I kinda want to go that direction and build an elite defense again. We've tried so long to get a franchise QB and it's only blown up in our faces and made us a laughing stock. An elite defense can win you the SuperBowl. We've done it before at SB 50, and Baltimore and Tampa have done it as well.

An elite D works when the offense is competent. We have seen great defenses get crushed by the ineptness of their offense since they are either 3 and out or they provide the other team with turnovers.

I mean its not a strategy thats consistently effective. Even then we did it with arguably the smartest QB of all time. Thats not to say that we shouldn't focus on the defense, but an elite defense doesn't really guarantee much. Offense in the end drives the bus in the NFL by some margin.

If you want to build a contender via defense, it has to literally be an absurd defense that not only allows sub-17 points per game but also routinely generates 1-2 turnovers per game AND is a consistent QB pressuring defense without needing to consistently blitz.

Basically, the perfect defense which only comes around every few years in this league.

The Broncos SB winning defense had two absurd edge rushers and absurd defensive backs who could cover man-to-man allowing our guys up front to go to work.

IMO it is easier to build a good enough offense to win than it is an elite defense.

Read The Athletic article about the Panthers meltdown season that finally culminated in the owner throwing a drink at the crowd the other day.

The Broncos effed up horribly hitching their wagon to Russell Wilson, and they'll be paying for that for years to come...quite literally. But man, ultimately giving up an extra first overall pick for a 5'10" quarterback!? I don't care how good he was in college, you don't trade THAT much just to get Doug Flutie.
He’s definitely a moron. They absolutely hate the guy down here. He’s the butt end of every joke and I think they just started a petition to have the NFL kick him out as the owner.

From the previous guy being ousted in part due to ALLEGEDLY asking to give women foot massages and shave their legs to this one meddling in every which way and throwing drinks at fans. What a run for the Panthers. They're a complete mess.

I'm personally shocked that a billionaire might not be a good person. :sarcasm:

Yeah, basically the best you can hope for is that they front the money to properly build the team, put the right people in charge, stay the hell out of the way, and hope whatever shady shit they might be up to, it stays behind closed doors.

Yup... they just need to do their best to stay out of the spotlight. I honestly feel Stan does a pretty good job of that here... those that have dealt with him speak of how ruthless of a businessman he is and how tough he can be to work for. But really his biggest controversy is running the Rams (and Arsenal) like a business and making a ruthless business decision. If that's the worst we get here, that's about as ideal as you can imagine.

Yeah...I didn't care much for his desire to create a Big Game hunting channel on cable that would've featured him gunning down endangered species, but really that is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down the list of horrible things rich elitists of the world have done or are doing. Not about to complain about him, especially since he appears to be content letting Josh run things in Colorado, and he's actually pretty competent.

Jeff Vinik is probably the most ideal owner in all of sports. I don't even know what that dude even looks like.

Tried that taking Chubb over Allen.

In totally unrelated news, I did not think anyone out there could prove themselves to be a worse person than Brett Favre but Aaron Rodgers has somehow accomplished that.

And f*** Pat McAfee for giving that shitstain a weekly platform, the coward was on air (note carefully how he wasn't wearing his usual black romper) backpedaling as fast as a drunken clown on a unicycle because he doesn't want to get sued.

Brother, with that defense I would have trusted you at QB

I get what you are saying, and granted Peyton couldn’t throw the ball 10 yards accurately if at all, but you are underrating his leadership skills a little bit. The dude was a walking talking head coach, OC, inspirational and motivational leader all rolled up into one.

It was one hell of a defense, though

It's so obvious, the effect he had on the team, compared to what it was immediately before and ever since he was there. I was hoping Wilson would produce a little bit of the same effect, but yeesh. Hackett was no help, either.

I’ve never watched McAfee because all his pics in his black tank just remind me of Doug from 50 First Dates.

I can't be the only one, but it seems like all 3 parties in this are really pieces of shit.

I have a good friend who played college football and one of his coaches played with Favre in Green Bay. Some of the stories he has of Favre are insane.

Well shit you gotta share at least one of them.

I'm not surprised though. Some of the things I've heard about star NFL players makes my blood curdle. But really, any area where you have rich young people who don't ever suffer consequences, some really debauched shit is gonna go down behind closed doors.

I'm no fan of Kimmel but there's no evidence whatsoever he's a pedo, there's actually a pretty strong case for slander here, even with the very high standards of proof (actual malice) that must be met. McAfee only strengthened the case by saying it was just shit-talk. Something tells me Rodgers is just gonna backtrack like crazy and then just keep peddling the same ignorant bullshit he's been allowed to spew for years now.
