f*** Russell Wilson and George Paton. The damage these 2 have caused will take 15 years to undo and quite frankly it might not ever get back to championship level.

This franchise is f***ed, and it's going to be a long time before we see any success.
OK, the first part of this is pure hyperbole. 15 years?!? Come on.

In the NFL, successful rebuilds can happen in 3-5 years, given the right QB is in place. Let's call it 5, since Denver is in such a bind right now. If they get the QB in one of the next two drafts, they can be a solid team in 3 years. Contending playoff team? A lot would have to go right in a 5 year window, but that's the same for any team.

The last sentence of your post is probably correct, unfortunately. It's likely going to be a couple of very ugly seasons coming up here. But the Broncos really do need 2-3 years of drafting very high. They need to embrace the rebuild.

Of course you're allowed your opinion, Chet. But it does seem a bit harsh.

Sometimes good players end up on bad teams. They play well, but the team isn't good. I mean, was Barry Sanders a chump because his team stunk for most of his career?

There are so many examples of this. The best hockey example I can think of offhand, is Marcel Dionne. He was one great offensive player on some damn bad hockey teams.
It is probably harsh but just really didn't care for any of the core Broncos players of the just 5 years. It wasn't their play necessarily, more their attitudes.

Simmons was the most talented, though not anywhere close to the level of the guys you mentioned Sanders and Dionne.

They could all easily prove me wrong.

It really all about getting the QB right. If they miss again this year or next (whenever they draft one) it will set them back another 3-4 years until they draft the next one

If they get it right they can do a youth movement this season and next and be out of cap hell the following year

This team doesn't look like some 3-4 win rebuild. Not contenders but they didn't exactly ship off a lot here and not having RW at the helm isn't exactly reducing the outlook. Where does this horrible team for years outlook come from? This isn't a teardown rebuild, trading Jerry as he starts getting a decent paycheck isn't exactly giving up on the year.

Hate that they took out Simmons because that will hurt the D a bit but feels like the way the contract was structured this move was always considered likely.

Lol I guess I missed that today was the start of free agency in the NFL!

Broncos signed S - Brandon Jones to a 3-year contract
Cushenberry signs with Tennessee

I would tank this year and get Sheduer.

Clear as much cap as you can, get the best non-QB player you can at #12, and then roll with Stidham.

Next season, you can start building it back up.

I'd still love for them to get rid of Bolles but it's probably not happening.
Can't get rid of a LT unless you got a replacement ready to go. They have no real depth on the OL so Bolles isn't going anywhere and they locked themselves longer into mediocre McGlinchey out of all this.

I still can't get over how big of a disappointment McFlinchey was last year. At least they were able to restructure his contract this year.

For me, the pessimism has any number of origins. I'll list a few:

- The team possesses very little high end talent at any position, particularly young talent. Outside of a very few players, they are average or worse at almost every position.
- The team won't be able to markedly improve itself via free agency for two years, while other teams will.
- The team only has two draft picks in the top 100 this year, so won't be able to improve itself as much as other teams will.
- The team is in a conference that is pretty loaded with good young QBs, so they're likely going to be outplayed pretty regularly at the most important position on the field.

(and I swear I'm not making this up)

- The team is looking at either Sam Darnold and Zach Wilson to play QB this upcoming season.

It's not likely going to be pretty.

Edit: Sam Darnold just signed with Minnesota.

Josey Jewell is a below average NFL linebacker. Addition by subtraction, most overrated Bronco since Jay Cutler.
Yep.

And you could say that about many of Denver's 2023 starters - the majority of their OL, the majority of their DL, their TEs, pass rushers, WRs. It's a roster with very little elite talent.
