Thank goodness that the team listened to all of us experts here on HFBoards! :)

It’s a huge conditional return. Let’s hope that Moldenhauer has a change of heart and signs this year with the Sting. Very reminiscent of the Konecny trade with Sarnia, seeing all of those conditional picks!
67’s Receive Draft Selections from Sting in Exchange for Rights to Nicholas Moldenhauer - Ottawa 67s

It is interesting the way the picks were assigned. If Moldenhauer does not report this season, the 2022 3rd is void. Same with the 2023 5th if he doesn’t report next year. If he reports for his final season, then the remainder of the picks would be valid. So, I assume the conditions are based not on him reporting and playing a game in the OHL but he needs to report by a certain date for those picks to be transferred. You cannot transfer a 2022 3rd if he doesn’t report until 2023-2024 season.

But, regardless, we assumed it would be a conditions based deal that would involve multiple 2nds and 3rds so this is a pretty good result. Oddly enough, a much better return than the Fantilli deal.

Sounds like multiple picks fall off if he doesn't come this year, which several people say he's for sure going Chicago Steel, then several picks would fall off if he doesn't come the next year too. But the likelihood of him coming at some point would be quite a bit higher than that of Fantilli, which is why his price was lower as teams know that

It may be this year he was not in the lineup again last night that is 2 games in a row and there is only one more exhibition game. nteresting.

Well, he could have an injury and he could potentially not be in the USA right now for reasons related to the border.

We don’t know why he was not in the lineup.

The questions hen becomes, if he does sign with the sting this year, is that a good trade? A late round 1st, two 2nds, three 3rds, a 4th, 5th and 15th. Or would we be better with him alone?

I think if he were to sign with sarnia this season, getting here picks is a better situation. They are trade capital for a future player acquisition and that would go a long way when we are in the contending window. In addition, the 21st overall pick is likely to o be a pretty good player anyway.

Is the reason he was a late round pick because he had indicated playing state side? Was he ranked higher maybe but dropped because of the chance he would not report? Where players are picked doesn't always match their skill ceiling if they report to a team. I think Sarnia got him fairly cheap if he reports.

OHL loophole has general managers wondering

According to this article, the comp pick is always one pick later than the original slot unless in the top 4. Where are you getting the 23rd from? The other comp picks shouldn’t move the 67’s pick downward.
i suspect hockey pops is right as Saggy (Fantili) and Oshawa (Castle) also declared defections and will get picks before us. So we likely are 23rd imo.

I believe it is one pick back regardless. IF there are 20 picks plus 3 compensation picks, the team finishing in first overall gets pick #23. There is nothing in the rules that suggests otherwise. It only states they move one spot back, so they get pick #21. The other picks move back so they are slotted in to their appropriate spot. THEN the draft goes in reverse order of finish slotting into the remaining available spots.

That is correct, first overall in standings will drop 3 spots from 20 and pick 23rd.

I read in sarnia observer, that ottawa only receives some of those picks even if he was to sign with sarnia today. That’s what sarnia GM said.

From the sarnia observer:

However, there’s no scenario in which the 67’s receive all seven picks, Seca said.

“If he doesn’t arrive, say, this season, a good chunk of those picks come back,” Seca said. “If he doesn’t arrive next season, we get more of those picks back. On paper, it obviously looks like a very hefty trade, but in reality it’s tiered in that picks will circle back our way.”
It’s a calculated risk but also “a very attractive deal,” he said.
“If he shows up within the next week, which we believe is a very, very minimal scenario, obviously then the pick production going the other way would be relatively higher,” Seca said. “But there is not a scenario where all of those picks are included.”

That seems pretty obvious when you look at the dates on the picks. If he reports in 2023, clearly they don’t get the 2022 pick.

Regardless, it is a good deal. Whatever else they end up getting is a bonus in these situations. The 67’s could not risk him not ever reporting and walking away form a valuable 21st pick, even if this ends up being all they get.

He played the first game of the exhibition so immigration is not a concern.

No matter what he does Ottawa got the best they could for him. What sucks is the timeline in that Ottawa had to make a decision before the final USHL lineups were done.
The other thing to look at I am sure is that this will be his draft year so that he wants to shine on the best team with the best support

Either way, I wish him the best.

Now that that is done the 67's can get on with it.

Just looked at the fronts petes game Sunday should be a good test of our players

Can someone explain why onebet is giving the fronts 3.9 x your wager if they win tonight? Wouldn’t they be the favourites?
