The 67s are coming down to earth and playing more within their capabilities. North Bay has like 5 pretty decent 19 yr olds and 1 20 yr old. With their experience I can see them competing for top spot.

I predict we will come in somewhere around 4-6th place in the east. The kids will gain valuable experience though from this season.

5-6 is a pretty reasonable expectation, I think. 4th would have been expected for the ‘67s if only willing to part with two 3s & 6s for a couple of the best available OAs. Since the ‘67s have close to a full roster returning and 2(1st, 2nd, 4th) in the next draft, they could trade the extra 2, 4 to fill pick gaps

I agree, they will need some more experience as in a couple of OAs to compete for 4th place. No use crying over spilled milk but Emmett Sproule from Erie was picked up for a 6th rounder. He currently has 23 points in 16 games for the Pete's.

Ottawa this year is missing the one thing they had the last few years and that is a goalie that can steal a game. Cranley is ok but he is not a goalie that is going to steal you many games.
The defence is ok but they need to improve and be able t count on the goalie to bail them out.

to me a good season is making the playoffs and be competitive game in and game out.

Anyone think a trade for more OA help is coming? Considering so far it’s been relatively cheap to acquire OA’s?

I hope so, let's get these young guys some playoff games with added experience to guide them along the way. Could be invaluable come next season.

As you stated these OAs have come fairly cheap so far.

I don't know but I get the feeling the 67's are playing the long game here. Not that an OA would cost too much but it would take icetime from the young players and I think they are looking at the next two years. If we were getting smoked game after game different story as you need to be competitive to develop. Despite the last two games we have proven to be competitive especially when we get Beck and Varga back and belanger will be a big factor once he gets up to speed.

I would be less surprised if they make a move for a quality 17y.o forward should one become available or ask out. Moldenhauer not signing left a whole in our 04 group. As we have two first we could trade our two seconds etc for the right guy.

I kind of disagree Beast, Cranley is a quality goalie and is able to steal games imo.

One thing that can happen if the 67s go into a downslide this can really affect these young guys and they can have a hard time adjusting. I would look for an upgrade for Varga and or Johnston. Neither contribute a whole lot considering they are two of the more experienced on the team. This would still give the young guys their current allotment of ice time.

Maybe you are right but I doubt we'll go in a significant downslide based on what I've seen. Ups and downs yes but we'll be competitive. As for Varga and Johnston I would agree with upgrades at the right price. Especially for Johnston getting an 18 y.o. with size that could be a contributor next year would be great. Package Johnson and one of our seconds could do it.

As per Kenny Walls Dylan Robinson suspended indefinitly for a head check in Sudbury. We didn't need that. Not too smart for a 19 y.o. to take himself out of the lineup for the second time this year. He's got to stop that nonsense.

Earth to 67's! Earth to 67's! Back to earth boys. No panic once we get everybody back we'll be ok. Not championship ok, competitive ok which is the goal this year. Keep those heads up!

We knew going in that this was going to be a development year.
New coach
New style.
a whole lot of rookies
an untested goalie

Unless Boyd gets an offer he can not refuse or this team gets in serious injury problems I do not see any trades until after Christmas at best.

Ottawa will not be a buyer this year and really is noting the need to be a seller.
This is a team that might need some help in leadership and if that is the case then I can see a trade at the deadline but it will not be for a star player it is going to be for an OA that can help with leadership down the stretch.

Cameron and Boyd are going to let the rookies develop they are going to give them the ice time. During the Xmas break, they will sit down with some players.

Killer used to tell them ok you have had the time to learn learning time is over now you need to step up. I think that will happen this year with Cameron and Boyd.

Right now next year we lose Varga but everyone else is coming back.

Boyd is going to look at who he has as OA and 18 year olds and that will be the people he trades.

I actually can see Belanger or Tolnai traded

Sirius, is a good goalie but then again he has to be able to lay better than he has. 0.892 sv % is not a goalie that is going to steal games.

16 goals on 88 shots is not a great goalie.
The other side of the coin though is that I think Cameron has to take part of the blame as IMO Cranley shouldn't have played all 3 games and when the score was 4-1 he should have switched goalies

Ottawa
Yesterday‘s game was tough in front of a good Sunday afternoon crowd.

Robinson’s absence is tough, the team really does well with his toughness and will likely miss him for a while after the late elbow on Friday vs Sudbury.

Barlas had a good game yesterday. He had a couple good scoring chances and was tough when he needed to be.

Mackenzie replaced Cranley in the third period and then got injured and had to leave the game. It didn’t look good but hope that he is ok.

The East is so tight that if they have another tough week coming up they could conceivably go from 1st to 7th in two weeks. The Wolves are a young team currently in 8th. The Petes in 9th right now looked good without McTavish and his return will give them a big boost until he is likely traded in January. Niagara in 10th is 11 points back of Ottawa with two games in hand.

Yes that was Killer's theory and how many championships did he win? I know you will say championships are not everything, but they do show you have lots of the right tools to be a successful manager/coach. Killer was a great coach but not as good in a manager role. He is still part of the team but I am sure that Boyd and Cameron have their own plans for the future.

We could of acquired Emmett Sproule for a 6th round pick and he had 4 points yesterday for the Pete's. He has already contributed 27 points in 17 games. Varga could move on as far as I am concerned and Robinson has to smarten up or get released. Would of been a smart move to acquire Sproule.

I hope they do not trade Tolnai and/or Belanger as they would be decent OAs for next season. We have plenty of young players currently and are not in dire straits as far as draft picks go.

In addition, I see Gerrior, Barlas and other young guys getting a rough ride with no push back. Do not need a goon but could use some muscle.
