Sens should know there’s only one Hasek. Get players who play defensively responsible hockey and the goalie will do better. It’s not the goalie in Ottawa. It is a group of top minute players who are more interested in their scoring stats than winning.

Sens have some of the best defensive metrics in the league. If you've watched some of the goals the goalies have gave up, you'll know it's not a defensive issue. Granted tonight, Edmonton got a ton of high quality chances. However, the advanced stats also confirm it unlike a game like the Flyers where the sens did an excellent job not allowing many high quality chances.

Whether it’s just a bad start in Ottawa, or as many warned, he was a product of the zone system in Boston, you can’t blame the Sens for making the trade to find out.

The question, as some of those same people asked at the time is, why hand him the big extension, after only a couple of games in a Sens uniform?

If he ends up another big mistake, that’s the question that should be answered. Especially with all of Ottawa’s recent misses in net.

If this continues, hopefully wherever Montgomery lands, is in need of a new goaltender. Or maybe give Vegas a call. In fact, with how bad their goalies have been, maybe that’s how they ultimately get out from under another mistake in net. Send him to Cassidy. You’ll have to deal with him looking great again in Vegas, but at least they’ll be able to move on from most of his contract. The amount of retention will be the reminder of the lesson learned…

If every year the metrics look alright but the goalie is the problem no matter who is in net, then I'd start thinking maybe the metrics are flawed.

Sens had bad metrics from 2018-2023. Last year their metrics were mediocre. This year they're legit having one of the best. Also sens did get great goaltending in 2021-2022. Yes metrics are flawed but even from watching the game they're not having anymore bad defensive breakdowns than their opponents in 90% of the games.

You can also watch the games...

Ottawa has been very good defensively. Not a ton of dangerous chances against, very few odd man rushes, most shots from the outside, etc. Very different from previous years.

Ullmark, though, has been terrible. I'd argue even worse goaltending than Korpisalo supplied, considering the types of shots he's facing and letting in.

Is he doomed to fail? No. He's dealt with a nagging injury, new surroundings, etc. All valid reasons for an "adjustment" period.

But he better get it together quick.

Not a surprise at all; goalies are a product of their team. Almost as obvious as when Grubauer left the Avs.

Maybe, just maybe sens fans will realize its not just their goalies that are the issue and holding them back from making the playoffs lol.

All they have are goalies struggling behind that team but naw, its def all these plug in and out goalies thats holding them back.

What does Swayman have to do with this? This thread is about Ullmark, who was traded for Korpisalo :)

Swayman also sucks when his team is a dog. Korpisalo is performing well though, sometimes teams play better in front of their backup.

Keypoint, goaltending is in general a product of their team and paying big money is usually not a good idea, with a few exceptions.

Still talking about Jeremy Swayman in a thread about Linus Ullmark and the Ottawa Senators. Let's stay on topic please!

I would like to thank the Ottawa Senators for finally allowing us to obtain a franchise goalie. Korpisalo is so good man.

Meanwhile, another L for Ullmark tonight, he's really stacking them up!
I would have pegged ya for a pens fan lol
Guess it's not alwaya sunny in Philadelphia for ya.
Anyways back to the topic. Lol sens and ullmark

Man Korpi and Kastelic were the scraps of the deal and both have become vital to Bruins line up. That kid Leternaeu is the icing of the deal imagine Don sweeney hits on that too. It's like getting all the lotto numbers correct .
