You're allowed that opinion, but ya I'm fine if you want to move goalposts and drop your absurd claim it was about money.
we traded a guy with 20 goals and 33 points in 53 games who is unreal on faceoffs for a poor faceoff guy with 10 goals and 31 points in 61 games.....
If that isn't to save money I can't think of one reason it is a good idea

I hope it works out but something tells me the sens will be worse off and the sabers will be laughing

Hockey isn't this simple.

Happy we got a 2nd back as well. Gotta use that to refill the cupboards.

Sucks that JBD can't continue his development here but Matinpalo can be our 3RD next season and we don't know if JBD will be the same after his ankle injury.

I think you have to look at it from all angles and accept that there was an assessment made internally that it made sense. 5on5 production and trying to actually prop up linemates is one argument. Younger and less injury prone is another. Not all GM's end up right and I'm not saying it's a slam dunk. I'm just saying it isn't some dumbass Melnyk money move like we used to see all the time and took issue with that claim. As it is, they're still basically capped out.

Nonsense. This isn't a Melnyk money move. They are a cap team right now. If anything they're finagling some cap flexibility for this year. A downgrade is a subjective opinion that the GM surely doesn't share.

Lots to point to from the other side that justifies the deal just the same. Better 5on5 production, less games missed this year, and 2 years younger. Both guys have question marks.
I think that poster is a troll. We don’t see him/her in here much.

JBD looks like a 3rd pair D and nothing more. Matinpalo looks the same. Replaceable players. I would like a bigger more physical 3RD or 3LD who can hit and punish opposing Fs. Kleven may turn into that type of 3LD. Yak has the inside track on 3RD in the next season or two.

Cozens has more 5 on 5 points than Norris

We struggle there. He will also get more points on our roster

still being capped out is why its a money move, josh gets paid 9.5 cash. Everyone knows the Sens are a legit 105 pace with pinto Norris and Stu on the ice. How we get better with this move is beyond me.

hopefully that Ullmark starts playing well because we are seriously going to miss joshes production

Stankoven has almost the exact same stats as Dylan Cozens. Those two 1st round picks will most likely be outside of the lottery.

This is a huge move for Dallas. I bet Carolina is kicking themselves for trading Necas.
Ya, that trade for Rantanen was bizarre. Big gamble for the Canes to make without an extension and Necas is a talented player.

Norris is one play away from LTIRetirement.

It's a move minorly benefiting their cap situation that is/was a problem. It is not a Melnyk money move like you implied. They did not make this trade to save a million for the owner. That was nonsense. Like it or not, the GM and pro scouting thought this was a good move to make from a hockey perspective. Disagreeing with that is fine, we just have to see it play out to see if it was wise.

I liked Norris. Defended him on here many times.

Do we become too attached to our players?

The whistles go away in the playoffs. Less PPs. We're 30th in 5 on 5 goals. Does a C that is a better play maker get more out of his wingers than Norris?
I’ve been out all day. Has anybody done an analysis on Cozens defensive metrics?

The role for Norris changed this year to a more defensive role. He played PK, the PP, had the lowest OZ zone starts (iirc). He also had good faceoff stats.

Anyhow, it's a done deal, and I (or we) cheer for the team above the player.

You're making several assumptions here.

First, what makes you think this deal for Cozens was started and finished this morning? It could have been happening in parallel with other negotiations and SS could have been playing both teams(or all three including Vancouver) off each other. Second, what makes you believe that it was not those teams that you mentioned that made the initial call to gauge the price on Norris?

Since you seem to be upset about this trade, you of all people can appreciate that Norris was probably on a lot of teams' radars because of his production and goal scoring prowess. And let's not selectively ignore that the same media you're using as a reference to put this trade/Cozens down is also reporting that numerous teams were interested in Cozens as well.
First paragraph.
Yeah ok. Could have worked out that way exactly.

Second paragraph

I don’t care that other teams were interested in cozen. Other teams are f***ing dumb and so are a lot of GMs who all regularly make very very bad moves.
I’m beleive the send trades a better player for a worse one today. Thats all there is to it. Hope I’m wrong hope cozens has a Reinhardt like bounce back.

There I’ve answered.

Detroit almost traded for him earlier in the year too.

Buffalo needs a change, they’re a mess. The consequences of losing for so long. It’s where we were headed if we didn’t get a new owner when we did.
I wonder how much of it is their systems and coaching? Buffalo has some good players, but they never seem to put it all together.
