While I agree Ottawa did horrible, I also am not sure if I like this for San Jose.

If he re-signs, this would be another robbery of Ottawa by Wilson, but If he doesn't re-sign, that's a lot to give up for one year.

Even with Karlsson do you have San Jose in your top 5 favorites? Because I don't.

And no, this trade is not less return than what Patches got. Tierney and Demelo are both young and solidly underrated. Tierney outscored Tatar fwiw

ITT: fans forget get that "qUaliTY not QuAntiTy" is a fan fantasy, also forget that rental prices are different than those of term assets, also show ignorance of San Jose's system

This package is lightyears better than Patches, and solidly better than McDonagh.

I hope someone asks Melnyk if he refused to trade him to the East. If so, I can understand why Tampa whiffed. If not, I have NO IDEA what Tampa just did.

Karlsson could have willed them out of a bottom 5 finish. Now that remote possibility is gone. They are DEFINITELY a bottom 5 team now. Probably the worst in the NHL realistically.

They'll have to trade Stone and Duchene too and then they will be without a doubt the worst roster in the league

So;

Chris Tiernay
Dylan Demelo
Josh Norris
Rudolfs Balcers
1st 2020
2nd 2020
2nd 2021 (Becomes a 1st if Erik Karlsson re-signs with SJS)
1st in 2021 or 2022 (OTT receives if Karlsson plays for Eastern team in 2018-19) [ ]

for

Erik Karlsson
Francis Perron

Just goes to show how stupid and egotistic alot of GM's are in the league for refusing to trade within the same division.

"But...But what happenz if he lightz us up for years to come.....durrrrr!!!?"

So f***ing what!!?...As a GM, you owe to the team--and your fanbase, to get the best possible return for your star player--who also happens to be the most coveted D-man on the market since Chris Pronger.

Way to see the big picture in all of this, Dorion and Melnyk...

Yzerman/Brisebois, Nill and McPhee should all be fired today by their organizations lol. None of them were willing to beat this pathetic offer for one of the top 3 defensemen on the planet right in the prime of his career? Insanity.

Well, given the conditions on the draft picks, Dorion wouldn't trade him east.

I wish that proposal would've been made here first...that wouldn't have been pretty.

I feel for you Sens fans.
See ya at the bottom of the standings for the next couple of years.
Cheers !

don't worry. They gonna get Lafrenière at the next Draft.

Sens fans keep saying the AVs only have a 18% chance for Hughes, but a stacked draft of Centres. Same odds the following season, 2020 - Lafrenière is a Winger, teams build around C or D.

They lose again if AVs get Hughes and Sens Lafrenière.

Balcers is crazy skilled, though. And Norris is a very good prospect. Just because they are from San Jose and nobody talks about them means they are bad prospects. Its an okay return for a guy who was going to leave real soon.

Laughin' it up over here at the lopsided trade and the fact that so many posters said there was no way the Sharks got Karlsson.

Hahahah, the best part of the trade is making the sharks promise not to flip him back to the east.
Not like it matters at all.

If I'm reading this correctly, the Sharks have to re-sign Karlsson AND make the final for the Sens to get a second 1st rounder? So they can lose in the conference final and still re-sign him and the Sens get nothing else? Wow.

At least you helped clear some of that cap for them, Dorion. Enjoy Boedker.

Never forget...Jim Nill wouldn't give up Ty Dellandrea to get Erik Karlsson. A kid they plan on having as their 2ND LINE center potentially one day. Idc if it's just one year of Karlsson, you give up Ty Dellandrea any day of the week. Especially when the rest of the package is so dreadful.

Deal would've been done if Nill moved him.

You're welcome San Jose

Foolish. Ty Dellandrea better end up a prime Mike Richards.

I literally don't really follow hockey trading as closely as I should I guess but this sounds like one of the biggest trades in NHL history to me, is that something you guys would agree with?
