If you like magic beans, we hit the jackpot. Otherwise, this is like the Spezza trade all over again with a much better player being traded away.
All I'm saying is that even if the return is underwhelming, it's not even in the same league as the dicking Edmonton received in the Hall trade. At the very least, Tierney and DeMelo are NHL players, not magic beans.

”If you are excited, that makes me excited, and the fans get excited and the sponsors get excited...”

Jesus christ I feel for the Ottawa fans !!!

While Eriksson is incredibly overrated, you would think the the best 4th forward in the league would bring back at least one good asset.

This isn't me defending the deal because it's not a good return at all, but I think people are overrating how much 1 year of Karlsson should have actually brought back. Personally, I think it's crap because of the amount of quantity they got,

I honestly don't know what people were expecting. Rentals don't return core pieces.

For Karlsson it would be best to go all in with San Jose for 1 year and then pick a new team next summer.

San Jose will be deadly for now but in few years they'll start a heavy decline.

People have been saying this for years and it hasn't happened yet. If they extend Karlsson, it won't happen anytime soon either.

I know when I trade a hall of famer in his prime, I'm looking for NHL players in return and nothing less!

ITT: fans forget get that "qUaliTY not QuAntiTy" is a fan fantasy, also forget that rental prices are different than those of term assets, also show ignorance of San Jose's system

This package is lightyears better than Patches, and solidly better than McDonagh.

Agreed about the quantity/quality point. These forums insist 90% of the time they're only interested in quality deals when in reality most trades are quantity.

That's exactly what they should have done.
Agreed.

It seems like the location was more important than the return for OTT. If you're OTT and can't get EK to sign an extension pre trade, why not just 1) hold onto him until the deadline and sell him to whoever the hell you want (minus his 10 teams) for a bluechip and a first or 2) if you really want it done before camp, say damn the location and take the best return so we can sell it to our fans. What are you selling in this deal to OTT fans? That you really didn't want to play against him much? Cause that's all I can really see out of this.

They take a poor return and even include clauses to try and keep him from the East, but without him signing an extension, there's a pretty high chance he just ends up in TB anyway.

why the hell would the sens deal with the sharks again after the whole hoffman thing?

wilson just took dorion on a walk once again. SJ has to be the favorite now to make it out of the west

It's a terrible return for Ottawa. San Jose doesn't care about cheap and under control for years. They care about winning a Cup now. You can always find cheap bodies through FAs. Guys who are looking to rebound. Role players who get overlooked and catch fire in the playoffs. You can NOT say the same about a player of Erik Karlsson's calibre.
All true except for you can probably find a guy like Karlsson in free agency next year because he'll probably play out his deal. Ottawa lost the deal but they don't care about winning a Cup now. Braun was a guy people were posting could be included, that's the type of guy you can get in free agency that Ottawa wouldn't value, they could look at the guys they got and say at least they represent savings.

Two things:
Many people have said, you won't get much for a rental...and it was true, but still poor asset management by PD.

Bolts fans said that in year 3 of Boucher, he had a terrible team and defence, Sens fans said that obvously it wouldn't be the
case. No, its coming full circle.
