Yeah but his stats in Komoka are not showing much might take a while to get ued to his body.

He skates well for a big kid. He will be a north-south winger for sure. If he can bang along the boards, crash the net and cover his responsibilities in his own zone, i will be fine with that. You can’t trade for size. You have to draft it and give it time to develop.

I think that is going to be the case next year i see him on the 4th line and depending on how he developes over the summer I could see him put on other lines to keep teams honest/

It is time for making resolutions for next year. I have been watching the "Talkin' Buds Leafs Show" today. That is very painful.

I resolve to not complain about the 67s leadership until at least the playoffs... if we get there. It will be hard to finish behind the Ice Dogs, but the rest is wide open.

I will try not dump on players, but mistakes happen.
But you're taking all the fun out of it...lol

Let’s look at that team next year:

Gerrior (OA) - Gardiner - Foster
Pinelli - Whitehead - Uronen
Yanni - Barlas - Dever
Hilton - ??? - Kelly
Houben - Korbler

Marrelli - Mews
Smyth (OA) - Ewles
Dietsch - Brady
Horner

MacKenzie (OA)
Nelson

That is not a Championship contender foundation. IF we sell this year, we sell again next year. Pinelli and Gardiner would garner a very solid return. We then build around our ‘06-‘07-‘08 draft classes. Our assets would support those years, but not next year.

That lineup doesn’t include any players we return in seller deals this year but the types of players we are trading are more likely to return draft picks rather than impact prospect players. We’d likely get a stronger player in the Pinelli deal.

EDIT:
I am not against your plan to sell this year. I think the market may be favourable to do so. I just think the expectation of a contender next year is not all that realistic. If they are a seller this year because they aren’t’ strong enough with all the 18 and 19 year olds, it is not ideal to consider the team to be a contender next year. If we can trade our way into contending next year, we can trade our way into being a contender this year. Either way, I think next year is a seller season.

I would add MacKenzie to your list. There are a couple contender teams that really could use an upgrade and with MacKenzie being a 19 year old, he’s an easier fit than an OA. We finish out the year with Donoso and Nelson. Get Nelson about 5-6 starts in the back half of the season, acquire a cheap OA goalie next year and give Nelson a full year as a backup.

We’d likely end up with two relatively high‘ish 1st rounders in 2024 and 2025 drafts. Add Marrelli and Mews to that mix as the leaders in 2025-26, and I think we could craft a really solid roster in 2025-26 and into 2026-27.
I am a bit confused on why you are suggesting we should sell for two years in a row and build around Hank/Frank 's 19 y.o. year. We will have lost most of our deepest draft in years in Pinelli, Gardiner and Foster. Then Mac, Gerrior and Mayich are gone too. Makes little sense to me for a few reasons. Our OA's next year project as stronger then two years from now ( Barlas, Dever, Ewles??). Then next year we have Pinelli, Gardiner and Foster who should be more dominant.
Now if we look at next years's roster that in your opinion does not have the foundation for a contender. First I assume Mayich is there as an OA so let's substract Smyth. Let's also assume a mini sell this year Stoney, Donoso and Smyth/Sirman ( maybe before next season for the latter rather then the deadline). So we have a decent cupboard.
Looking at our roster I think we can agree we have an elite goalie ( Mac), three top four D ( mews, marelli, mayich) and 4 top 6 forwards ( pinelli, Gardiner, Gerrior, Foster). I guess a case could be made for Uronen as a 5th but does he return and did he show enough to consider him a true top 6 on a contender🤷‍♂️?
We also have the makings of a solid third line with Barlas, Dever and Whitehead. Ewles and Brady can be an ok third pairing imo.
So we need a top four D (Preferably right shot), a top center, maybe a top 6 winger and ideally a third line center to bump Whitehead to the fourth line with Kelly/ Hilton. The top four D only needs to be a solid stay at home type as Mews/Marelli will drive the offence. So shouldn't be too expensive. Same with acquiring a third line center. That top center will be pricey unless they get an import. Either way I do think they need to upgrade on Korbler and even Uronen if they can through the import draft or trade. If they can fill one of top center or top four D through import draft we have plenty of picks and players ( Horner, Kelly, Yanni, etc ) to trade to fill out the roster. The year after is when you sell Mews/Marelli and restock.

