I'm not mad at him for it, but I am also not mad at the Dodgers for going the 6th year to get closer.

Yeah, it's not hard to see why they didn't sign him. He'll be what , 38 in the final year making 30 mil plus? That's a 1/3 of what the Dbacks current payroll is.

Finally a contract that's too absurd even for the Dodgers. At least it's only the Dbacks. This would have hurt like hell if it was the Giants.

Ok, now we can move on, whether it's Cueto or something else.

Yeah, pretty much. I'm thinking there will be another bidding war for Cueto as well. And again, probably from the dodgers and the giants, as well as other contenders. It'll be interesting if the dbacks signed Cueto. That would instantly make the dbacks a contender imo.

They say they are pursuing another starter, but likely someone cheaper, ASU alum Mike Leake perhaps.

I'm thinking losing Mark McGwire as the dodgers hitting coach is the beginning of better things to come. Never quite understood how a guy who was basically a HR/SO hitter, who batted .250 (just an educated guess), became a hitting coach.

So the Dodgers are apparently interested in the Japanese pitcher, Hisashi Iwakuma. He has a good WHIP, but his ERA seems rather meh...

I don't know, he doesn't scream #1A or #2 SP to me, and that's what the Dodgers really need to replace Greinke.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports is hearing from sources that the Dodgers are making a push for free agent starter Hisashi Iwakuma. He adds that the Dodgers have particular interest in Iwakuma because he would not require as long of a contract due to his age (34).

The Dodgers have thus far come up empty in free agency, as David Price, Zack Greinke, Jordan Zimmermann, John Lackey, and Jeff Samardzija — among others — are all off the board.
Iwakuma turned down the Mariners’ $15.8 million qualifying offer, so the Dodgers would forfeit a draft pick in 2016 to sign the right-hander. Iwakuma made only 20 starts this past season as he dealt with a strained lat muscle. He compiled a 3.54 ERA with a 1.064 WHIP and a 111/21 K/BB ratio over 129 2/3 innings.

Edit: this is more likely, or at least, I'm hoping.

There is also Kenta Maeda from Japan, expected to be posted next week. That would mean a 30-day window for all teams to negotiate with the right-hander, with the winning bid also paying a likely $20 million posting fee to the Hiroshima Carp.

Maeda, who turns 28 in April, was 15-8 with a 2.09 ERA in 29 starts in 2015 in the Japanese Central League, with 175 strikeouts and 41 walks in 206⅓ innings, winning the Sawamura Award as the league's top pitcher for a second time, having also won in 2015.

He has a 2.16 ERA over his last six seasons, averaging 201 innings and 178 strikeouts per year with Hiroshima.

Maeda in the last year added a changeup to his repertoire, which Ben Badler of Baseball America notes is a pitch that could make Maeda "more comfortably profile as a No. 3 starter" immediately.

As I expected Stanford is just going to run the ball down USC's throat and control time of possession.

North Carolina trying to upset Clemson's apple cart, which could lead to Stanford having a chance to get in the playoff.

Equally as likely that UNC gets in should they beat Clemson

Oh yeah, I imagine Michigan State needs to win as well, which would throw the entire thing into chaos.

The only team that might be in for sure at this point is Alabama. Obviously Iowa is in if they win.

So it's Alabama, Clemson, Michigan State, and Oklahoma in the college football playoff, with Alabama looking like the obvious favorite to me.

Wow McCaffrey!! Broke Barry Sanders single-season, all-purpose yards record. Had Stanford not played such a listless opener at Northwestern, they would have been in the playoff.

Still think that the Pac-12 was one very good team (Stanford), followed by a real good team (Oregon), and the rest just above average teams any one of which could take out the other in any given game. Except for Oregon State and Colorado, they suck.

Nice call by the line judge in that game, sparing us all a possible exciting finish to the ACC title game.

Jesus H. Christ. Make it reviewable, NCAA. Idiots.

Yes, incredibly bad officiating. The guy was obviously looking for UNC being offside as a possibility on the on-side kick, then he thought he saw something that never happened. The NCAA should make that play reviewable since it is not a dead ball foul and the play continues.

Some great bowl game matchups that are non-playoff games:

Notre Dame vs Ohio State

Stanford vs Iowa

Ole Miss vs Oklahoma State

TCU vs Oregon
