The issue is the contract wayyy more than his play. Just need to get that contract out ASAP.
Its not the only one but QB contracts have gotten out of control because so many fans and pundits believe QBs are worthy of all this. Yeah they play the most important position and of course your chances to win a title go up tremendously with the right one but all we see now is topper when it comes to contracts. This QB signed this deal, next one to sign a deal has to get more of everything. Its inflation run wild. As much as he's not an elite QB and you don't want to pay him 40 or so million a year, in two seasons' time that's just going to be like the 15th highest paid QB in the league.

The problem is that even if you have cap space and a willingness to pay for a QB, good luck getting a good one. Sure you can try to draft and develop one but there are as many busts and mediocre first rounders out there as guys people have faith in. Teams will keep trying to do it in hopes that they get the next Mahomes and not the next Trubisky, Darnold, or Lance.

Russ had a ntc leaving Seattle. Would expect that one of the conditions of him waiving it to go to Denver was a new contract.

Based on the structure of the contract the goal was for it to ultimately be a 4 year deal that paid him $161 mill this $40.25 mill per from 22-25 season.

Your hatred for Wilson is odd. He was a perfectly good QB this year. They aren’t going to have a better one anytime soon.
Oh no he was most assuredly not “perfectly” good. He was mediocre to bad most of the year but buoyed by a defense that hit an absolute heater in the middle of the season.

Not saying the QB next year will be better, or even as good, but this had to happen. I don’t like the way the Broncos went about doing it, but it was the right decision.

Defending Wilson is the same thing as defending Nurse. Is he totally dogshit? No, he's servicable, but at that pricetag he better be a motherf***in golden god. Contracts matter.

Wilson should be hated in Denver the guy plain sucked for us. 11 wins in 30 starts for 250M. Stidham, or even Lock could do that for 1/10th the price.

I don't give a shit about his TD-INT ratio his QBR is one of the lowest for starters in the league and averages like 200 yards a game which borderline pathetic.

That's basically what Tebow did his one year, he won some games too doesn't mean he was playing the position well.

People need to get over the fact that at one point Russ was good. It's been a long time since that was true. There was a reason Seattle was so willing to move him.

No he wasn't all that good this season. The defense carried this team to wins. All the takeaways and they were still barely scraping by because Russ couldn't lead this offense to more points.
All you have to look at is that Buffalo game. +5 in the turnover margin, multiple short fields, and despite all that the Russ led offense needed a last second FG and a 2nd try at that FG to eek out a close win.

That should have been a 14pts laugher win with any competent QB play.

Russ is not an NFL QB at this point. It's very obvious that he isn't putting in the time anymore to be prepared that is necessary at the NFL level. Your have to treat it like a job 40+ hours a week and he's not doing so. Result would be much better if he was.

The alarming amount simple missed reads is mind numbing. It's ok to miss reads here and there. It shouldn't be happening 10 times a game. Not to mention his absolute lack of pocket awareness. Dude wouldn't know how to read a blitz if it hit him in the face. Defense don't even need to disguise it with him, he just misreads it.

He is clearly still NFL caliber, he's just not all that good anymore.

There is a serious lack of good NFL QBs in 2023.

Mahomes, Allen, Prescott, Rodgers, Jackson, Hurts, Herbert, Stroud, Burrow. Perhaps guys like Lawrence, Tua, Stafford, and Goff, too. Baker has been ok.

But I couldn't even get to 16. More than half the league has bad QBs. It doesn't help that defenders get better and better each year. EDGE rushers and OLBs get scary fast AND strong while offensive lineman are diamonds in the rough to find good ones.

Add that up and you have the current NFL landscape.

I have no doubt Wilson could go to a different team and have a 30:15 TD:INT ratio next season but I still wouldn't trust him to win me a meaningful game.

I don't think he'll get another NFL look. He has too much baggage, kind of like Newton, it's not worth the headache.

I mean you say that as if Cam didn't get opportunities with both the Patriots and the Panthers again after his first stint in Carolina came to an end.

Wilson has thrown 26 TDs this season. That is tied with Mahomes and Tua.

Some GM will sign him to a contract paying him around 10M per. There are WAY too many trash QBs in the league for Wilson to not get a job.

Russ gets $39 mill for 2024. Will just be paid by a combination from the new team and Denver. Heck he could even stick it to the Broncos, by taking something close to the $1.2 mill vet minimum, leaving Denver on the hook for $37.8 mill

I’m really curious to see what the Browns do with Flacco. Dude has been playing lights out for them and they’ve got the only qb in the league with a worse deal than Russ. I dont want either QB for the Broncos - but that’s a situation even more popcorn-worthy than the one we’ve got.

Browns situation is that they have paid Watson $90 mill and taken just a total of $30 mill in cap charges over 2 seasons. They could trade him to one of the teams he was originally in talks t
With like Atl. But they’d still be eating that $60 mill in bonuses that they structured for Watson. Plus maybe they’d also have to retain some of the remaining cash due to Watson.

Atl for example would the. Be on the hook for the 3 years of base salary for Watson.

I don’t think the Broncos did anything wrong with the ultimatum. And I don’t doubt for a minute that those types of conversations happen frequently around the league. Wilson’s not innocent in this either by leaking it and playing the “poor me” role. You don’t leak conversations like that (throwing the organization under the bus) and then say “oh but I’m really hopeful I can stay with the organization for the rest of my career”. That’s pure BS and 100% PR to try and put yourself on the high road. One thing you never heard in any of his statement was any crumb of accountability, “I need to play better”, or ounce of willingness to restructure into a deal that matches his average play.

Russ is a phony. And all the sports personalities, and podcasters that are jumping on the owners are hypocrites.

If you were on the shit end of the absolute worst trade in the history of the NFL, and there was a way to mitigate some of the damage, even slightly, you would do it.

If you get a high paying job and then proceed to do an awful job you get fired. This is Russ getting fired. I don’t get the whole coming after the Broncos FO for this whole thing. Russ has been okay this year after being an absolute disaster last year and is clearly not the solution here. Nothing wrong with moving on and finding your solution.

Going to the Mammoth game tonight, got free tickets to the Broncos game tomorrow. At least one win would be nice. Mammoth got two ass whoopings from Georgia to start the year. Vancouver Warriors in town.

NCAA would probably penalize them into oblivion. They'd probably get their scholarships number decreased.
Over two dozen FSU players sat the game out, including most of their starters. Made a mockery of one of the most important NCAA games of the year.

I absolutely love it.

Good for them. Winning all of their games didn’t make a statement. They made the only statement they could.

That statement probably only further justified the committee's decision to select Alabama.

In their minds, beating Georgia for the SEC title, the 2 X defending National Champions, that hadn't lost a game in 2 years, is more impressive than going 13-0 in the ACC. And after today, that's most likely the story they will be sticking with.

If I was FSU coach, I would've tried to convince the guys to play, and show everyone that the committee made a mistake, and that they did belong there.
