Russ was not good but had a shoulder injury + had to go in the tent late in the game. He needs to be better but I think that he will be.

The coach, I have ZERO faith in. An offense that looks worse than what Scangarello, Shurmur or McCoy could come up with while working with bad QBs like Siemian, Lock and Flacco is completely mind-boggling.

He's a moron.

I'd rather watch a close game like this than a blowout. At least the game is on the line till the very last play. The game is full of LOL though.

Watching Hackett’s press conference after the game was agonizing. He was throwin out how they’ll get things ironed out and that Russ is working with new coaches, new receivers, etc etc.

All I can think of in my mind is - “dude, those are things that you work on in the preseason, and they are reasons #1, #2, and #3 of why you should have played some starters in the preseason games”. They ironed out nothing in the preseason - communication and situational football has been piss poor. Russ was still using the same damn hand signals to his WRs that he did in Seattle (in week one AGAINST Seattle).

It’s ugly.

Living in Pacific Northwest seen a boatload of the Seahawks and Russ over the past decade. I’ve never seen him this off in that decade.

They guys has like no rapport with his guys. He had a great connection with Baldwin, Lockett and even a young and raw Metcalf.

Not seeing anything close to that with Sutton, Jeudy, Hamler.

I didn’t expect the 20 something year old Russ who was dangerous because of his legs. But now he’s not moving the pocket. Like he has this desire to prove to everyone that he can consistently win from the pocket like Brady and Manning. That’s not his game. He needs to roll out more.

Can’t recall Russ throwing a desperation pick like his first one into the end zone. He almost never put it up for grabs.

The second pick he was late and behind his WR. That happens but in that situation he needed to protect the FG attempt. Reminds me of the game late last year vs Chicago where he held onto the ball trying to make a play and took a 10 yard plus sack. Meyers ended up missing the FG from over 40 yards. He was having a bad season so Russ knew to not take the sack but did anyways.

As for the last play. Play gets drawn up. Whether by design that is supposed to go to his left he needs to read the coverage. Gilmore is on Sutton so pre snap find the mismatch. Ends up kind of side arming it throw a crease in the pocket and Gilmore makes a great play on it. If you are going to cook have to win pre snap. He didn’t .

Letting Russ cook so far has meant the Bronocs are going hungry for TDs. 5 offensive TDs in 5 games.
I wasn't expecting 20s Russ but what he has shown through 5 games is worse than what Lock was giving us and he was kid with 15 games started and we ran his ass out of town for being shitty.

I figured we'd be at least able to move the ball, score some points, and have watchable football again. But somehow it's gotten worse since Vic Fangio/Schumer and even less watchable. I wasn't diluted like some Broncos fans , I figured 9-8 or so. But not even sure we get 6 wins at this rate.

As you mentioned there is no continuity between Russ and the WRs not even close. Missing Tim Patrick is very big, but teams have injuries you have to be able to throw to anyone on the team. Sutton, Jeudy and Hamler should be plenty of options.

No way to tell on the last play what the read was, but it sure looked like the 1st read was/should have been right. Pre snap safety starts drifting left so both were on that side of the field. It was basically a quick slant rub play with 1v1 coverage that was run to perfection by Hamler and I think Cleveland. Hell even the LB on the right took 2-3 steps to left first opening the field even more. Even the coach made some comment about guys being open on the last play, which leads me to believe Russ just blew the read.

If it wasn't read 1 out of the huddle, which I find hard to believe, based on the play design on right side vs the design on the left, then what and how the defense aligned and moved pre snap should have changed it to read 1. Any vet should have been able to notice 1v1 all on the right as opposed to double and triple on the left.

I don't watch much college football.
First, you're missing out... far better version of the sport. Flaws and different schemes make things more fun!

Second, Iowa is must watch football.

I've been joking here, but I never would have thought months ago that Carroll and his staff might have been propping up Wilson. Don't get me wrong, Wilson, especially 5 years ago was extremely talented. But it seems clear now that the Seattle staff was getting absolutely everything out of him (just like they are with Geno today). Wilson will have to turn things around because there is really no way out in the near future for Denver. What a mess.

