Sharks didn’t even have to take Bobby Ryan’s terrible contract. Which is supposedly what held up other deals.

What an awful deal for OTT

You know how fans always say:

"We should have traded him before he left for free agency! We knew he wasn't going to re-sign!"

This is the kind of offer GMs are getting for those kind of players they lose to free agency. Hence why they don't usually make the trade but rather try to re-sign the player.

Damned if you do. Damned if you don't.

I don't know if I've ever felt so bad for a team that isn't my own. The fans deserve so much better than this.

So;

Chris Tiernay
Dylan Demelo
Josh Norris
Rudolfs Balcers
1st 2019 OR 2020 (Not sure whose choice it is)
2nd 2019
2nd 2021 (Becomes a 1st if Erik Karlsson re-signs with SJS)
1st in 2021 or 2022 (OTT receives if Karlsson plays for Eastern team in 2018-19) [ ]

for

Erik Karlsson
Francis Perron

The Sens Owner is sticking it to Bettman and the league after they "quieted" him down...he wants out; and will undermine the team to get it off his books.

tbh its not that bad considering its an expiring deal. Balcers and norris are decent prospects. One is a 1st rounder and the other is developing nicely. Then they get another first and 2nd round pick condition that could turn into another 1st. Thats 3 first rounders for a rebuilding team. Ottowa is in better shape than montreal, especially if they can get jack hughes.
How in the hell are Ottawa supposed to get Jack Hugues? That was like me asking for pity sex at college.

What the hell is with that clause? Plays for an Eastern Conference team? I honestly hope Dorion didn't ignore offers from TB because they were in the East.
Sure as hell seems like he did because there is no way in hell TB doesn't beat this offer.

I love this trade...as Wings fan!

1. Ottawa gets even weaker, both short & long term. That return was garbage, seems like a panic move by Dorion.

2. Gets Karlsson out of our division & the EConf.

3. SJ will likely sign him to a huge deal ($12M+), which could backfire in a few years or sooner, as EK hasn't been the same defensively after the broken ankle in '17. He was above average defensively then, but obviously the best Offensive Dman in the league & probably still is. If they win the cup then I guess it's worth it (their window is narrow even with EK) If I'm SJ, I trade him after a cup win for a huge return, under contract & replenish the system.

4. It keeps Ken Hollland from offering him $12M+ for the reasons stated above in #3.

I think everyone is majorly over-reacting. I understand Karlsson is probably the best defenseman in this league but he has 1 year left. For an unextended Karlsson, Ottawa still got 2 firsts (if you count Norris), and 2 seconds, with the potential for one of those becoming the third first round pick in this deal.
Surely they might have been able to get a better prospect in another deal but all in all I don't think it is as bad as people are making it out to be.
On the other hand, Ottawa doesn't have their first round pick this year and are going to be just awful so there's that.
