Norris is quick, smart, good defensively, excellent at faceoffs, has a great shot, plays #1PP and kills penalties. He's seriously underrated because of a few injuries and his contract. Ottawa's taking the bigger risk here, I don't think Cozens at $900K less is either an improvement or enough of a salary difference to make up the difference between these guys.

Cozens has to be better than he's shown in Buffalo. Entirely possible, but Buffalo got the best player in this deal and until proven otherwise, this is a massive risk at a weird time to do it. There's been rumours all year shit Norris on the block, and I've never felt that they would get a good enough return to pull the trigger, especially considering that he's Brady's best friend. Upsetting the apple cart like this now could derail what was a very good chance at the playoffs.

The acquisition of Zetterlund makes this a little better because I really had no idea how the lines were gonna work before that. I thought it was too much of a downgrade to put Cozens at 2C and Sabres fans might be right when they say Cozens would be better suited at wing. Ottawa does have the luxury of Grieg being fully capable of handling 3C and Pinto at 2, but that diminishes the 3rd line and Cozens in the top 6 instead of Norris was also a minus.

I'll give the W to Buffalo but with hope that Cozens can be a good contributor. I'll be so pissed if not, I REALLY loved having that Stützle Norris Pinto trio up the middle, and felt the injury concerns were way overblown.

Only immediate positive is not having to listen to other Sens fans talk about putting Norris on the wing every day. But that'll probably be wished upon Cozens soon enough lol

Norris and Pinto have similar skill sets. It looks like Josh’s shoulder issues are fixed up. Good wheels clutch scorer, Buffalo did well. Staios wanted a little variety and I’d expect Cozen’s eventually winds up in the wing with Stutzle, Pinto and Greig down the middle.

This seems like a change of scenery type of trade for both Norris and Cozens.
I like it more for Ottawa as Norris just can’t stay healthy. Buffalo taking a risk here.

Ya they are, but Cozens hasn’t been the same since having his jaw caved in a good while back. Change of scenery for sure though.

I mean at this point I just expect Cozens to go flying in Ottawa.

Getting away from the Sabres may ignite something. Only NHL franchise he has ever been a part of.

It’s worked for literally everyone but Girgensons, so probably.

Kinda hate it, I’ll be honest, but eh- I’ve eaten crow before. As long as Aaron Dell stays far away.

My sentiments exactly.

Not going to lie, Sabres fans definitely have me convinced that Dylan Cozens sucks. It's a somewhat universal feeling amongst their ilk, it would seem. There is zero debate and that's a bad sign.

Sabres fans: when Cozens wasn't absolute ass, was he playing on the wing?
Just because he's playing like ass RIGHT NOW doesn't mean he'll continue to play like ass with you guys. I will still maintain that if developed correctly, he could/should be Jeff Carter v2.0

And when he played his best, he was a center. Usually with Peterka on his wing.

Norris looked like he was on his way to becoming a 45-50 goal scorer after the 2021-2022 season. Really unfortunate what happened after multiple shoulder injuries. He never seemed like the same player after, and shoulder injuries are so tough. With that being said, he was a very useful and good player this season, and seems like a really great guy that’s well liked by his teammates. He’s also scored some really clutch goals for Ottawa.

It seems like the Sens went this direction because of the difference in health and even strength production between these two players. I don’t necessarily think Norris needed a change of scenery, but I think and hope Cozens will benefit from a new team.

Hopefully Norris is part of the solution for turning Buffalo around. Some great memories from our battles in 2005-2007. Buffalo was such a mad house to play in, with so many good and clutch players.

This has Tim Connely vibes all over it for me. Norris is gonna come in and wow us and win us nay sayers over. Then get hurt over and over. And we will keep saying to ourselves just wait til he comes back! We will be golden then! But we are Buffalo and we won't be fine let alone golden....

Then we’re gonna face the Senators in the playoffs, he cuts across the middle, and..

Kidding, we aren’t making playoffs.

Unless JBD becomes a core Dman overnight OTT wins this...Norris is made of glass Cozens will explode at some point...

Playing with Brady might give him some confidence back.
That’s my thoughts as well. Buffalo, well, not the fans anyways, but the owner and GM seem to think throwing a roster on the ice with 75% of it is under 24/25 yrs old with little to no vet team mates to patrol the opponents for liberties taken is a good idea. They’ve been proven wrong obviously, but they keep doing it over and over again.
Hope Cozens does regain his mojo, good luck to him, sincerely.

Sam Reinhart became an overnight stud power forward after the trade to Florida after struggling for years in Buffalo. Maybe the same thing happens with Cozens.

Good luck with that! LOL
I just know players who leave Buffalo seem to turn it around and produce big time after departing.

Linus Ullmark
Sam Reinhart
Jack Eichel
Brandon Montour
Ryan O’Reilly

Then to a lesser degree, Rasmus Ristolainen.

You’re probably right though, it’s probably a little far fetched but an interesting trend for some former highly touted players nonetheless.

Cozens is a former highly touted player after all…..

Casey Middlestad....

I'm not sure if Norris could survive a first playoff round with how physical it will be.

Great guy, but he makes bad decisions on the ice 5-5 which lead to goals against or injuries.

He decided to change on a backcheck in our last must win game, that we had just tied up, leaving it as a 4 on 2 against for our D, and a goal against.

His last multi-week injury was from him trying to go 1v4 late in a game we were winning 6-0, rather than just dumping it in and changing.