I love how last night ESPN promoted an article on their website about a broncos executive who is taking credit for targeting Russell Wilson and the hiring of Hackett

Quote from the article

"We just flipped an entire franchise upside down in the pet 8 months”

Couldn’t have picked a worse time to release that article

I've avoided college ball for several years now, due to the prevalence of awful quarterback play.

Now, the NFL on the other hand.......

Oh, wait.

The last 2 bad throws are solely on Russ. Protect the FG attempt so the guy needs to be open or you throw it over his head. Go up by 6.

As for the last one. You are depending on a 10 year veteran starter to read the coverage of your former DC, that’s the scheme you have seen in practice for like a decade from Bradley, Quinn, Richard, to Norton. Have to win pre snap and go to where you have the edge. Got locked into who they play was designed for vs taking what the D gave him.

Even if the play was designed to go to Sutton, which I don't really believe based on the play design on the right side, within 1 second of coming to the line Russ should have known that the ball needed to go to the right. It was completely unexcusable for Russ to miss that.

It's interesting to look back on that relationship. Russ was always bitching about Pete not letting him pocket pass and focusing instead on handing off the ball to set up play action. Then Russ comes to Denver and Hackett apparently is letting Russ do what he's always wanted......Russ tries to pocket pass and it's been a complete mess......

Bolles is now out for the year it sounds like......So whatever Russ wanted, it's out the window now.....He'll be running for his life for the rest of the year, which is probably a good thing.

Yep. Your $250 million future Hall of Fame quarterback just has to make that read. I still can't believe he didn't.

It will be interesting to see what the new ownership does. Cant imagine they are happy right now. GM, and coach were not their hires. That said I doubt anythign will happen during the season but the off season will be interesting.

The roster has huge holes now too at RB, WR, Tackle( which has been ignored for years), TE, ILB(ignored for years) and no draft capital

It was like the Bowlen's were pissed they had to sell so they said........

"Give us $5 billion and we'll screw your organization for years with this contract weeks before we give you the keys.

but im with you on the their thoughts right now? They have to be pissed, and probably feel stuck.

I looked at the people I was watching with and said if the play doesn't go to the right we're screwed. How Russ didn't see man coverage on the right and some kind of clogged zone on left is mind blowing. Indy basically gave us the game by blowing their coverage and Russ failed to recognize it.

The only explanations are either Russ thought it was zone everywhere, which for vet qb like him would be inexcusable or he was only going to throw to Sutton no matter what. Either explanation is dog shit for Russ.

I hope we see Broncos fans with paper bags on their heads next game to really drive the point home next game. Russ f***ing sucks, but who lines up in shotgun with less than a yard to gain? That's an easy first down if you get in the I and run anyone one of the 3 fallowing plays; Up the middle to the RB, Up the middle to the FB, QB sneak. The fact that we won't even try to play power football in short yardage this year kills me. 5 weeks in and it's just one inexcusable mistake after another.

I don't even want to salvage this season, I just wanna win some games out of spite, so we don't set Seattle up as a powerhouse for years to come.

Fire Hackett now, and hire ANY other coach, that has been a HC before. Dmac wants to go back to Kubiak, and I'm all for it. At least he can make logically sound plays in a current on field situation. His book might be a little old and predictable, but it'll be 100% better than watching what ever the f*** Hackett is running.

Not sure Kubiak would even humor the thought of coming out of retirement for this dumpster fire, especially mid-season

You can’t be designing plays for Russ in the RZ to attack the middle of the field. Condensed space and he’s a 5’11 qb. He had to find a crease to side arm it there. So the play probably was designed a bit differently but Gilmore to his create disrupted the timing of it and Sutton cut inside. Rather than quickly come off Sutton wilson forced it into him.

Russ isn’t adjusting to this new scheme. 7 on 7 drills is one thing but for a shorter QB figuring out how to get it past 6’5 linemen is another.

In Seattle he only attacked the middle of the field on quick throws or kind of broken plays where he finds a crease and his vision of the field opens up and he sees his guy open.
