This trade really just highlights "what could have been" with Norris. We've all seen games where he looks like he could be the best player on the ice if he wanted to. The shoulder injury really crippled a lot of his game imo.

I don't see Cozens being all that much better but there's optimism that once out of the Buffalo system he can shine. See: virtually every player traded from Buffalo.

Don't underestimate how Buffalo sucks the life out of every good player they have.

I expect Cozens to get a big boost in terms of energy/positivity.

I feel really bad for Norris though, this could really harm his career.
You're right about how Buffalo can suck the life out of a player.

Bur, to me, Norris was really finding his groove here in Ottawa. I felt like our three centres of Stutzle, Norris and Pinto were really starting to gel.

I hope you are right and Cozens finds another gear, but the stats are not supporting him at all. Norris had twice as many goals and we need goal scoring!

Norris has also had a much better faceoff percentage than Cozens throughout his career. That is why he starts more shifts in the defensive zone than any other Senator.

Yeesh, I think we got fleeced. I am printing out a picture of Staios and replacing Dorion's face on my dartboard!

I am listening to Seravalli on youtube: he said there was a ton of interest in Cozens around the league, and there is a lot of frustrated GMs that they couldn't get the deal done. He said a lot of GMs believe Cozens still has great upside which begs the question, why would Buffalo let him go?
Detroit almost traded for him earlier in the year too.

Buffalo needs a change, they’re a mess. The consequences of losing for so long. It’s where we were headed if we didn’t get a new owner when we did.

Loved Norris - great player and game-changer when healthy. Gonna miss him on the team.
I did not "love" him because he lacked playmaking skills, was injured too much, and was paid too much. He lost his 1st line position to Stutzle who is more talented offensively. I "love" Stutzle.

I don't "love" Batherson either; he may be next on the "trade list". His "invisible man" routine is pissing me off.

All players involved are pretty equal to their counterparts in the trade and the 2nd and the extra cap space are a nice bonus.

I'm gonna miss Norris, you could see how much better the team was with him in the lineup versus without him in the lineup, and that leads to the crux of the issue which is that he was out of the lineup way too much for someone who made as much as him. JBD for Gilbert is a wash.

I'm cautiously optimistic on Dylan Cozens, this guy was a highly touted prospect for a long time for a reason.

Younger, cheaper and less injury prone. Maybe lower ceiling, but I think this is all kinds of smart. Add in the 2nd round pick and it's a clear W. This gives the sens more flexibility over time. Every time Josh went down in the corner we'd all hold our collective breath and become amateur shoulder joint experts. I love the guy and he has a penchant for timely pp goals, but this is a smart move. It's a pure hockey trade too.

The extra cap space also lets the sens go get some depth

Our biggest issue is scoring at 5v5.

Norris has 9G and 3A at even-strength this year.
Cozens has 9G and 16A and even-strength.

Hopefully someone can pick up the slack on the PP, but Cozens is for sure an upgrade, offensively, at 5v5.

We'll see how he can play defensively though.

yea man - definitely the players have their flaws. Still sad to lose Norris on the team.

I’m torn. But they did something big! Hopefully Cozens is the next Reinhart.
I feel the same way. I will honestly miss Norris. He still has the potential to be great. I hope you're right about Cozens. I haven't been paying a lot of attention to Cozen's development. Is he a center or a winger? If a winger, maybe we finally have the elusive winger for Timmy.

Norris tried to send him to Nashville for oreilly (lmfao) and it fell through. And he tried to send him to Vancouver.

You're making several assumptions here.

First, what makes you think this deal for Cozens was started and finished this morning? It could have been happening in parallel with other negotiations and SS could have been playing both teams(or all three including Vancouver) off each other. Second, what makes you believe that it was not those teams that you mentioned that made the initial call to gauge the price on Norris?

Since you seem to be upset about this trade, you of all people can appreciate that Norris was probably on a lot of teams' radars because of his production and goal scoring prowess. And let's not selectively ignore that the same media you're using as a reference to put this trade/Cozens down is also reporting that numerous teams were interested in Cozens as well.

for some reason they never tried Norris on Stutzle's wing, but hopefully they try Cozen.

might be our 30 goal winger for Stu.
i agree, overall it is weird that we didnt try norris on the wing when early indications are we will be putting cozens on the wing

Still need to trade Perron to gain $4M cap space to add to Giroux's $6.5M and Forsberg's 2.75M to help pay a top line forward during the off-season.

That's honestly a pretty decent deal for Carolina considering the hole they dug themselves into, and they might turn around and get another top-6 guy for one of those 1st round picks.
I do not know the details of the trade (the 1st round picks might come with conditions). Time will tell.

It's "click and go make a sandwich" time.
