That last conditional pick is awesome. That's a great little piece tacked on. What could you possibly laugh about that particular caveat? Unless I read it wrong, if he signs with an Eastern team, we get another 1st. Lol?

Its a weird condition. It says karlsson has to play on an eastern team in 18/19, which means this upcoming season (the 2018/2019 season). Sj just has to not trade him there like they did with hoffman. Im reading it as it relates to the hoffman deal, who was traded out east so fast. Im laughing cause dorion should never deal with wilson after that trade.

Their chance is still no better than 20%. And really, hasn't shifted much on this. As they were, the Sens were likely a bottom-3 team (the only team that finished behind them last year has improved, the Sens had already lost their best sniper). This trade moves them from likely last to even more likely last. But last is still only an 18% chance at Hughes. Very little changed for Colorado today.

Karlsson could have willed them out of a bottom 5 finish. Now that remote possibility is gone. They are DEFINITELY a bottom 5 team now. Probably the worst in the NHL realistically.

...Actually, if he PLAYS for an Eastern team in 2018-19, OTT gets that pick. Not 2018 OR 2019. That clause would most likely be illegal.

I love how the Sens press release boasts that they acquired six assets. Quantity over quality I guess?

We now know who runs the Sens Twitter account.

Would it not have been better to keep him and play out the year? I don't see anything in that return that is going to be worth tanking in a year when you don't control your 1st round pick. Since revenue seems to be the sticking point, you probably would have better attendance to see EK play and maybe the team can stay in the playoff hunt. You could probably get as much or more trading EK at the trade deadline to be honest, when more teams can fit his cap hit.

The 2019 first is Buffalo's.

Ah, so if SJS makes the playoffs, which they will, BUF gets their 1st in 2019, and OTT gets the 1st in 2020.

I missed that 1 of the 2nds was in 2019 and not 2020, so at least OTT gets that this year

How the hell is Ottawa going to get to the cap floor next year?

They just shaved another $3+ mil off their cap for next year by dumping Karlsson and taking back Tierney/DeMelo

Looking through the conditional picks, the Senators can end up with as many as 3 1st rounders and 1 2nd rounder and as few as 1 1st rounder and 2 2nd rounders along with the players. Realistically, I'd guess that the trade will probably end up either 2 1st rounders and a 2nd rounder or a 1st rounder and 2 2nd rounders along with the players. For 1 year of Karlsson, I don't think you can really expect more, especially from a team with such a depleted prospect pool.

This has got to be the funniest trade.. but I mean we have to understand, I'm sure if there was a better offer on the table, he would have taken it?

Wonder why his value was so low on the market..
Everyone knows Dorian can't do shit and is against the wall. That's why.

I find it weird that Ottawa appears to be trying to deal only with the West for the most part. The clause about the eastern teams makes sense, especially after being burned before BUT Ottawa is going to be bad for a long time and Karlsson was leaving regardless. Take the best package... who cares if he stays in the conference?

I would love to see Karlsson flipped to a Western conference team as a screw you to Ottawa, but then also flipped to an Eastern conference team as a screw you to the Sharks too

Looking forward to watch Tierney and DiMelo shines with the Sens this coming season. And bobby Ryan will have a great, great season....:sarcasm:

And people said my offer of Foote, Cirelli and Raddysh wasn't "enough" rotflmao
Ottawa would be doing backflips right now if they were offered that... unless they see something we don't in Tierney...
