I'm going to predict that when we look back on this trade a few years from now it's going to be seen as one of the better trades in Sens history.
Suggest you should immediately post the same exact message except replace "better" with "worst". That way you can cite whichever one turns out to be right for many years to come.

Just kidding you...

Im quite on the fence about Cozens for Norris but I actually like Gilbert for JBD aspect.

We were flush with right shot bottom pair guys and I prefer Matinpalo over JBD anyways.

Gilbert balances it out and is pretty tough.
JBD is not an NHL defenseman.

So if Gilbert can be, even a little bit, that's an upgrade.

He’d be very well regarded if he were 6’3 220. Unfortunately a pretty slow 6’0 190 shutdown defenseman isn’t quite the same.
Gilbert will fight. That alone could save Brady from being in 1 or 2 battles down the stretch which is a huge bonus.

He was injured during a critical stretch, and we did lose several games with him and Pinto out. Cozens needed a change of scenery and is rarely hurt. I think it's a lateral move overall. This isn't about the owner saving cash its about cap space man.
The Sens were lucky there was a 2 week break or Norris would have missed another 6 or so games this year.

Norris can score sometimes in streaks, but leaves so much to be desired. I still think he's the better producer between the two and lately he has been a lot better imo.

However the fact that our so called 2nd line Center couldn't tally more than 20 assists in a season was a bit odd. If they didn't add Zetterlund today I would probably be a bit upset about this trade.

On another note, I can't recall anything JBD did in his time here, one of the most vanilla players we've had who was a high-ish pick.

cool and he has more game winning goals this year than Cozens does career
The first goal scored in a 5-0 blowout counts the same as a tie breaking goal with a minute left which counts the same as scoring the second goal in a 6-1 win which counts the same as an OT winner all of which is to say it means basically nothing when it comes to GWG and GWG is a useless stat

Think about why that might be
he has a good shot and scores goals at a fairly decent rate while Cozens does not score much, or do you think his 11 goals would all be winners on another team?
I hope this guy can turn things around but he is a large let down in Buffalo. Norris left people wanting more Cozens was straight up useless for the most part

Sabres fan here, coming in peace to kind of talk Cozens (and a line or two on Gilbert).

After his breakout season in 22/23....he and Don Granato (our coach at the time) had a long talk and Dylan focused his energy and workouts over the summer of 23 into becoming a scoring force capable of scoring 40+ each and every year. It was a very, very, very poor decision. Between that and his fight against Hathaway the following year, dude just has not been the same. I think he is WAY in his head and needed this change of scenery.

At his best....and I've been VERY consistent in this over the years.....Cozens is/should be Jeff Carter v2.0. Bigger guy who can use his body, has a good-to-great shot and plays 2-ways very well. But he's so incredibly screwed up right now that many Buffalo fans aren't sure if he's an actual center or a winger. I hope he plays well for you.

Dennis Gilbert. He's physical. He's also dumb about it. He will consistently take himself completely out of a play to make a hit......and I'm not even talking about big hits. He seeks out contact so much that he'll completely lose a play just to rub a guy out. And he will occasionally make the dumbest pinches at absolutely stupid times. He's a 7/8 guy at best.

I don’t get this. Does someone have to die for you to be emotional?

They’ve known each other since they were teenagers and see each other every day. Guy had like two seconds to process it. Brady will be fine, he’s sad his friend is gone. No one needs to psychoanalyze it.
You're right - no need to psychologize Tkachuck - I'm sure it's honestly felt - but I guess I'll psychologize myself and say that when I hear the clip on the radio (and, I guess, in the context of other things one might be inclined to shed a tear over) to me his state of mind is a testimony to the values of the unusual and atypical world he lives in - how much intensity has been demanded of him and how much continues to be expected of him and how it spills over into all aspects of his publicly viewable life.

Turning to the Sens: assuming Brady "recovers" (as we all assume he will!) - it seems like the trade(s) will make the team stronger (in all respects) - and, having typed this, will now ensure Cozens steps on a banana peel and dislocates his lumbar vertebrae...
