Weird ...how does 2 team qualify for the playoffs with less points than the 67s....london & windsor
Are we seriously asking this question right now?

Man oh man.

Let’s just say
2 conferences top 8 teams in each conference make the playoffs.
London & Windsor are in the west
Ottawa is in the east

It will be a packed house today, and maybe the biggest game of the season for the 67s. Should be a good one!
Ottawa needs to tweak the PP to where it was before. Minty should be feeding Matier on left side. Beck should take Stonehouse spot down low and work with Rohrer.

The second PP gets no chance to produce anything over a 25 sec span. You have guys that have contributed all year and were best PP in league. Now they sit and watch.

67's win 3-2 in OT

GOAL 1ST 6:21 #4 Pavel Mintyukov (20) scores. Assists: #23 Will Gerrior, #16 Logan Morrison

Man oh man, where would this team be with Logan Morrison? He’s proving to be a very astute pickup by Boyd. Before his goal in the late 3rd I actually thought he struggled a bit today getting his shot on net, but obviously a very clutch goal at the end nevertheless.

I think Mintyukov is really starting to find his groove with Ottawa, and seems much more engaged offensively than he was a few weeks ago. Beautiful goal in the first. I also thought Rohrer, Constantini and Tolnai had standout games.

The teams were relatively evenly matched for a lot of the game but I thought Ottawa really carried the play in the 3rd before the NB goal. It was good to see a similar aggressive 67s style of play that was more common earlier in the season. Playing to win, versus playing not to lose. The 67s still have a lot of trouble clearing the D-zone and get hemmed in a lot.

The hooking call on Sirman that led to NB’s first goal was very weak. Mews and Marrelli were getting caved in in the D-zone almost every shift early in the game but found their footing as the game went on. It’ll be good to get Smyth back. NB’s goaltender was superb.

Boucher will be back on Friday against Windsor (overhead at the post game family day skate).

I agree with this, the PP (post trade deadline) has looked the best when Matier and Mintyukov are both on the ice and on their opposite sides. Rohrer plays well when he gets the odd shift on Morrison’s wing anyway and should be a fixture on the bumper on PP1. I like Stonehouse but Rohrer is more creative out there.

Don't forget that you need diggers and bangers on the PP as much as 5 on 5.
This team should have a 1a 1b PP getting equal time.
Mews and Marelli should never this year be a pairing. To be honest only 1 of them should dress for a game.

Putting minty and Matier on the same pp hurts the second unit.

I have also heard we will ice our best possible lineup for the first time against the WS

My opinion it will look like this or close to it

Jack Beck~Logan Morrison~Tyler Boucher
Luca Pinelli~Vinzenz Rohrer~ Cooper Foster
Brady Stonehouse~Cameron Tolnai~Will Gerrior
Chris Barlas~Brad Gardiner~Jack Dever

Matthew Mayich ~ Jack Matier
Pavel Mintyukov ~ Anthony Costantini
Henry Mews ~ Thomas Sirman

Out
Frankie Marelli
Gavin Ewles
Bradly Horner
Caden Kelly
Derek Smyth (Mono)

Really good game today. If these two meet in the playoffs it's gonna be a hell of a series. I did think we deserved the game and slightly outplayed North Bay. The key though is we won two close games this weekend against top competition. That's what we need before the playoffs not feasting on the weaker teams. Another big one coming up against the Spits.

I really liked Cameron Spotting Rohrer some time on right wing with Mo/Beck, they looked awesome. Wonder if we'll see it consistently?

My optimal lineup would be
Beck/Mo/Rohrer
Pinelli/Gardiner/Boucher
Stoney/Tolnai/Gerrior
Barlas/Foster/Dever

M&M
Costantini/Minty
Smyth/Sirman
By the way Granderson any news on when Smyth is coming back?

Not much update on Smyth I really am not even sure if he becomes an every day player even when full health. From what I have heard they like M/M Cost, mews. 4 that will always be in then rotation of the remaining

If Smyth is healthy you imo have to play him and Sirman on the third pairing. To be honest right now I'd play Marelli over Mews if they insist on playing a rookie as Mews has been prone to errors recently ( although he's played much better the last two games) ...jmo.

If the two PP units are getting equal time (which they haven't been), then I agree that Matier and Mintyukov should be on different units. With PP1 getting the bulk of the 2 minutes, I don't see a problem with both of them on the 1st unit. Like you, I happen to think that PP1 getting ~1:25 out of 2:00 is a bit of a problem, but things will likely shake out a little differently with Boucher back in the lineup this weekend anyway.

Rohrer's ability to win board battles and be effective in a bumper/net-front role is just as good, if not better, than Stonehouse's - imo. The added bonus is that he has looked really good when given spot duty with Morrison and Beck. I thought Rohrer was really good yesterday, in particular. He was strong as usual in his own end, and made at least two nice solo plays where he drove aggressively to the net; it would have been nice to see him get rewarded there.

