OK, we have shown that we are tough and not backing down. I think it is time to start playing smart hockey. We can not win games with single-digit shots on the net. Kudos to Oshawa for protecting their net.

Donoso tried but not sure the team plays for him.

I don’t think there are many options available to get an overager for 5th round draft pick. The only players that would be available at that price would be Ethan Larmand in Sudbury or Nikita Tarasevich in Oshawa. Pasquale Zito would likely get a Connor Lockhart type return. All others available would be from teams selling and they would not trade a player for only a 5th round draft pick. They would likely keep them instead. The only other possibility would be if a team obtained an overage at the deadline and had to get rid of one.
That was my thought pattern. If Sudbury is going for it I think that Larmand would be part of a package for another team.
Oshawa is not going to make a trade that helps us that would be completely out of character.

OMG, where do you see this center coming from?

Way to many penalties. Then again that is old Oshawa style.

Players will start moving around in a month or so. Keep our eyes open….

Absolute awful game, ì do think many of them looked like their hockey skills disappeared and they could not control their sticks. Oshawa looked much better even when we had a 5 minute advantage.

Not going to be easy tomorrow against Sarnia.

Cameron needs to set the d pairings and let them get used to each other.

The issue right now is the lack of scoring we can not get into games where the other team gets more than 2 goals.

This year we do not have the offensive weapons we have had in the past.

Let's face it when teams get on us early and play a fast paced offensive game we end up in trouble. We tend to panic and make very irrational plays and as a result nothing goes right.

The lack of offensive power is going to be an Achilles heel this season.

Goaltending has been our saving grace on many nights but watch out is this part of the game starts to diminish.

It is just one game where the team collectively had no jump in their step. It’s junior hockey. We see that a lot. Oshawa came out flying and kept the pressure eon the entire 60 minutes. Weker teams sometimes are able to do that and last night Oshawa did it and they came out on top.

This was not an issue of lack of scoring, it was an issue of effort. It started early when they had a very lazy 5 minute powerplay and it carried all the way through the game. Lazy penalties. When they are lazy, you see a lot more stick work and you get sent to the sin bin to feel shame.

All the signs of lazy effort were shown last night. Donoso did everything he could to keep them in the game but they never stood up for him.

Turn the page and carry on this afternoon with a better effort.

Last night it was laziness and frustration that did us in. They have to give a solid effort every night or the results will not be positive. We do not have the firepower to try to overtake 2 or 3 goal deficits.

Much better effort today. Sting played Thursday and Friday so no excuses for them to be flat today.

A good weekend for the boys. My thoughts:

Maybe it's normal in the OHL, but I don't like seeing an all-rookie 5 man unit play a shift. There was Horner-Brady and Hilton-Whitehead-Korbler a few times today. I guess with the score lopsided for us it was a what-the heck decision but still...

Good on Horner: second star today. Maybe it's handle-bar mustache power coming to the fore.

The combo of Mayich-Mews is a good one. It gives Hank a reliable veteran and license to roam and Mayich doesn't have to try to do more offensively than he should.

Donoso was on today in the third. Hope it's not bad news for Mack.

You are starting to see Ottawa piece it together. Still some gaps but mostly due to roster configuration rather than players not living up to potential. I think the team in general is maxing out their potential right now. As others have mentioned, MacK is keeping them in some games they would normally be in a coin flip BUT that is part of the roster config.

Pasqual Zito is still sitting out in North Bay. The deal last year between Niagara and North Bay included a conditional 3rd and 5th round picks. Presumably that is for him returning as an OA. So, you have to think North Bay will require at least a 3rd and 5th for Zito to break even on what they need to give Niagara. That is unless Zito decides to join North Bay. If he were to do that, the picks change hands and then it is a moot point.

Would Ottawa be willing to toss a 3rd and 5th plus maybe an additional 5th/6th for Zito? He would automatically slide into the #2 Centre role and solidify the middle for the 67’s.

The reason why I ask is it looks like the Petes are starting to flatten out a bit. A lot of OT games. They’ve traded Lockhart and are poised to lose Beck soon to Team Canada and then via trade after he returns. They are really struggling to score consistently. Missy is .500 in their last 10 Games. Sudbury seems like the only team other than Ottawa in the East on a rise over the last 2-3 weeks.

Ottawa won’t likley have anyone playing WJHC for any of the teams this season. They should ice a full team.