They are small AF and won’t amount to anything special. They will need a front line centre and a top pairing D-Man. That is jsut to catch up to the competition before they make their additional acquitions. We will get bounced by bigger and stronger teams.

I thought Yanni was one of the better forwards on Saturday. Cameron must have thought the same. Moved up with Pinelli today.

I should have also said that if this team isn’t good enough to add 4 players to and make a run when the four players could be three OA’s and an Import which are typically much cheaper adds, then doing it next year when we won’t have an open OA spot isn’t realistic. Any additions next year will need to be expensive 19 year olds.

this is why I have always said, either we make the run this year when the competition is less stiff (with a sell off next year), or a two year sell off. Assuming this nucleus of a team being able to make a run next year while not being capable of making a run this year is not realistic. The roster makeup and age ranges make more sense this yer than next considering both rosters will need a significant additions to make it work.

Well I guess for now we'll have to agree to disagree, I still think next year is more feasible. In any case we should have an answer in the next ten days as to the direction for this year which likely will also tell us what next year will be as I really doubt they sell 2 years in a row. Will be a really interesting ten days as I really have no clue what they're gonna do.

By the way the 67s are playing, I wonder if Cameron is going to go all Killer and tear the strip off the wall in the locker room just to fire up this team in order to get out of this funk they are in right now.

I think Ottawa needs to get their heads out of their a?? and at least look like you are interested. Stupid passes, stupid penalties and no hockey sense. They can't forecheck or even play any kind of defense. They are making Kingston look like the high flying Oilers championship teams.

Not competitive at all. Just give the kids playing time in the 3rd.

That is most definitely not Cameron. He is all about "structure" and playing the system no matter the score. He has a Dick Todd vibe, but with a touch more emotion. Killer would have done it two games ago, after their second period collapse against NB. Second period today, 23 shots, 5 goals against. Sigh.

Let’s configure next year’s roster if we did nothing this season. I will leave the spots blank where we have the more obvious needs that cannot b appropriately filled internally for a Championship calibre roster…

Pinelli - XXX - Uronen (or replacement Import)
Gerrior(OA) - Gardiner - Foster
Barlas - Whitehead - Dever

Mayich(OA) - Mews
Marrelli - XXX
Dietsch - XXX

MacKenzie(OA)

That is the nucleus of next year’s team. I left the 4th line open because, well, who cares about the fourth line. We already have all three OA spots assigned. We need a first line centre and that centre needs to be a significant impact player. Gardiner is a good 200’ player but he is far from an offensive juggernaut. He is not a front line centre On a Championship team.

We also struggle with size up front which has been this teams downfall the last few years. Many of those forwards are 5’10”. The big skilled teams contain them effectively.

We have one player scoring at a point per game and he is a glaring -13 (Pinelli). We simply don’t have a first line returning. Even me putting Uronen into that first line is silly. It is very hard to draft and insert an Import into your top lines because so few of them come over to North America at 18-19 years old. The ones that are good go straight to the AHL. Expecting to draft one for next year isn’t realistic.

I would argue that the D-Man partner for Marrelli really needs to be our #1 D-Man If we want to be a Championship calibre team.

Realistically speaking, we’d need to add an impact #1 Centre, an Impact #1 D-Man and an Impact first line winger. We wouldn’t have an open OA spot so we’d have to acquire high priced 19 year olds. To get the Centre and D-Man of the calibre required, we will need to part with two of Dietsch, Whitehead, 2024 1st or our 2nd 2024 1st Comp pick in those two trades. In addition, we’d likely need to drain our high draft picks. Assuming our draft picks don’t change, we’d have five 2nds and four 3rds through 2028.

No matter who our competition is, that is what we would need to be competitive at a high level. That’s not even looking at other rosters. That is simply just assessing ours.

Just because we thought that next year lined up to be our year doesn’t mean that we close our eyes and blindly follow our strategy from last summer. Things change. The landscape changes.

IF we were to take that lineup for next year and pull it back to this year, it doesnt’ really change much. The needs don’t change much. They mostly remain the same. You plug Stonehouse into the first line RW. Plug Lawrence into he 3rd centre spot. Plug Smyth into the 3rd pairing spot instead of Dietsch. Then you acquire two OA’s and a 19 year old to cover the three open spots. It would be wayyyyy cheaper. If we are going to make a run with this roster, it needs to be this year. The conference is open. Then sell next year.