I agree fully with your first paragraph. If we end up meeting in the Eastern conference final it will be a great series and NB will certainly be a tough out, but yesterday's game dissuaded some of my apprehensions about Ottawa's ability to compete with a physical team like NB (for the record, I would have thought the same even if they ended up losing 2-1, or lost in the OT or SO). I thought we carried the play for a large part of the game.

My biggest issues with the team right now are: (1) their ability to clear the d-zone effectively, especially with Mews and Marrelli on the ice; and (2) their PP. We'll see what changes Cameron makes to the PP units with Boucher back this weekend. It sounds like Smyth is still going to be out for a bit longer, and I don't necessarily see Horner or Ewles as a significant upgrade over Marrelli. Maybe with Boucher (and Barlas?) back they move Sirman back to defense to shore up the 3rd pairing? That would make a lot of sense imo.

The two rookies are still struggling with the level of play, although they are getting there. Soft clearing passes that worked in U16 AAA just do not work at Major Junior. The player that lost the most with the acquisition of Mintyukov is arguable Costantini, who was having a career year. He is still producing points, but he would be very good on the 2nd PP unit with Mayich. I like a loaded top PP unit, with Matier and Mintyukov on their off wing.

Who has the hardest shot on the team.

What I'm most interested to see on Friday evening is where Boucher lines up at ES. Does Cameron put him back with Rohrer and Pinelli? They were a strong line to start the season. Or does he put him up with Morrison and Beck to really load-up that first line? I think either would work honestly. Gerrior has been playing with Morrison and Beck the past few weeks and while he's been able to get in on the forecheck effectively, I don't see him having the offensive instincts or skillset to consistently complement Morrison and Beck in the o-zone (despite the outstanding play he made on the Mintyukov goal a few days ago, which was off the rush). I think Gerrior is ideally better deployed with Gardiner and Barlas as that would be a line that would be a real pain in the ass to play against. But ultimately he'll probably end up on the wing on either Morrison's or Tolnai's line as we just don't have the bodies available to move him down to his ideal position

Beck - Morrison - Boucher
Pinelli - Rohrer - Foster
Gerrior - Tolnai - Stonehouse
Barlas - Gardiner - Kelly/Dever

My guess is Cameron will go with 11 F and 7 D until Barlas is back. Look for Gardiner to take shifts in the top-9 depending on game situation.

I'm not sure on the PP units. I agree with loading up PP1: Matier, Mintyukov, Morrison, Beck, Boucher. Minty and Matier on their off-sides, Matier can be the shooter but Minty likes to sneak down a bit deeper in the o-zone for 1-timers so that could work.

For PP2: Constantini, Tolnai, Rohrer, Pinelli, Stonehouse (I'd go with just 1 D on PP2)

Your lineup would assume that Sirman would be back at D (which I don't disagree with BTW).
But I wonder if that is what they are going to do?
And if he does go back, seems he would need some games in to get refamiliarized there before the playoffs?

Seems to me Sirman would have more of an impact as a defensemen.
But because of the surplus of Defense when Smyth is back, would they want to have as much depth as possible in the 4 forward lines?

Not sure which scenario is bets.

I can understand the desire for a power line
BUT
I like the idea of having 2 power lines. It is easy in the playoffs to key on one line and shut them down. The problem comes when the 2nd and 3rd lines can also kill you.

Gerrior is doing what he is supposed to i the forechecking and it is a line that has been together long enough that they know each other.
Beck - Morrison - Gerrior
Pinelli - Rohrer -Boucher
Foster - Tolnai - Stonehouse
Barlas - Gardiner - Kelly/Dever

I'm not sure on the PP units. I agree with loading up PP1A: Matier, Boucher, Morrison, Beck, Gerrior. Minty and Matier on their off-sides, Matier can be the shooter but Minty likes to sneak down a bit deeper in the o-zone for 1-timers so that could work.

For PP1b: Minty, Tolnai, Rohrer, Pinelli, Stonehouse

Again on the PP I am looking at how do we screw the other team up. Who do you prepare for when there is a PP

Cameron could start either grouping and have the confidence that they can score. Teams have to put their number 1 PK out to start, and then when they are tired Ottawa comes out with the other PP.

In the later rounds, you might go to one but for the early rounds, it makes more sense to conserve energy.

As to Smyth at this stage, I am writing him off. If he comes back then fine but does anyone know if he is skating let alone practicing with the team? No matter what after being off this long I would expect that he is going to have to get his game legs which can take a few games.

mayich Matier
Minty Constantini
Sirman mews/ Marelli/Ewle

I have all 3 because I think that number 6 and 7 D is going to be who is the best player going forward.

What would happen if we moved Boucher to the point on the PP
Bad idea imo Beast, doesn't have the playmaking/ puch handling to play there, he needs to be a shooter.

I would add Mintyukov probably has the quickest release, very little windup and can let it fly within limited space. Does not always do it but is capable of.
