying him his AHL salary to play in the OHL unless their assessment is that he is significantly better off from a development standpoint playing in the OHL. That is a bit of a PR headache.

Hello everybody! I'm a bit late to the party this year but here are my thoughts on the season so far.
1- record 9-4-1better than I thought after losing Beck /Rohrer( still sad about both). Makes you wonder where we'd be with those two? I was pushing for a reset year and that choice became easy with those two loses, however if they were still here I might have changed my mind as no clear beast in the O this year.
2- That being said am I the only one that thinks our record is better than it should be? Mckenzie has been stellar and thank god for Pinelli! The strenghts of this team is in goal, coaching, discipline and defensive compete. I am concerned about our lack of scoring depth which will get us if no other players really step up.
3- As for players that have impressed me and exceeded expectations I would name Mac, Pinelli, Dever, Hilton, Marelli Brady and Yes Horner. We knew Mac was good but wow. Where would we be without Pinelli? Dever is turning into a solid contributor...much better compete.Hilton is showing signs of good things to come. Good skater, soft hands and that size. Hasn't quite put it together yet. Marelli is our best D period! Brady as people have mentioned is showing top 4 potential. As for Horner I know people on this board have not shown him a lot of love but he's really come along lately and he could be an important part the next two years if given a chance although with our numbers on D he could be trade bait. Lastly H.M. to Dietsch...only two games but I like what I saw.
4-now players that have dissapointed. To me Donoso, Barlas, Ewles and Korbler have not met my expectations. I know it's hard to be a backup and get limited games but he needs to be better. Reality is Mac has outplayed him and I don't buy the excuse that he needs more regular usage to perform better. He's 20 y.o. so should be ready when called upon imo. I do agree though they need to move him to a better situation but until then help yourself and perform when you're in there.Barlas is miscasted as a center and even as a winger I've come to the conclusion he does not fit our highpaced style very well. Not a bad player and gives his all, but might fit in better elsewhere. Ewles is a third pairing guy imo as most have said. As for Korbler maybe I'm jumping the gun as he's a 17y.o. adjusting to a new life but just haven't seen much to excite me. I hope I' m wrong.

I am not saying we need an 18-year-old although if someone is giving one away, I would not be averse to taking a look.

What I am saying is that if the goal at the beginning was to restock draft picks and develop what we have, then unless it is for a later-round pick, we should be leaving things alone. Depending on what happens over Xmas I would not be surprised to see Whitehead given a chance at the 3rd line.

ONe option might be Donoso for an OA center.

Barlas should also be shopped along with Kelly. But the challenge is that if we move Donoso, then we have to replace Donoso. If you think we need to leave Nelson in Navan then where do we get the replacement?

I am not really worried about the playoffs most of these guys have been there and a couple of extra games will not make the difference.

A 5th round pick for an OA Centre to help the development of Kelly and advance the team‘s scoring depth while getting Barlas back to the wing is a multi pronged positive move.

I fail to see why you are so adverse adding an OA. We added Lawrence and he has made a tremendous difference and that cost was at an 8th round pick.

Unless this team is making a push for a top 4 pick and an effort to miss the playoffs, there is no reason to maintain a gaping hole at centre where the current vacuum is sucking Barlas and Kelly into it and killing any chance for those two to develop.

I don’t think there are many options available to get an overager for 5th round draft pick. The only players that would be available at that price would be Ethan Larmand in Sudbury or Nikita Tarasevich in Oshawa. Pasquale Zito would likely get a Connor Lockhart type return. All others available would be from teams selling and they would not trade a player for only a 5th round draft pick. They would likely keep them instead. The only other possibility would be if a team obtained an overage at the deadline and had to get rid of one.

I’d be fine with Larmand. 67’s only need a capable 3rd line centre that can move the puck around and be decent in his own end.

And played very well kept them in the game. Not on him but probably our worse game this year. Needs to continue playing like tonight to generate trade opportunities for himself.