If Uronen is injured and out for the season, they could release him and pick up an Import. I don’t think they would but it is an opportunity they have to consider if they want to make a run this year.

I am not suggesting Ottawa chase down any of the big names but if the total of their trades equal two 3rds, two 5ths and a couple deeper picks plus maybe they help offset that a bit by trading someone like Horner, who knows. Maybe it is worth a bit of a gamble. Keep Stonehouse. If they are looking at competing, they likely have to keep Donoso as insurance.

Just tossing it out there. I only say this because the Eastern Conference is really not impressive and only one team is truly poised to make a big splash and that is Sudbury. We don’t play them again this season. We’ve taken care of games against Sault and Guelph. Only one game against London at home left. We don’t play Kitchener until after the deadline and they are expected to move some key players and recoup assets. Two against Saginaw. The schedule looks somewhat in our favour. Unless we hit some injuries, we should maintain a record around .667 or so, winning 2 of 3.

I’m still leaning toward selling off Stonehouse but if the market is soft and we keep Stonehouse, I think we really need to entertain adding a few pieces. If we don‘t move Stonehouse because the market is soft, it will be soft for us if we buy a bit off the discount pile.

The question was and stillis.

WHAT IS BOYD AND CAMERON'S GPA; FOR THiS YEAR.

If it is to restock the draft[pick cupboard then trade Stonehouse, Donoso and maybe someone else for what you can get.

If it is to maintain status then that is an option

There is no sense in trading for an OA to help us win and make the playoffs then in the next breath, we should trade Stonehouse.
I think that this team we have now is the team we will finish with minus Donoso and possibly Stonehouse.
That opens ice space for other players.

There are not any cheap options for OA out there.

a 3rd and 5th for Zio is ot stocking the cabinets it is costing us more than we need to spend.

We have had a good run I think it is time that we were satisfied with a 4-5 place team for one season so that we can rebuild the team instead of patching it with OA to make the playoffs

I’m pretty sure we can win the division trading Stonehouse. I think that is the point. If we can win the division trading Stonehouse and not adding much, what could we be if we keep Stonehouse and add two players on the relative cheap? I’m not suggesting that should be our direction but reading the tea leaves in the OHL overall, I’m not too sure this isn’t the possible year to fill a vacuum and make it work.

Don't forget that I am sure other teams are looking at the same thing. Kingston finally has a coach for the players they have. We knw they like to trade. the probelm is gong to be what is kitchenere doing. They right now are a really good team and I am not sure they are going to trade a whole lot.

mississauga may look better next year but they don't look too bad this year either.

Sudbury is a mystery they should be good but seem to have troubles in PP

Kitchener has one 2nd and one 3rd available for trade through 2027. They can’t do anything other than recoup assets.

Ottawa has five 2nds, five 3rds, one 4th and five 5ths over the next four drafts. They have some assets if they want to use a few.

Missy has tailed off. They could make a push but I think their management is disciplined enough to hold the course they are on. They could load up though. They do have the assets. They look so good for next year though. Plus they have all those 2025 2nds which will be like gold next year because they’d be in the draft after the season. They are worth so much more next year.

Sudbury is the team most likley poised to make a push. Six 2nds and seven 3rds. They will likely bring home one elite player like Beck or Nelson. They are the team to watch. Saginaw as well.

From what I have seen a quarter into the season the Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds and the Kitchener Rangers are the top two teams in the Western Conference and the best two teams in the OHL at this moment. Guelph and London are good teams but not in their calibre. Saginaw is a big disappointment but have player better as of late. In the Eastern Conference it is less clear. Mississauga and Peterborough are off to strong starts. Mississauga will likely stay the course other than acquiring a third overage and adding a veteran defenceman. The Petes will do a rebuild by moving to two or three players for younger players and draft picks. They will likely keep several of their 19 year old who could return as overages next year. They may move Sam Mayer for the right return but will keep both Jax Dubois and Cam Gauvreau. I now doubt they will trade a goaltender as Zach Bowen has struggled as of late. They will slip back a bit in the second half but will make the playoffs. Sudbury on paper is a good team but have not had the start that was expected. North Bay probably needs to go into a rebuild but will likely try to make a run. Oshawa and Kingston are wild cards as is possibly Ottawa.

In regards to Sudbury’s making moves they have the draft picks but are they willing to trade their good young players to make the required deals? The fans don’t seem to think so.
