If EK signs in the east, the Sens will get 3 first rd picks out of this deal. If he signs with SJ they get 2 1sts and 2 2nd's.

The Sens were never going to get back a good return, you just don't when you deal a player of this stature. But I would not say they got nothing back. They are stockpiling high picks. This is not easy in today's game when GM's hoard their 1st rd picks.

I bet the conversation went like this:

Wilson: I'll give you Tierney, Demelo, Norris, Balmers, a 1st, a 2nd, and timo m-

Dorion: Don't say another word. I'll add in Francis Perron and we have a deal!

No Haiskanen, No Sergachev for the Sens, Not even Theodore or Hague... But they got DeMelo !!!!

alright alright this is a little better. basically 2 1sts and then who knows. could be worse
I see basically a 1st and two 2nds. If he has to sign AND SJ has to make the finals they get the 2nd 1st. No reason to for him not to sign with that group, making the finals with the top heavy west is still a tough go.

This is an awful return for Ottawa but at the same time SJ better win the cup within 2, MAYBE 3 years because they are getting old and their prospect pool is COMPLETELY empty

Then, the market is further limited by cap space and the fact that Ottawa wanted him to go to the Western Conference. Still a bad return, but I get why it was bad.

Why? Were the Sens planning on competing for a cup in between now and 2020? Who cares what conference he goes to if it's as a rental, just get the best return possible. He's free to sign after an year with an Eastern team anyways.

I wonder if there's anything on Karlsson that fans don't know. Duchene didn't seem concerned at all that he would be leaving, preferring to site Stone as a real cornerstone. And if insiders know it, other GMs know it. Is it the primadona thing where others just start to despise him? I mean...Dorion isn't Pejorative Slured, he's a pretty astute judge of young talent - and this package doesn't look great in my eyes. Is there a reason or is Ottawa just cursed right now?

the sens still dont have a '19 1st though...maybe from the Duchene or Stone trades? :sarcasm:

That last conditional pick is hilarious. Why even deal with wilson! How does wilson get dorion to forgive him for the last deal!
i like how the first condition is an "and" so the sharks have to make the finals and re-sign him. Should be an or.
