In 2016-17 QMJHL season Abramov scored 104 points in 64 games, and Batherson scored 58 points in 61 games. Now Abramov plays in the KHL and Batherson gets a fancy NHL contract.

That's because Batherson is a late bloomer. Sounds like he had a late growth spurt when he was 17-18 yrs old and it took him a while to adjust. He's been trending up consistently, and fast, since then.

hate the Sens, but I think this will end up being a really good deal for them. Not too sure he wont exceed that AAV personally. He's already producing close to an effective 2nd line winger. You'd have to think this will only get better as the years pass.

Sens still shit though ;)

Hopefully so for OTT, but it's pretty east to go back in time and see that White was highly valued by OTT (and other ) fans just a couple of years ago. No one was talking about his flaws at the time. Will Batherson be a different case?
Batherson was over a PPG player for two seasons in the AHL prior to this past NHL season. His track record is far better than White.

Exactly. I should know a bad contract when I see one. And this one definitely fits that bill.
The Batherson contract is far better than about a dozen on the Sharks. It's similar to Hertl's deal which is fine.

It's a bit rich for what he's done so far, but if he continues to trend the way he was playing last season ... He will out grow this contract fairly soon.

Solid deal for the Sens

He looks like he will be a solid contributor. Hopefully he doesn't hit a wall though. 5M is a lot for someone who is still relatively unproven.

If he maintains his play or gets better, it's a fantastic deal

This is a smart deal by the Sens. It could eventually move into steal territory given Batherson's skillset.

There is some downside risk with Batherson but I don't think it is on the level of a Wennberg or White. Batherson's skillset is just higher. There's zero mystery to how he gets his points and how effective he is.

Drake has been constantly improving ever since draft day. Last year wasn't a breakout year, it was just another step closer to his ceiling. That's why this contract is an absolute steal. Just like how he was a steal in the draft. Getting any top 6 forward locked up for under 5 mil from 23-29 years old is a great contract to me.

5 mil for 17 goals.

L O L.

Imagine if your team was stuck paying a combined total of 27m dollars in cap for just 17 goals for only three (wtf lol) old and declining players for another 5+ yrs...

Then they spent another 8m on another 30+ player that had 17g and 31pts (less than Batherson..).

Then another 6m for one 12g scorer...

Plus 4.7m on a useless 12g scorer...

And then you have the balls to laugh at another team for whats being called a great deal by almost everyone?. The Sharks have literally lost all credibility, and are a joke team now. The days of throwing stones at anyone else are over for now. Time to get back to your roots as a fanbase and be humble again...

This is just like a broken and crippled Conor McGregor calling Dustin Poirier (and his wife!?) out to a fight in the parking lot immediately after getting his ankle snapped in 10-8 round that he got embarrassed in... and its it's almost sad to see in some ways

Anyone doubting this deal really hasn't followed Drake's trajectory. This is a very safe investment for a guy that is a minimum 30/30 player, is an asset to any line and a likeable glue type guy in the dressing room. Future captain material on other NHL rosters. Most SENS fans don't even realize just how valuable he is going to be.

I would not be surprised if he emerges in a similar fashion as Mark Stone in that he will quietly sneak up on the league and be the type of every night performer that checks all the boxes.
